The point is: when I disconnect my music machines from the internet/network completely (because of performance reasons), I do not have a choice: I have to purchase a hardware iLOK key for every machine! I do not understand why VSL doesn't allow hardware/machine based iLOK activations, like other vendors do - UVI, for instance. Any chance that this will be coming?

Hi. I think for anyone with 3 or more VEPro servers (such as many studios), it would be a very good idea for VSL to support network iLok licensing, whereby one computer acts as the license manager, and the others on the network are license clients. This is how it works with Avid's Media Composer and ProTools. If my studio has to move to iLok for VEPro licensing, then we will be forced to spend £500+ on new iLok dongles, for no benefit. It makes absolutely no sense!!
@@jonathanbrooker8193 Alas, network licensing does still require network interfaces to be turned on. And this is an issue on at least one of my machines, where the network interface is causing serious latency issues. Switching it off does improve it a lot!
@@HJPhilippi ok that’s curious. I wonder why a network card is causing latency issues? We have 14 servers (12 running VEPro7) in the studio and don’t have this issue. Perhaps its a configuration issue. Have you tried increasing the transmit buffer size to the max, and same with receive buffers? Also make sure the installed driver is correct and up to date, which will require you to download it from the card manufacturer’s website and install it manually (don’t rely on Windows to update it for you).
I'm looking into Vienna pro 7 because I'm out of luck getting my Vienna Pro 6 to work on a 3rd computer. I just discovered I can no longer update the elicencer dongle I just purchased after attempting to update it with my Pro 6 licence . I was really happy with pro 6 for running lots of instances of Kontakt on a second machine and never would have guessed the option of expanding it to a 3rd machine would expire since I bought it in 2017. Never would have thought I couldn't simply add another key /even if 6 is no longer supported for whatever reason (works fine yo). Nervous to switch to pro 7 because of fear of security conflicts bricking pro 6 and or 7 and all the confusing security migration measures for each. I also fear pro 7 won't be supported much longer or the security measures may change again. Is there a pro 8 out or another multi rig product coming out soon I should wait for?
I have a question: I am currently using VE Pro 7.0.1056 with e-licencer on my window server (i dont want to use the version 7.0.1120 because was not working correctly on my window machine, lagging and unusable). After the switch to ilok will I be able to continue to use the version 7.0.1056 ? Is this available as download in the new software manager or will be automatically activated without re-download it so it stays version 7.0.1056?) Thank you for support.
Great video - thanks Paul. However, I am trying to understand why one physical server / computer can only use the iLok Cloud licenser. We have x12 Dell servers each running VEPro7. Having purchased x12 eLicenser dongles, it now looks like we have to throw these in the bin and find big £budget for a set of x12 iLok dongles. Surely this is not correct?!?!?
Like I already anwered in the forum, there is no reason to rush the transition right now, especially in your case with that many machines. The eLicenser based versions of our software will continue to work just fine, no pressure. - Ben
@@ViennaSymphonicLibrary thanks but the point here is that 1. There is no longer any maintenance support or bug fixes for anyone left on eLicenser. This is a BIG issue for professionals and studios with a large number of servers 2. Anyone left on eLicenser will no longer receive new features 3. Anyone left on eLicenser will not be supported 4. VSL have not stepped up to fund the transfer to iLok 5. The cost of moving to iLok is not offset by any benefits to VSL’s customers 6. Studios with a large number of VEPro servers face the high cost of moving to iLok or finding alternative software instead of VEPro (perhaps AudioGridder) 7. The clock is now ticking!! Appreciate there has been a year’s notice on the move to iLok, but to leave customers without any support is ridiculous, especially when there is a networking iLok solution that could work so well.
Hi Jon, As discussed in a few forums where you also voiced your opinion, our decision is very clear: A network iLok solution will not be available in the near future. iLok Cloud and iLok keys will work with our products and Vienna Ensemble Pro as shown in the video. Current systems running eLicenser software and licenses will work stable as they did for the last years and the last eLicenser versions of our software have been improved over many years. It is of course your decision how you want to handle this. IMPORTANT: We are neither selling iLok keys nor are we earning anything from this transition to iLok. On the contrary, we are providing unlimited downloads of all sample content at any time for registered products, as we did for eLicenser. So thousands of existing users are currently download thousands of Terrabytes of data, enjoying a comfortable transition with the help of our custom-made Vienna Assistant software. @@jonathanbrooker8193 Sympathise - here with some thoughts. I have a drawer full of now useless dongles as proprietors moved to iLok. I cannot say I am sorry to see the end of eLicenser. What, as a percentage of the total overall cost of your VSL set up would the additional iLoks be? Have you contacted iLok direct or any distribution outlet for a bulk discount. Dell would be iLok 2 rather than iLok 3. One thing VSL could do is allow each license to be embedded to an individual machine. Many Software Companies allow this.
@@johnbroadway7709 many thanks for your thoughts on this. I did speak with a very senior member of iLok’s executive team. They have pointed out to VSL that it would be better for VSL licences to sit on a virtual drive on each physical server, which is something many other vendors already do, but VSL have not yet looked in to this as a serious option. The iLok folk said this was down to VSL and not any limitation with iLok. Anyway, we have started working with AudioGridder as an alternative solution which will hopefully get us away from relying on VEPro as some stage soon - hopefully before VEPro becomes unusable.
Just for clarity, I have 3 servers, one CAN use cloud, the other two will require usb dongles. ... Is this because there's no...UUID ,, in a way, for VEP Pro to say "this" license is with "that" server ? This is fine. UUID's unfortunately can be duped too easily. We smoke test such stuff at my tech job.
Yes, if you have all three licenses on the same iLok account you can use the Cloud option for one server and would need iLok USB keys for the other two. - Ben
It would be best If I could drag a license from the cloud to a computer and then use the cloud to distribute the licenses to the computers that are using VEP. I work with 5 computers and we have 4 stations, so this just means when my elicensers die I need to buy a bunch of iloks... Not very helpful for me.
Hi John, We're working with the possibilities we get from iLok. Maybe there will be an advanced option with the iLok Cloud in the future, but for now you will need multiple iLok keys if you want to stick to the multi-computer setup. - Paul
Well, when I buy software I prefer anti-piracy measures since it means fairness. Ie I know someone else isn’t getting this for free, so me paying for it makes me feel ok and not cheated.
