It took four hours every day to put all the makeup & props on Ron Perlman. He did it without complaining for two whole movies and again years later for a kid in the "Make A Wish" Foundation. Talk about dedication.
Did you see the story and photos from when Ron went through all the hours in makeup to get dressed up as Hellboy to hang out with a Make-A-Wish kid? Ron's a great guy.
It was one of the requirements from both Del Toro and Mignola to do the film, that Ron Perlman should be cast as Hellboy. The film even got put into hiatus until they could get him because he was busy with other works before this.
@@666blackcarbon9 I liked the new film as a whole but i have to say that Ron Perlman was just SO perfect in the role is hard to see anyone else in it's shoes, isn't it?
The Hellboy II: the Golden Army was such a feast for the eyes. If you like this, you'll love that. Del Toro is such a wonderful world builder. His creations are always so beautifully rendered. Ron Pearlman is also excellent in both. It was a shame we never got the third installment. ☹️
Doug Jones is the actor in the Abe Sapien costume, and is the same actor in the Shape of Water fishman costume. (The voice of Abe is David Hyde Pierce, who played Niles Crane on Frasier). Jones is currently playing Saru on Star Trek Discovery.
38:26 Karl Rupert Krone is a very interesting character and a unique backstory. He was the son of Watchmaker and learned from his father the mechanics of how it works. He was also a talented opera singer from an early age but lost his angelic voice after hitting puberty. He also had phobia of germs and bacteria and also suffered from a severe personality trait of perfectionism. He then went into multiple surgeries and some self surgeries which later developed into masochism. He then wore his suit and mask to filter out bacteria and germs to keep his exposed tissue from infection. People outside the comics gave him the name “The Clockman”
I remember loving the originals when I was a little boy so much because Ron Pearlman made the the character so endearing and sympathetic without feeling campy or awkward. There was also the perfect balance of exposition enough to keep 8 year old me entertained.
I love and adore Guillermo del Toro's first Hellboy movie I'll never forget my dad showing me it, when I was a kid it was one of the most amazing movies I had ever seen as I was so invested in the characters, story and the mood of the movie it always takes me back such great memories
@Padre_diego_longoose oh, that's really cool it was one of those movie's for me as a kid that I just was just found so cool and interesting so glad it had the same effect on your kids also😎
Hellboy is good, but the 2nd one is better imo. Golden Army is amazing, this is one of the few series where i thought the 2nd was better then the first. Sad Del toro never did a 3rd one.
The '' I'm fireproof, your not! '' is so iconic and cool, love this line! Hellboy has an amazing design, his big arm is impressive and strong; his short horns are stylish. The make-up is fantastic 🤩
Definitely, but i still really enjoyed the new one. The hard R was great and so was David Harbour, but the studio meddling and bad editing did stand out. But i still have a lot of fun with that movie.
The thing about Hellboy when he is around with the reason the character works so well especially those two together is that she brings out a vulnerability in him. Around the agents he's you know the macho dude around his dad he's the rebellious teenager but around Liz he is the self-doubting lovestruck little boy that shows that he's actually very vulnerable and very emotional at his core
I love this movie. The entire cast is great, esp. Ron Perlman - he and Del Toro fought so hard to get this made with him as Hellboy - but it’s also the first time I remember seeing Doug Jones and he’s one of my fave actors now. I love him in all his weird roles. RIP John Hurt, too, brilliant actor. Funny how he hates Mimic - I love that movie.
Yo! I fucking love Hellboy, both of them. We ain’t gonna acknowledge 2019. But this movie I was obsessed with. I watch it 22 times over a three day weekend when it came out on dvd.
Yes, I definitely think you should watch the sequel for this. I just rewatched it recently and it's a lot of fun. Looking at the filmography Guillermo has also done Pacific Rim and a Pinocchio movie from a couple years back. From that list I've only seen Pacific Rim and that's a lot of fun, but I'd assume the Pinocchio movie is good too. Also, yes, with the new Blade movie likely coming in the next couple years, and the Wesley Snipes version possibly showing up in Secret Wars, Tara should watch the previous Blade movies.
@@eligra I have seen a good chunk of Pan's Labyrinth in Spanish class in school, but it was like 15 or so years ago so I don't remember most of it anyways.
27:30 The flames on her in the bed was a mix of CGI, and an overlaid real flame, The building If I remember right was a model the they blew-up. Del Toro did as much practical for this move as he could get away with. Like The hound of Resurrection, in most of the shots it is a guy in a suit, with just minor CGI to hide were you see the guy playing the creature (like his face and the seems of the suit).
Yes! I liked this movie and it's Sequel! I just wish Guillermo Del Toro and Ron Perlman would make more HellBoy movies. A reboot starring David Harbour was released in 2019, but it was not well received by critics or fans, and it's now deemed to be one of the worst comic book movies ever made.
I never understood the hate for the new one. I livestreamed it with my streaming audience in discord to watch for the first time and no one present said they didn't enjoy it. It's obviously not Ron Perlman but I really liked it.
I've always loved this movie. His dad reminds me of my dad and when he died after an emergency surgery. When he was being wheeled into the OR and I said goodbye, trying to appear calm so that he wouldn't be too scared, he told me he was worried about me, because I was alone. A father's love, worried more about me than about himself even at that moment.
That guy who played Rasputin is Czech actor Karel Roden who had played in many USA movies alongside Wesley Snipes (Blade),Chow Yun Fat (Bulletproof Monk),Robert De Niro (15 Minutes),Gerard Butler (RocknRolla) and many more ;)
Doug Jones is the “fish guy” and plays essentially the same character in Shape of Water too. Also plays the Pale Man in Pans Labyrinth as well as many other characters that require heavy prosthetics.
I honestly forget how big the world is, and that just because I have seen something doesn't mean someone else has. So I'm glad you both get to enjoy The Hellboy movie, can't wait for the sequel reaction!
The same actor, Doug Jones, played both sea creatures in The Shape of Water and Hellboy. He plays Saru on Star Trek Discovery. And the monsters in Pan's Labyrinth .
Just as Ryan Reynolds is Deadpool and Robert Downey Jr. is Iron Man, Ron Perlman is Hellboy. I especially love how Ron has a quote they worked into the movie and it works extremely well on multiple levels. It's said through the character Meyers, "We like people for their qualities, but we love them for their imperfections." It's one of my favorite quotes.
Guillermo Del Toro is one of the best directors and visionary of all time. Period. Stop. PERIOD. I was really bummed how poorly these films did at the box office. The sets, the cinematography, the sound design, the direction, THE CAST! Hellboy is the only Darkhorse comic I’ve read and I’ll be honest I’ve read very little. There is such…. Whimsy to this that I never really expected. I’m getting overwhelmed like it’s my first time watching it seeing you two react! There are a lot of onions in here. I hope you react to the sequel on here!! 🖤🖤
This was an awesome reaction. Your enthusiasm for the movie was so contagious I was reliving my fond memories of watching this movie as a child. The look of this movie is timeless, everything from the costume design and creature effects to the sets is so beautifully crafted. As a kid I cannot express how fascinated I was by the environments of this movie. It was dark and wet at times, but brightly lit and warm in others. The scene where Rasputin rises from the pool of blood frightened me as a child.
I remember first watching this with my dad and then him telling me who played hellboy made it so much better I loved Ron in blade he was a fun character and he CRUSHED this role I was obsessed with this movie as a kid. I miss when it wasn’t ALL cgi like the hours of make up,set designs, and practical effects this movie is pretty perfect for the time and hellboy the golden army is just as good or some would say even better hope you guys react to it. Doesn’t matter but my dad and I still use the quotes “red means STOP ✋ ” and “gonna be sore in the morning” 😂
Doug Jones was the actor for both Abe and the fish man in "Shape of Water". A different actor did the voice for Abe but refused credit because of respect for Jones
Fun fact: When Myers and Liz caught a cab back to the B.P.R.D she took his picture but it got blown away. She said she'd take another one of him hence why she took his picture on the coffee date.
I HOPE U GUYS DO HELLBOY 2!!!! these movies by gdt are incredible and so amazing to watch back when practical effects and cg were actually cared about. so happy u both enjoyed the movie i’m sure you’ll like the second one even more cuz it goes more in depth w the characters and their personalities ☺️💗
The combination of Guillermo del Toro as a master storyteller and Ron Perlman's gift as a talented thespian and voice actor is a gift to the arts and the humanities. 🤯
Do you recognize the guy who plays Abe Sapien? No but it is Doug Jones and HE'S A LEGEND whenever there's an iconic freaky tall monster or creature it's usually him - same for Shape of Water
I hope you guys get to watch the sequel its very underappreciated but the first Hellboy is one of the best comic book adaptations ever it was well written the casting for all the characters was perfect and the directing and sets were phenomenal Guillermo Del Toro is so good
13:59 I always though thought it was cool that he was “60” but he’s barely out of his 20’s and you can definitely tell he has such funny immature moments like a 20 year old lol. 41:43 I love this show the fire above his head is a CROWN love the little details I didn’t notice as a kid. 53:10 “the things we do for love Tara” gave me got ptsd 😂
Anyone ever heard of the horror movie “The Cell” from 2000 staring Jlo & Vince Vaughn ? I think you guys should definitely give it a try CRIMINALLY UNDERRATED film !
12:21-Hehe. interesting fact: Abe Sapien here is played by the same actor who played the Amphibian Man in The Shape of Water, his name is Doug Jones. In fact, Jones and del Toro have collaborated numerous times. Jones played both the Faun and the Pale Man in Pan's Labyrinth.
