In this video I talk about how my Spool Performance Helix overdrive kit has been holding up. I have about 4000 miles on the kit so far.
I have this installed on my 2008 BMW 335i with the N54 motor. I have their 4x kit.
I also show you the new billet aluminum vacuum plate and the new support bracket. I install these parts to fix an issue as well.

The reason the car gets a clatter at startup is because the car runs off a different rail pressure target table under 40*c. The cold start rail pressure tables target over 2000psi at idle which causes the noise. Have ken update the tune to have the car change to the warm up tables much earlier or have him lower the rail pressure target on the cold start tables.

David Trebelia has almost tuned my rattle away completely. We are still working on revisions but mine lasts for about 2 seconds after startup now. Still tune in progress.

We need another update to see if the parts actually work. Yes i would assume so since there isnt an update but a video to confirm would greatly help the community. We also need to get other people willing to look at the gear that drives the units to see if wear is showing like the 4 cylinder issue

The cold start chatter can be fixed with tuning. It’s the result of the car targeting a temperature based pressure control mode map.

What I did with mine to help with the chatter was went into the mhd and i upped the rpm for warmup to like 900 if I go up a 100-200 it should stop chattering on start up or helps a lot

Brother tomorow (Monday) we are going to the dyno and make some real numbers on helix 4x and dynamic autowerx stage 2 turbos. We have all the fuel we need. Running full e85 and 50/50 methanol on 26 psi and we will test them on 28 or 29 psi. Just see what they will make. I'll send the numbers to Rolleymotorsports your friend and he will send it to you

Hey good luck! Sounds like you'll make 575 whp +. I just had a new tune sent over where we turned things up, also Rod Sutphin reached out. Did you recommend he contacts me? You were taking about it I a previous comment. So I'm going to load his trans tune, I got my tuner to add in the tables he recommended to my ecu tune. Looking forward to seeing what these turbos can really do. They were asleep with regards to the wastegate duty cycle running 24 PSI.

Hopefully the car makes good number!, its dyno jet. Tomorow will let you know what it will do!! Yea even at 26 psi it didnt even had more then 65 wdgc on the logs

Who’s your tuner? I emailed spool performance and was told that the chatter/grinding is on the tune side and needs to be adjusted by the tuner.

I'm using Wedge Tuning. I haven't asked but that makes sense. Even just disabling the code start would pretty much get rid of it. Thanks for the info.

How long does it take to install this overdrive pump approximately?

After your experience with the Helix Overdrive, would you go with Port Injection and a standalone ECU? Of course, I don't want to spend a ton of money on something that can do the same thing for cheaper, but now with the reliability updates of the Helix Overdrive, it looks like a good option. You mentioned on someone's comment that you should replace the oil pump chain tensioner before doing the Overdrive kit. Is there anything else you should replace? And also did you have any reliability issues with the OEM HPFP? I'm just worried about more strain on other parts. My power goals are to make 600whp with 19t turbos on full E85. Later on, I want to make 700whp on E85 with a single turbo when the 19t's blow up.

tuned M4 bro? Comp is 450 according to BMW. Not hard to achieve with n54 with ethanol. Weight is very similar

Late reply but with full e85 you should be able to squeeze 650 with the overdrive kit and into 750 with e60 mix

Great video good Sir as usual. I have a quick question I have the weirdest timing corrections when I'm shifting from 3rd to 4th and it seems like my trans is slipping. It like revs out and is a delayed shift. All maintance 1 step colder plugs mhd e30. In the winter when its 15° out

@@VehicularDIY I do not have that sensor at this time. But I can confirm for sure I am running e30 plus without doubt maybe even closer to e40* just to be safe. I am using Sunoco E85R jugs mixed with a gallon of sunoco 100 unleaded and the rest of course Shell 93. I just dont want to embarrass myself the next time a sti pulls up on the highway..

The LSD retrofit hasn't degraded as far as I can tell. It still helps keep the car straight under heavy throttle. Compared to the OEM LSD in my M340i I'd say it's about half as effective.

Hello, unrelated to this video, but are you currently using the curved CNC adapter on your front turbo snout to connect it to the your outlet? I saw your VRSF outlet install video awhile back before you upgraded your turbos. Basically I’m having troubles with my front turbo outlet gap and am looking for a solution. I ordered some VRSF outlets from ECS Tuning but the fitment isn’t even close, so I’m going to resort back to the MMP silicon outlets and try to get a proper gap

After having installed the helix with bracket and support, have you got any oil leaks from the vacuum pump area? Have you checked your engine bay? I got the helix kit because I seen your video, and went ahead and replace all gaskets for vacuum pump too, but I now see a slight leak from hpfp area.

Mine is starting to do the same, at first I thought it was a gas leak. The more I've been reading it seems some do leak. Helix paperweight coming soon. To risky to keep this thing installed.

Is the billet vacuum pump plate necessary with the support bracket? Seems like the bracket alone would be enough. The videos are awesome, BTW. I was content with my stock turbo FBO tune up to 20psi midrange, but after watching some of your videos and some Infinity Q50/Q60 videos I am trying to talk myself out of upgrading my turbos. I also have a truck I want to build so I need to make choices.

I'm a bit lost here , if this kit is for the hpfp then why is it called an overdrive kit ? That sounds like something for the transmission , does this fix cure the unreliability the hpfp has ?

You retain your stock HPFP but this spins it faster to deliver more fuel. You would want to ensure you have a healthy HPFP. The HPFP reliability issues have mostly been sorted as the newest iterations of the pump aren't prone to failure.

I think most people will be upping their ethanol content when they install this mod so you should expect a decrease in MPG due to E85 naturally delivering less MPG.

@@VehicularDIY I will just ask you here. I have a 2007 335i I have the BMS DCI, Arm Motorsports fmic and MHD stage 1+ tune on it. I keep getting error code 30fe and 3100 for over boost. I have replaced my boost selonoids and still get these codes when I get around 5k rpm. Do you have any idea what could be causing this problem? Thanks for any info you can provide.

You could download MHD Flasher and get a K+D Can cable to get manufacturer specific codes. Does your car start at all or does it just crank?

I took everything apart last night to prepare for whatever I’ll have to do. Intakes are filthy so I’ll do that CRC chemical clean that you did. I’m just wondering if there is a definite way to single out the HPFP or the different sensors before I spend 700$ on a pump.

So that’s not an original HPFP? You have 80k miles on it, what hpfp did you put on the car? I may need to swap mine soon I’m at 144k

I'm assuming it's not original given all the recalls when these cars came out. I know that it has at least 80K miles on it. That is as long as I and the 2nd owner had the car. It could have way more.

Vehicular DIY thanks. Was trying to determine if mine needed replacement or not. I also put 80k miles on mine since first owner. Idle is dropping 100 rpm every 15 seconds or so, a shutter- thought pump could be going. I’ve already replaced everything else I can think of to replace. Thx

Yeah they were very selective on who they allowed to try out their prototypes. The updated parts didn't cost the early adapters anything besides some time to retrofit them.

how much is a solid, non-batch firing port injection kit? a lot more considering you need a stand alone to do it firing sequentially and not batch firing aka dangerous af if anything goes wrong.

@@von... one of the advantages of the port injection is your valves and ports stay clean. Idk about the standalone management reliability but jb4 says their stuff won't fail.
