Look who it is, It is Helen Shapiro and as beautiful as she was at 13 years old! Love the voice and talent all these years! I still play her early tunes when she was the teenager from across the pond! She is still the one I play, forget the Beatles in the early 60's!
And I still Play Helen Shapiro Songs before the Beatles here in 2023! Helen is still my lovely voice back in the day! However, my big brother Loved Annette, My big Brother played all of Annette's records on our 45 \RCA Victrola! I was younger, and I heard that wonderful voice of Helen!!!! She has been my love all these years! So much joy Helen and that voice has given all of us in the 60's, and 70's, and on!
She was number one in the UK in 1963. I can understand that you may not have heard about her if you are from the US. The Beatles were doing her show and were opening for her; she was that big. She was topping our 40's radio stations here in Canada before the Beatles who came onto our music scene in the summer of 1963. The US market was way behind the Commonwealth ones ie Austtrailia, New Zealand etc...
I’ve made a comment here before, but the more I think of it I really think the USA music people missed out. I’m in the USA, and she was popular in the 1960s and connected to the Beatles, and that did not bring her over here. Then, in 1989 she re-recorded The early 1960s stuff. That music, like this song, should have been introduced to USA audiences in the late 1980s, and then the earlier versions should also have been played. She was Only in her early 40s at the time. USA, you missed out on her twice! I’m just glad RU-vid exists so we can hear her.
Her original version of this was excellent back in the 1960s. But, if this is her version from 1989, she should have released it here in the USA then. I have a feeling it might have done very well
She never found out till the 90's that her manager had turned the song down ,but she had stopped singing 'pop' by them... BTW Kenny Lynch recorded Misery, it wasn't a hit
