I always say, it's not the fact that a product has a defect...but rather it's how the problem is resolved! Well, when I had a split in the handle of my Helle Odel, I was pleasantly surprised at how well I was taken care of and how responsive Helle and their local sales representatives were. They worked very quickly to get a replacement blade to me and communicated very well the entire time...this video is a quick discussion about my experience!

I enjoy trying out different brands and styles...Helle has some nice stuff, not always my first cup of tea...especially coming from the full tang survival beater blade guy...but I enjoy style and sometimes need a blade that doesn't scare the office!

No matter how high a quality a manufacturer strives for mishaps and flaws can happen. It is how the manufacturer deals with those issues that tells the tale. It seems Helle takes their customer satisfaction seriously. Very nice.

You got it!! It's not that the mistake happens, but how it's dealt with! Definitely a great job on this one! Thanks for watching!

Here in Norway it’s pretty cheap. Nothing is really cheap here but anyway. I’ve had a couple of knives of Helle. Quality really good. The laminated blade. Trust me ..

I don't own a Helle but in my research I found a lot of quality issues in forums and videos. This and the high prices got me into Marttiini knives. Of similar style, excellent quality and very affordable. I must have more than 10 now and each has arrived sharper than sharp and absolutely flawless at a fraction of the price. I always did like Helle designs though but their prices are crazy high for what they are.

I have also looked into Marttiini but never pulled the trigger. You'll find one on my channel someday I'm sure!

I was definitely bummed out, but the service gave me all the confidence in the world. Issues some up with any blade...and to get it remedied so quickly and easily was a great sign of overall quality!

Cheap throw away crappy gear seems to be the norm these days, generally I advise against it, mainly because I'm a little older. This gives me hope, good prompt responses and great customer service means spending the extra dollars gets you so much more in return. I have been looking at Helle knives for a long time, mainly their Puukko blades, excuse the spelling.

Definitely some nice blades. I like trying out different things and have 2 Helle knives...both are nice styles...only this one had the problem, but I really like the Arv they replaced it with. It's my office knife for eating my lunches! Doesn't scare the office away!

I have this knife. The leather they used on the handle was not compressed enough so the handle is very springy and makes me wary the handle is going to fail and possibly injur me. I have other helle knives I absolutely love but the arv is a blade that I wont trust in field.

Hmm...very strange! Mine is super solid. I wonder if the collar that locks the back of the tang (on the pommel end) isn't tight enough? If you are in the US reach out to johnstephens@sport-hansa.com to see if they will cover it under warranty. John is great and very responsive.

That’s the first time I’ve heard of this brand. At first glance it reminds me of a Mora. Checked them out on eBay and there’s no comparison in price. Helle has some beautiful knives. Does a wood handle justify the cost to me? I see the uniqueness of it and that it would make a great knife to pass on down the family tree. They seem to fancy or fine to beat up. I did see a really nice one, the Helle Utvaer for $170.00. I just can’t justify the price right now. Beautiful knives though.

jonnyboat2 very well known popular knife brand tons of different blades for sale well made my only pet peeve is there not full tang for the most part I believe so I never bought one but all there knives are well made and good looking if u like there kinda style it’s done well.

I have wanted the Utvaer for a LONG time...it came out maybe like 2 or 3 years ago...and the minute I saw it I knew I wanted it. People make nice custom handles...you can buy most Helles as a sharpened and polished blank and fabricate your own handles...some people do a gorgeous job. It's a Voxnaes design who I often like. The Utvaer really catches my eye! I am willing to pay the money for things that I like...$170 is admittedly steep which is why I don't own one yet!

Just a flaw...I don't really find these overly cheap...kinda nice actually. Just wood with grain and that 's what can happen.

Well - my experience is quite different. I bought a helle temagami with a loose handle. I had gone to great lengths to find one with a beautifully patterned handle and paid extra to have it imported from abroad to get that specific knife. This was the first series of the carbon version with more of a drop to the blade and a bit of a ridge on the spine for the thumb. Different from the current versions and now out of production. I contacted Helle through the Canadian seller and since I was in Scandinavia and the seller in Canada - Helle asked me to ship it directly to them in Norway. Throughout our exchange I had specifically asked them to NOT just go ahead and send me something off the shelf if they found they could not repair it but to contact me first about what to do, because I’d gone so far to get what I specifically wanted. They were quite aware of the whole history through both me and the Canadian seller. Still when they found they could not repair it they did not get back to me but just went right ahead and sent me one of the newer series with a straighter blade, and no ridge on the spine. The knife that suddenly arrived, had completely lackluster, unpatterned handle that looked like a common piece of floor board, and I was now even further down on the deal having paid for a shipment to Norway. I got back to them about it and someone in management said he’d find or make me one out of the old batch, he just had to go on holiday for 3 weeks first on his boat. I never heard from Helle again. Over the years I have tried to contact them many many times from different email adresses, just in case something got stuck in spam filters. Every time I have summarized everything with reference to their own promises - the whole thread is still in my email history. But they never answer. Apparently they just don’t give a shit about their promise or just finalizing correspondance. And I ended up paying more than double the price for a knife I never wanted and specifically asked them not to send me and which they promised to replace but never did. Since then I’ve bought a Wabakimi from a German seller. It arrived with a bent blade but I could not be bothered anymore. I’ve bought a Temagami blade from a local seller to make my own handle - it came bent. So did the eventual replacement blade. I can’t say if that’s down to the local vendors or Helles quality control. But I can say I can’t be fucked to waste time trying to even get an email reply out of them at this point.

@@outerlimitless Ikr. In all fairness I’ve mostly only heard to good things about Helle otherwise, so it’s just a mystery to me what this was really all about. Anyway - I’ve let it go of it by now … thanks for all the content :)
