I just want to know how these people in the audience can just stand there, with James Fn Brown and his group working their asses off. I wouldn’t take that mess
Since 1971 I saw James Brown about 100 times in concert he’s my all-time favorite singer. And when I would go to his concert my eyes would be on the stage the whole time I didn’t go there to move around too much and dance and miss any of the action.
Because for those Midnight Special tapings, they were there for HOURS and saw a lot more music than the 90 minutes we saw on TV. I know this episode also featured the O’Jays. They surely could throw down, too. As you can see, it was also standing room only, or you sat on the floor. By the time James played these two songs (he did his whole set, by the way), I’m sure the audience was FRIED!!
Also, I hate to admit it, but I think that crowd was there to see The O'Jays more than JB. James Brown's stage for his set was on one end of the room, and The O'Jays' stage was on the opposite end, technically the front of the house. JB was basically playing to the back of the room for The O'Jays' crowd, possibly.
Not only is that been huge, but it is super funky with brass, percussion, instrumental, drums, vocals chimes, bongos, Oregon, piano, backup singers dancers
Yall hittin' them archives!! I thought I've seen all of the JB footage!! First the Johnny Carson appearance..now this!! I kinda figured there was a whole episode🔥💪 1:50 💪💪💪💪💪
Sure would be nice to binge watch these shows like the other streaming shows.Releasing these shows in real time is excruciatingly slow. Hope they change the release schedule sometime. 8 years is too long to wait around for these shows. On demand would be best.
Pure fire. Incredible tightness and power, JB expected perfection and pushed everyone hard. You can tell that in a regular concert, JB and his band would take these tracks far further. He's holding back here.
Did Mr. Brown just do a full hour by himself on this show?? So far I’ve seen from this episode: “Payback”, “My Thang”, “Papa/No Mess”, “Hell” “Cold Sweat/I can’t stand it/Papa’s Bag”. All that’s left is the ballads and u have a full concert.
James Brown innovated and so did those fellas on keyboards, it might not be my cup of tea but they're valid too. No need to drag other artists to bring JB up, he can do that all by himself.
The bass guitar played by Fred Thomas is the same one that Bootsy Collins played 4 years earlier. The bass belonged to James, not Bootsy. However, it was purchased at Bootsy's request because he did not have a professional instrument.
Hell was on those poor drummers, The Godfather was supposedly a tyrant on them for clams and not playing perfectly. But they brought that stanky FUNK we all love so much!!!! Been called a funky drummer myself, gives me goosebumps when I get that recognition...thank you JB!!
It sounds amazing, but the band is clearly going through the motions. They're all stone-faced and there isn't even a hint of passion. I have to wonder what was going on then to cause their morale to be so low.
@@kennethspencer4324 Those don't strike me as "in the zone" looks. Those look more like "joylessly fulfilling the terms of a professional contract" faces to me.
@@uncleboyd5023 The dancers and background vocalists seem to be enjoying themselves, and I'm assuming they rehearsed too. It's only the band who look all stone faced.
