The new Helldivers 2 Warbond just dropped (the new POLAR PATRIOTS Warbond) and I woke up early to unlock & test LITERALLY everything in the new warbond. The Helldivers 2 Pummeler SMG, the Tenderizer (also my nickname in College) - everything. Here's my review of the new Polar Patriots Warbond.

I wouldn't be against a buff to the Tenderizer, but to me it currently feels fantastic. That EXTREMELY low recoil means that with my armor of choice it barely budges when fired. This allows me to hit precision points like headshots on devs and berserkers both consistently and at range. A damage buff or even just an armor pen buff would be fantastic

i think these warbonds were made way before game’s release, so the weapons released now did not take into effect any of the previous buffs. Tenderizer is definitely supposed to have more dmg that the liberator lol.

It would take an intern at the company 5 minutes to change the numeric values a bit before they are released. Not sure why they act like making such simple number changes takes months of work.

@@SuperCatacata It does take a long time though. The programmers don't actually have anything to do with the balance team. They need a lot of data to figure out if buffing/nerfing a weapon is a good idea.

the purifier should have been the plasma equivalent of the erruptor. destroy fabricators, one shot big enemies, larger explosion ect

based on the existence of the "resistance to arc damage" trait, I am surprised that they haven't released one with "resistance to fire damage". That would be awesome, especially after getting the ship module to increase fire damage. Get everyone in the team wearing that, and set fire to the world!

As someone who fights a lot of bots and loves using the ballistic shield, the Pummeler definitely has my attention more than anything else in this warbond.

The Defender is absurdly accurate so hopefully Pummeler doesn't sacrifice long range accuracy for kickback but still keen to give it a go with the shield

I like impacts, half the grenades I've thrown that have a fuse get 0 kills because of my poor timing. Also, using a backpack blast shield will severely lessen the consequences of impacts thrown in your proximity.

I personally believe weapons are being released underpowered so the team can balance them out over time, instead of the new warbond having the latest and greatest weapons every release

Strategy makes sense, until you realize that way less people will buy the warbond if they all suck. Still better than releasing them OP to get purchases, just to nerf them to shit after 2 weeks IMO.

Not a good idea to release underpowered. It kills the hype of seeing a new warbond. Things shouldnt be extremely OP but it would be more hype if it was either slightly overtuned or balanced instead of what we got there.

That's not exactly what they've been doing, though. Sure, some premium warbond weapons have been buffed reasonably, but others have been nerfed unreasonably. The democratic detonation warbond, for example, doesn't have a single good primary weapon anymore after the severe eruptor nerfs. The adjudicator is somehow the current best from that group, and it's very mid. I hope that they consider buffing things properly moving forward, and that the warbonds start releasing with weapons in a better state as there is generally less hype around buffs than there is around entirely new content.

Not really. Buffs are the overwhelming majority of their balance changes. People like to treat nerfs in this like automatic trash cans. If a single number gets lowered at any points it's suddenly garbage. Ridiculous lol

The purifier needs a faster charge up time for the damage it currently dishes out. It feels like I'm barely doing any more damage than a single scorcher round... While taking 2 seconds to charge up each shot.

As a scorcher user I tried the purifier today and I had issues with charge time . Love the stagger but only if didn’t take so long to charge . I went back to scorcher

I think the Verdict's main advantage is gonna be ammo supply at 8(+1) 10 round mags. The Senator has the advantage on damage and pen, but at 40(+6) has half the overall ammo. The redeemer comes with 4(+1) mags which you can absolutely BURN through if you're not careful I think it make a good pairing with guns like the eruptor, giving you a reliable sidearm with a solid ammo supply to supliment a harder hitting, but slow to reload primary

There's ammo all over every map. If you hit your shots, you don't need to cope with a worse Senator. Changes nothing gameplay-wise.

It's a downgrade from the starting pistol in every possible way... add to that you have the redeemer that's better than 50% of the sidearms in the game. Then they gave the revolver a speed loader; this pistol serves no purpose.

I agree with you here. I use the senator and my biggest issue is running out of ammo because of the maximum. Having a much greater maximum will def help circumvent the problem.

Yeah the Verdict needs to have the Senators old damage (150) with medium armor penetration. For pistols, it would be nice if they gave higher multipliers for critical hits as well, at least for larger rounds.

I absolutely *hate* that Arrowhead released a winter warfare themed warbond with absolutely zero winter-themed equipment. This could have been a time to add cryo ammo to the game, or give us some armors for snow planets, but instead we just got three armor sets with new designations (CW) and recycled perks, and boring, uninspired weapons. AH have said they don't want to slow down the cadence of 1 monthly warbond, but if this is the quality we can expect from them going forward, I'll be really disappointed. Saving my super credits and giving this one a miss.

This is the same thing I’ve been saying to other people who play there’s so many things that don’t make any sense in this game. The incendiary breaker has one less bullet then the spray and pray and does more damage and damage over time. if you were going to name some the spray and pray and give it less damage than another variant of the weapon then it needs to have more than one extra bullet…. I love this game. I just wish that they would stop Nerf guns and start buffing guns if the erupted is something people love to play with and it’s powerful, but it is balanced or was balanced then use that as a example of what to do with other people aren’t playing with instead of Nerfing it into the ground. to try to force people to play with other shit weapons

This warbond kinda confirms something I've been posting My two cents. Weapons have 0 idenity. Weapon A fires twice as fast as weapon B with half the damage. Weapon C has twice the mag but takes half its time to reload. Weapon D is accurate and high damage but slow to fire.... these are the same weapon. Polar weapons. Where is my ice and slow? Cutting edge.. where is my high tech? We got one niche weapon out. Assault rifles spit bullets fast, marksman shoot slower but a bit harder, smg are one handed but less hard hitting... it's the same. The nerfs are a monument to mediocrity. Make somone argue why the adjudicator is better or as good as the liberator and have the liberator person have good points too... make your weapons memorable cause so far they are literally... all the same. If something new isn't stronger, or feels different, why do we want 20 assault rifles that all kill the same rate in the same ways?

In hd1 there were more unique weapons partly because you could upgrade them. Such as giving them a knife on the edge for bonus melee dmg but alot of the weapons were fairly similar. We need perks on weapons. Like after scoring a kill your weapons does bonus dmg or reloading is quicker after a kill stuff like that may help make them feel different

I agree Planetside 2 had this exact problem at the beginning as well. Balancing everything around damage is a room temp IQ of balancing. Let us have trade offs and let us pick how snd when to exploit weapons advantages. Further, give us an explanation of how this weapon adds any tactical nuance to the arsenal we already have.

The game is suffering from "boring gun" syndrome, which is weird cause normally sci fi games have the most interesting weapons. Adding some elemental affects or passives to some of the weapons could go a long way.

I started inwardly cringing when you were going on about how viable the pummeler & the nade are. I feel like any enthusiastic enjoyment of a weapon will get it nerfed. It's a shame, but that's what it literally feels like. Neutering the railgun and eruptor hurt, and I refuse to use the incendiary breaker because it's too good, works too well, and is fun. So I know it will be nerfed eventually, and don't want to build around it knowing it will change.

So based on how fast they are releasing Warbonds, the Tenderizer was likely designed over a month ago prior to the patch that buffed the Liberator. So at the time it was designed, it was supposed to be a slightly better Liberator with 60dmg over the like 50 (or 55?) dmg the Liberator had. So instead of the weapon being "bad", it just needs to be buffed to fall in line with how the other weapons got adjusted a little while ago. So I wouldn't be surprised if they either make the Tenderizer a medium penetrating gun or they'll boost the damage to like 70.

Let's say they kept the low recoil which is still a great feature but not enough to carry it but buff the dmg to 70. Compare that to the regular lib that does 60 and has some manageable recoil. This means it really is worth taking and it's a worthy sidegrade. It's dmg output would be good for the fact that you are dishing out consistent and high dmg with a lower mag to kill things faster than the reg Lib can but deal with frequent reloads. The lower recoil means your TTK is consistent as your bullets will more often land and being ammo efficient if you can divide that low mag between enemies. All it really needs is to boost the dmg to compliment the low recoil and so that they don't false advertise "higher stopping power" when it's just low recoil.

I feel like the tenderizer originally had more damage than the liberator before the patch but then they forgot to change it. I feel like it should do 75 damage without medium pen. Kinda like an alternative to the adjudicator. Similar damage but higher rate of fire and no pen

You're definitely not the only one... I was really hoping for something like "Environmental Seal" for slowdown and weather effect resistance... I personally think every warbond should have a light, medium, and heavy armor with the same themed passive.

@@blakereed92 yea, i was also hoping for stuff like that, and maybe some armour that helps with some strat/weapon combos like somthing that might help speed up clooping for laser weapons, or armour links to turrets so maybe prevent friendly fire, make the armour go with your build not just, imp throw on everything.

Been enjoying light armor with extra grenades+ SMG with stagger * Impact Incendiaries for crowd control. Can gather adds into one place, set them on fire and keep them there Hipfire and Rover for added awareness and DPS, and EATs for the occasional quick shot into a charger.

Very glad to see another SMG. Stuns looks super useful, but I'm not sure if it's enough to use it over something with more power (and penetration). I'm still hoping for a silenced SMG in the future. That'd go hard.

The stuns do next to nothing useful IMO. The defender does everything this SMG does but better. Concussive rounds need to do more crowd control IMO if they are ever going to compete with actually just killing the enemy faster.

@@SuperCatacata Yeah I noticed this as well, skipped the AR because I knew it would be shit, used the SMG for 2 bug missions, noticed that, while it was okay it was barely a sidegrade. The "utility" of stun locking enemies is fine but it's not enough in my book; these past 2 Warbonds have been nothing but disappointment, especially the Demo one from last month now that they've nerfed the only useful weapon from that pack into the center of the earth.

Smg pummeler is how all guns should be. Weaker stats but its edge is that stopping power it has. I was shooting a charger in the leg that was stripped of armor and it stopped it dead in its tracks. Took a few more bullets than I think the defender would. This is how a weapon should be balanced

I have only tried the tenderizer so far. It was fine, I was able to get through a suicide mission with out regretting my choice in primary. The main thing that trips me up when choosing a primary is just how good the sickle is. There are other things that are comparable damage wise, and even just over all performance. What sets the sickle apart so drastically for me is how you don't need to reload if you're paying attention. It starts to get close to over heating, switch to your secondary, or a support weapon, toss a few grenades, or an eagle. By the time you switch back, it's at least half way or fully recharged. Any time I use the sickle, it just feels like I never have to stop shooting.

Same but with the scorcher. With my accuracy above 85% I get more out of higher burst damage, so I never not-use the Scorch. And what's more baffling is every other gun get's nerfed to high hell EXCEPT that gun. The Eruptor was the FIRST TIME a gun matched the DPS/Utility of the Scorcher... and now it's nerfed.

The Tenderizer has more reserve mags than the Liberator - similarly, the Verdict has more reserve magazines than the Redeemer. Its worth mentioning that these guns may be a little more ammo efficient as a result, but in horde games, you need DPS as the waves grow, not ammo efficiency.

It's almost like the lead balance dev outed himself by stating he didn't understand the mechanics of the game. That and the head of AH can't even be carried through a difficulty 6 match. That tells you everything you need to know about how they "balance" the game.

Medium pen is only really useful on bots. And you have support weapons for many Things too. I for example dont really need medium pen armor as i do everything above light armor with my support weapons ( on bots)

Impacts are bad for hitting up vents or bug holes, meanwhile regular incendiary does have similar area denial capability. Granted, I don't use incendiary anymore because a good primary means you don't have to.

honestly, the purifier is not that bad, after getting used to it, its S tier for medium to long range crowd control weapon. I do believe they are gonna buff it damage wise in the next patch, the verdict is also fun to use, verdict for smaller enemies and purifier for medium enemies. cant wait to try it out on automaton.

Motivational shocks works with all forms of stun and stagger. Ive found that it lets me shoot the autocannon closer to myself without getting knocked over, and if I do I get up almost instantly. It's now a must use IMO along with vitality

I think the pummeler has a good niche in a support weapon. Lot of bezerkers recently with automatons, and they will chase the absolute hell out of my teammates, blocking them from doing most things until the zerkers are dead. This lets me put a stop to the zerkers long enough for my team to down the bigger threats, and then we can all turn back on the zerkers. Also has the effect of really bunching them together if you stagger your shots and 'shepard' the flock around a bit. With the ballistic shield, this makes it a great stopgap vs shield devestators and can put a rocket dev out of the running for a little bit while our sniper handles it. We got another teammate with the diligence counter sniper and he takes out rocket pods in 2 hits-ish, along with picking off the rocket troopers. If he's got more time he can snipe the heads but they're hard to hit with everything happening. Every other bot just shoots lasers, so the shield tanks it all while the snipers happily munch the rest away. Tanks and hulks are dealt with by stun grenade + lazer cannon/AMR. I don't feel like I'm killing a lot of bots with the weapon though, I feel more like a true tank that's keeping everything stunlocked around while the DPS do their job without getting hassled.

I think the difference between the Incendiary grenades is the ability to cook. So with the impact, you get instant delivery. Handy for a quick reaction. But with the Standard, the ability to cook the nade makes it slightly more versatile. As in if you cook and throw above a group you can catch a tonne of targets. (Not saying that this is consistent or definitive, but this is what I've noticed in usage.)

The fused grenade shine on bug hole/fabricators. Sometimes the impacts blow up before going into the hole all the way. Another thing about the fused ones is you have the option to throw/roll it under groups of enemies (esp bugs) and it blows under them, it can be really effective.

It's good to have the g10 incendiary when doing blitz or just targeting bug holes in general as the impact incendiary seems to have "flaming shrapnel" that set you on fire even if your about a meter or 2 away from the blast radius

Lower rate of fire is what i personally prefer. With high fire rate on ur primary assault, its easier to waste hella ammo. High rate secondary like the old pistol semi automatic? Perfect as a secondary.

The new SMG is great against enemies that can rush you down quickly. I usually fight at the bot front and it super effective against Devastators and berzerks

One user in chat thinks that the warbonds themselves were made way before the games release (Which is common for some games) and the weapons are supposed to do more damage then the previous ones, so all I can say is give the devs some time as they still have a lot on their plate

incendiary nade since you're wondering: the fuse one you can drop at your feet and dive/run away and not take damage from it by the time it explodes, impact one you can't really throw it next to you or at all without setting yourself on fire if you're overwhelmed.

Eruptor is still my go to primary, i like to stand back and snipe things, good for biles and bigger things, and taking out large groups, also being able to shoot a bug hole with it is very nice. Always run the revolver as a side, now i use new deagle pistol. I use the stalwart as my main weapon though, 1100 rpm mode

Adjudicator blew hot ass when that Warbond dropped. Now it's good as hell. I think they release them semi intentionally bad so they can use player experiences to buff/nerf stuff where it needs it.

Exactly this. They should all be good at the very least. People are spending money or time to get these warbonds. And with the system they've set up, if all the premium warbond weapons were slightly better than the free warbond weapons, it couldn't even reasonably be called pay to win. "Play" to win would be more accurate since you can get everything for free.

What I think they need is to make weapons for certain enemies in mind. Pummeler for stalkers, a pistol that can snipe that does higher damage no pen. A pistol that does not do alot of damage but can deal with strinders. Another granade pistol with another type of granade would be cool. A pistol that distracts bugs and automatons would be interesting (2 ammo shoots something that has the coding agro of a turret.)

Armors need new passive traits, verdict needs more damage or medium armor penetration, tenderizer needs a lot more damage, or just a bit more but with medium armor penetration. The purifier needs either more damage or more ammo plus faster charge up. And an adjustable scope.

Few thoughts about balancing. I’m not for “never nerf”. I bought super credits to support Arrowhead. However, I lost joy with the last balancing patches. Why: A big part the game is the feeling. Weapons have weight, enemies react to hits and we don’t scale only by HP. Great. BUT, the feeling is disturbed with enemy buffs. Trailer/early gameplay allows killing a bile titan via EAT headshot. Doesn't work now. Spawn increased. More big foes and less effective weapons. For casuals (me) this turns HD2 into a “runaway simulator” at high diff (which I need for progress by samples…). More skilled players probably enjoy the higher difficulty. That’s why I have some suggestions regarding the balancing: • Let heavy weapons be heavy hitters • Don’t try to balance the game like its an e-sports title. It isn’t • Don’t punish players for playing with 1 or 2 friends • Drastically increase difficulty for 8 and 9 (compared to 1-7), so “dad gamers” can get their progression (a bit slower) while enthusiasts can have their challenge • More diverse loadouts by enemy resistances (please no physical). Breaker incendiary gets less interesting a certain % of enemies may have fire resistance. Same for gas, lightning, etc. • Increase toughness of big enemies by adding ERA for heavy Automaton units. And a symbiosis with another armored bug that tanks a hit before the Titans head is vulnerable. Use small bugs riding a titan and throwing thorns in the direction of incoming EAT. Spawn these with normal enemies (while their share rises in high difficulties). The games core superb. We have fun playing it. It’s not a chore (like playing 1h of boring repetitive WoW quests every day to even be able to play the interesting parts once a week), it’s not ridiculously time consuming (like Diablo 4s get a best in class). I (and all my friends) stopped playing these games because we don’t need a second job. But Pilestedts last replies make me optimistic that we might keep playing Helldivers 2 for longer.

I honestly love the weapons, I think people forget that this game is a Hoard Shooter and expect every gun to be some how way better than the originals, it is more about variety than it is finding the BEST GUNS. just a personal take. Meanwhile the passive traits could need more variety than it does but armour has always been more about personal taste than it has changing the dynamic of how you play. Example: Trailblazer being so popular despite the passive being virtually useless in a gunfight. Overall, decent warbond. Also, throwing it out there, lower rate of fire on top of low recoil is much better than people give credit for, Tenderiser isn't bad, i am hitting a lot more heads than i do using the Liberator and personally enjoy the lower magazine size with the 10 reserve, just need to aim a little more carefully instead of mag dumping.

As someone who just used them in a couple of matches 1 the smg is just the liberator concussive just one handed and a bit weaker 2 the new A.R is a liberator copy and paste different sound and maybe rate of fire 3 the last one is just a slower but more powerful scorcher

I like to play the non premium shotgun you unlock from very first or 2nd page for like 3 medals. I found a pummeller dropped by a dead helldiver, I picked it up and played the whole match with it. I didn't like it for lack of damage.

I saw stagger on shield devistators. I'm sold on the plas. Railgun can't do that. Fixes my load out. Drop Railgun for amr and take the new plas. 🤔 Means I can shift off of impact nades for shield devistators possibly

A lot of people saying they wanted the new pistol to have medium pen, not realizing it would probably overshadow or step on the Senator’s toes New pistol has 10 rounds, and 8 mags, literally double the Senator’s ammo which was its drawback If anything I was expecting more like a hollow point ammo situation where it’s low armor pen, but has a lot more damage

I had hopes for the pummeler, for a balistic shield build against the bot devastators. It stuns the lower chaff but does nothing against devastators. Shield is pretty much no use against bugs. The incendiary nade is good the rest of the warbond guns are a let down. Muscle enhancer i feel to be better than the motavational shocks, the shocks shoulda given you a speed boost on stun.

You missed the new Superstore armor, winter wolf armor looks like space marine armor, and the grenadier Hvy armor not only looks cool but has a unique perk for the Heavy class. Its the only one with engineer stat.

As mid as the Tenderizer is, it feels like its got 100 Stability and 100 Handling. The mid damage profile is forgivable for now because the recoil and accuracy make it very good at focused fire against bot weakspots. What I can't forgive is how it doesn't refill full ammo from resupply.

The tenderizer is far inferior to the Jar 5 Dominator I normally equip. Why bring out new weapons if they aren't any good or better than what is currently available? It makes no sense.. The new grenade is good but the other are meh..

The difference between those two incendiary grenades is actually quite simple It has to do with versatility Impact is good for doing direct damage and getting it out right away but as a whole an impact cannot really close a bug nest they'll usually hit a side of it and explore before actually gets inside Where the other one maintains is integrity until the timer ends which will allow you to destroy bug nest so the question is will you be needing a constant fire immediately or do you want to use your grenades for a little bit of both

If you can’t close a bug hole with a impact then that’s a skill issue … all I use is impacts and I can whip one at max distance and swish it everytime …impact is the best grenade … the new ones don’t do as much instant damage … but more to groups over time

I wouldnt be surprised if the touted increased stopping power of the tenderizer was in the form of a slightly higher armor penetration, which is a stat that is hidden from us for some fucking reason.

I think the problem for the new AR at the start is they SUPER recently, buffed the damage on the liberator default AR, and i get the feeling they forgot to buff the stats on this AR prior to its release to compensate

I believe the damage stat only tells you the max damage stat but omits stuff like damage drop off, stun etc. Having not tested it, I wonder if the Tenderizer has better damage drop off for longer range fights to justify the 'more stopping power' description.
