androgynous does not mean genderless. clive barker refers to pinhead as "the Hell PRIEST" and "the Cold MAN." this cheap reimagining just to swap an iconic characters gender is lazy, uncreative, and unnecessary. the novella referencing an effeminate voice does not mean pinhead was ever not a male.

It’s more of a “breathy like an excited girl” but androgynous isn’t exactly male or female which the new pinhead is clearly female. Though there are female cenobites in the hellbound heart.

Exactly the review I was looking for...seems worth the time and investment as a fan of the 1st two films. Not so much the others. I noted other reviewers making the film more about drug addiction than sex addiction for this interpretation which would make sense regarding the main character being unlikable. Ending up with nothing knowing she destroyed everything but selfishly made it out. Appreciate your candidness as always. My go to reviewers.

I’ve always loved the gore and makeup effects of the first 2 Hellraiser films, and even the Look of the Cenobites. But the Cenobites’ actual schtick was less scary than say Julia’s murders. They just stand around looking cool while PH espouses some Doom Shit. Then the chain hooks fly out or a greasy monster chases you through a hallway. Sure if actually happening IRL it’d be scary AF, but I always wish they were a little more proactive in their violence (full body prosthetics and tight black leather probably didn’t help mobility). Doug Bradley’s presence & voice really did carry that threat level.

I wish Riley went the Kirsty route (from the comics) and chosen a configuration (resurrection?) that would have led to her having her own cenobite gash with her brother and roommates. This would have led to a bit longer of a movie too (which I wouldn't have minded one bit).

It was...okay but to my point of view the movie could have started and stayed with the gathering in the beginning. There was enough guests to make enough sacrifices. The story could have revolved into a huit clos with a claustrophobic atmospehere of being stuck into the mansion. That said , hats off to the look of the cenobites, the sound design and the visual effects and artistic direction.

I really thought both Riley and her brother were really underwritten. If you're going to make your horror protagonist an addict, commit. She felt like a walking cliche of "drug addicts" from bad horror flicks, and the brother's behavior seemed erratic to me considering we got little to no actual backstory to his relationship with her outside of 'she's his sister and she does drugs'. And yeah, lots of "convenience", for sure. Not to mention, the aesthetic seemed kinda devoid of any real identity, the roommates were basically non-characters, and the Cennobites were like, hot? lol. Yeah, this was a major bust for me.

This movie was terrible. Being a huge fan of the franchise, I was excited to see what this installment was about. Not all of them have been good, but the popularity of the franchise and especially the cenobites peaked my interest. Honestly, the actor who played the OG Pinhead (Doug Bradley) is who I'm a real fan of. He hasn't been in all the Hellraiser films, but I always like to see whoever is cast can hold the character of Pinhead up to Bradley's level. Sadly, none of them have. That is also true in the case of this latest installment. The cenobites in this film were boring and two dimensional, without menace or fear. Bradley's first appearance as Pinhead was way back in 1987 and his presence still to this day chills me to the bone. The make-up and effects are not enough. There must be something in the actor playing these roles that makes you believe that they are as threatening as they seem on film and the actors in this film missed the mark big time.

I totally agree with you about the slow beginning and Riley’s god awful character! I see it as a cenobite views torture and pain as humans view pleasure. So, when a human asks for the gift of pleasure. It actually is the equivalent of the worst pain imaginable. The cenobites view these different sources of pain as special gifts because they are sadistic creatures by nature, unlike humans. They really feel like they are doing us a great favor bringing us to hell and giving us sweet torture. Think about what Doug Bradley’s Hellpriest says in the original 2nd film about sweet suffering. It is the only way for them to feel anything because they are waaay beyond the pain threshold. Look at how chatterer reacts to being pulled apart. Fool, just backed up, arms spread and ready to feel the pleasure of the pain that was coming.😂 This hellpriest tells voight that he can’t take back the contraption in his chest because once a threshold has been crosse there’s no going back. That all you can do is search for greater thresholds. So, she suggests power. And, of course he then is blinded by the idea of power(somehow thinking it will be different from how things turned out for him last time) Even AFTER warning Riley that all they had to offer is pain! So, fool get’s dragged into leviathan by the biggest chain hook one has ever seen through his freshly repaired chest..Only(for what I assume) to be nailed to a crucifix inside it for eternal agony and suffering. I don’t guess he’ll be going anywhere else soon. Probably a permanent “power” source for the leviathan to draw from. How’s that for a backhanded grant of a wish for power?

I have a movie idea. I was compelled to type out a story. I ran with it. I'm not even a writer. I'm posting it everywhere. Steal it, change it, like it, hate it, criticize me, just hear me out. I think this should be a movie: Depending on the climax of Halloween Ends, Freddy Krueger resurrects Michael Myers.... or tampers with the Curse of the Thorn to manipulate Michael Myers into destroying the local supply of Hypnocil and murdering the people of Elm Street, sort of like he used Jason Voorhees to do in the past. Meanwhile, Jason has obtained The Necronomicon Ex Mortis: The Book of the Dead. Combined with several artifacts, Jason has become a sorcerer. As Freddy sets Myers loose on Elm Street, Jason slumbers and confronts Freddy in his dream. Freddy, fully confident that Jason doesn't stand a chance against him in the nightmare realm, pulls his familar routine. He surrounds Jason with walls of raging water, using Jason's fear of drowning to scare him... but this time, Jason opens the Lament Configuration inside the nightmare... The raging water disappears. The nightmare realm becomes Leviathan's Hell and the cenobites appear. The cenobites target Freddy as well as Jason. Freddy has no control as the nightmare realm becomes the realm of Leviathan. Freddy's powers are rendered useless in this realm. The cenobites easily begin to tear his soul apart. Freddy and Jason are thrown up on hooks with chains, but Jason breaks free and decapitates Freddy before the cenobites have the chance to savor any pain. Jason then goes on a rampage through the realm of Leviathan as he opposes the cenobites. He easily and brutally dismembers them. He uses their own chains against them. He can kill them, which is not possible by any regular means, except Jason is using the Kandarian Dagger. The masochistic cenobites see waste of suffering in Jason's brutality. Pinhead tells him it's a waste of good suffering as Jason quickly dismembers more of them. With only Jason and Pinhead remaining, the two face off. Pinhead is more of a challenge. Pinhead tries to savor Jason's pain, but senses that Jason's incapable of feeling anything except bloodlust. Pinhead waits too long to kill Jason. Jason is able to break free and end Pinhead by throwing the dagger into Pinhead's chest. Pinhead crumbles into a wrinkled corpse. Jason reclaims the dagger. Leviathan appears. The walls twist and bend to trap Jason, restraining him. Jason struggles to break free, but is now dealing with a more powerful force. Jason shows great resilience and almost breaks free, but he becomes bound to the hellish scenery. He becomes partially encased. He begins to be transformed into a cenobite by Leviathan. Jason is incapable of defeating Leviathan. He continues to struggle as pieces of him are replaced and transformed. He begins to take another form. He wants to continue his violent, SOLO, killing spree, but he has met his match in Leviathan. Jason's mother talks to him in his head. She tells Jason to stop being stubborn and use the Necronomicon to ask the dead for help. Jason breaks one hand free to cast a spell. Jason's mother reads from the Necronomicon in Jason's mind. Jason resurrects the dead cenobites around him as deadites. The deadites convey no prior personality traits. They are pure deadites in the bodies of cenobites and subservient to Jason. The deadite Pinhead breaks Jason free from Leviathan's grasp. Jason hears his mother's voice telling him to solve the puzzle box and escape the realm. Otherwise, he'd be torn apart and become Leviathan's puppet. Jason solves the puzzle and emerges in the nightmare realm where he left off, except Freddy is now dead. Jason is partially transformed by Leviathan and takes on a slightly different, cenobite-style appearance. The water still rages around Jason inside this nightmare. Jason's mother appears. She tells Jason he is free to manipulate the realm. The water dissipates around Jason by his own will. He has control of the nightmare. Jason's mother tells him, "Stop dreaming and get to work." He awakens from his slumber at Camp Crystal Lake. Meanwhile, Myers is on a killing spree on Elm Street. Ash Williams, on a hunt for the Necronomicon, thinks it's Jason committing the murders. Once Ash and a team of familiar protagonists make their way to Elm Street, Ash realizes it's not Jason. Ash gives Myers a chest full of boomstick that sends Myers off of a fifty foot drop. Myers disappears in a body of water. Ash thinks Myers is dead. He says Jason will be much more of a challenge to kill than Myers was. Ash leaves and continues to search for the Necronomicon. Michael Myers still lives. Without Freddy to pull his strings, Myers abandons Elm Street and stalks Ash on his journey. Ash and his team reach Camp Crystal Lake, which is now populated by deadites and zombies, and Jason is in control of them. Jason uses the Necronomicon to perform a ritual and continuously raise deadites. Ash and company intervene. Mayhem ensues. Ash and his friends are then restrained by deadites as Jason approaches closer to slaughter them. The deadites mock and tease Ash in typical deadite fashion as Jason approaches them. Jason finally looks as if he is going to deliver a violent, fatal blow to Ash, but instead, he throws his machete away to his side and into a tree, seemingly for no reason. Ash and company are confused. Jason turns away from Ash and stares into the forest where he threw the machete. Michael Myers comes out from behind a tree, the machete embedded in his torso. He pulls the machete out of his body and holds it by the handle, staring back at Jason. Myers attacks Jason with the machete. While the two fight, Ash uses the opportunity to break free from the deadites and regain the Necronomicon. He begins to remove the deadite spell to stop them from multiplying. Jason takes many hits with the machete from Myers, but only suffers minor, superficial damage. Jason uses only his fists to inflict pain on Myers. He snaps Myers arm that is holding the machete. The machete falls to the ground. Myers begins losing the fight as Jason brutally breaks Myers other arm and legs. Jason snaps Myers neck so that it turns his head backwards. Myers falls to the ground. Jason picks up his machete, turns back toward Ash and attempts to continue his onslaught. Ash has removed the spell that was sending the deadites, but he needs more time to perform the ritual to send them back. Ash's friends try to stall Jason and kill him with the Kandarian Dagger. Jason kills them instead. Myers, still alive, has gotten ahold of the Kandarian Dagger from the dead protagonist and stabs Jason from behind. The dagger begins to send Jason to Hell like it did in the past. The ground opens up to take Jason. Jason shows great resilience once more as demons come from the hole in the ground and try to drag him back to Hell. Jason turns the deadites on the demons. The deadites make the demons lose grip, giving Jason room to almost escape. He tries to pull the dagger from his chest. He almost pulls it out, but Myers kicks the blade all the way back into him. Myers shifts his focus onto the remaining protagonists, but deadites distract him and he fights with the deadites. Ash finishes the ritual. The ritual makes the pit beneath Jason grow in size, attracting all Deadites into it like a vacuum and opening a large hole in the ground. The earth quakes. Myers is dragged into the pit by a deadite that is being pulled in like a vacuum. Myers grabs Jason's foot on the way down, pulling Jason farther in. Jason clings to the ledge we with one hand. Demon hands on the pit walls pull Jason down. The deadites are no longer any help to Jason as they are continuously sucked into the hole. Myers holds Jason's foot and a deadite pulls Myers. Jason tries to pull the knife from his chest one last time and is successful. The demons let Jason go. The pit remains open. The Deadites are gone. Jason fights the vacuum of the pit as Myers hangs onto Jason's foot. Jason kicks Myers off of him. Myers clings to a ledge. Jason pulls himself to the surface. Myers climbs up half way to where Jason was. Jason stands above the pit holding the Kandarian Dagger and stares at Ash. Ash grabs the Lament Configuration and says a one-liner as he throws it in the hole. It falls in and explodes deep down. Cenobite chains quickly emerge from the pit, past Myers, to grab Jason, finally returning him to the underworld. Myers watches Jason as he is pulled down by chains. Myers still clings to the side of the pit. The vacuum stops. Myers has outlived Jason. He tries to climb. The hole closes up around Myers before he makes it to the surface. He is buried deep down. It is almost a happy ending where it seems the protagonists won, but Freddy was playing everybody the whole time.... It ends in Freddy's nightmare. Freddy's plan was accomplished. All he needed was the children of Elm Street to remember him for him to be resurrected. He got rid of Jason and anyone who would stand in his way. He takes the Necronomicon and many other artifacts. I'd like to fit more characters, like Chucky. It's a bit difficult to incorporate him. He would be reduced to be a cameo or brief mention. That would be something I want to see. Starring Jamie Lee Curtis and Bruce Campbell with some familiar franchise faces. It's called Jason V Freddy: Deadraiser... or Halloween- All Deadites Must Die... or Jason Triumphant: Nightmare's End... or Plight of the Woke-Tagonists. Some mix or amalgam of those titles. I'm going to copy paste this until they make it into a movie.

I was annoyed with Riley in some ways, cause she was responsible for getting her friends killed other than the white guy who influences her also. She kind of reminded me of Alia Shawcat. And that slightly irritated me, cause all I can think of her from is search party, and she's mad annoying in that lol. Besides that the leading lady is gorgeous. She has a unique look to her. And, I looked up the Lament configuration. Where there is like a billion, that are apart of the whole leviathan. So, I really liked that correlation of light and dark. And Indicating everything connects in life. She chose to use her intelligence, and not accept any illusions from them. And, that's also apart of their process, based on her choice; to leave her alone.

I liked Riley more than Frank and Julia. 2.5 agreed. The best part of the new film were the sets and the character design of the Cenobites. I liked how Roland became androgynous as he was inducted into the Order of the Gash.

Nice review. Protagonist is not likable and things just happen to her. Seems like a fundamental film error. The protagonist in the original, the daughter, is likeable and takes action.

I've been a fan of this series since the first one in 1987. Its to bad that they didn't have a character like Kirsty from the first two movies and Hell Raiser Hell Seeker. I think the pinhead character is supposed to be non-binary from the book. I look forward to seeing it.

I fell asleep by the 3rd act... this wasn't scary as much as annoying that the addict sister was leading mad people to their death.

it wasn't bad....I feel like it was missing something I just couldn't put my finger in it... I still enjoyed it though... Now if they keep the main actress and make some more movies with her battling the Cenobites... that would make this into something she was a perfect casting! because she was so tutored in life, Keep making these videos

Ronald gets the opportunity to switch his choice. But Pinhead knew any choice he chooses would be damning that is why they allowed it. And because Riley offers the last person that is why she gets to make a choice.

movie itself while a bit too soft/clean to go next to the first two original movie, is still better than any that followed. that being said, Jamie Clayton is freakin' amazing in it. i thought i would downright hate pinhead being recast, but damn, as much as it pain me to say it, i actually prefer her to Doug Bradley in the role now :x she look vicious in the best possible way, hands down the best portrayed female vilain in probably decades (yes, she's THAT f'ing good)

Interesting. In the Books of Blood - Clive writes that the Hell Priest is niether male or female, but andogynous - Pin Head was born because folks loved Doug Bradley in the first couple of films. Sounds like the vibe they created with this Hell Priest worked. I love the first two films - Clive directed those.. I was interested in this because this director, directed The Ritual (which I loved) Yikes - the girl/woman in the first two films (The daughter) was the person we wanted to survive. ?? I think her name was Riley too.

Gave this movie a try last night... could not get far because of Riley...I didn't like her character at all and was already annoyed with her from GO. I want to say I didn't like the actress' performance either but then if her character was meant to be grating as you pointed out, maybe she did a good job. But yeah I wanted her dead like very soon. I liked her brother more too and wish he had been the main protag instead. Such a shame, I really wanted to like at least one of the Hellraiser movies...maybe next time....

That was quick. Thanks for the spoilers. So, just checking but there's six people who did the configurations. Millionaire guy the young man (gay bar suit) The brother The female roommate (?) ??? Trevor the boyfriend? Riley Only Riley escaped unscathed and the other five are tormented in Cenobite world?
@JekyViews
@JekyViews Год назад
There’s two more, they mention one of them. The first after the brother, the one that puts Riley and Trevor on the trail to the mansion, is the lawyer that worked for the billionaire and picked up the cube for him in Serbia. They also stab a cenobite, and it actually counts as a sacrifice.

Frank was so amazing from the original movie/book. Riley is no Frank and neither if Voight. I HATED Riley and what she put her friends and family through. Selfish junky.

I saw the trailer to this, and got hopeful. Plus if there's a character I'm supposed to feel for, but really can't stand the performance and hoping they'll die as soon as possible? Not worth my precious time nor brain cells.

I prefer this over anything after 4 to be real. And it’s less cheesier than 3/4 so I’d say it’s top 3 for me. This is exactly the type of movie I’d expect with Dave Bruckner at the helm. I don’t know why people are surprised or mad.
