To support our colleagues in difficult times of war, USAVA organised and conducted a "Mini-Grant for Good Deeds" for the Ukrainian veterinary community. We received many interesting and important proposals. From the purchase of biochemical analysers to a clinic on wheels.
The best projects among almost four dozen proposals were selected by experienced veterinary colleagues. It turned out to be quite difficult.
"The priority was that the charitable idea should relate to veterinarians, that they should be involved in this grant. Secondly, it had to be a socially important project and be intended for those who really need help. And also, that the grant could be implemented within a short time," said veterinarian Anna Kondratieva, a member of the competition jury.
Among the winners is veterinarian Volodymyr Melnyk, a veteran of the Russian-Ukrainian war, who received a medical surgical drill for operations. It was his work that helped him recover from his injury and brought him back to life.
In addition, our colleague helps stray animals and provides free services to military animals. So we decided to help him in this important work!
Poltava State Agrarian University received almost UAH 30 thousand to purchase an interactive whiteboard. After all, education has always been and remains a priority for USAVA, especially during the war.
We also supported the Helping Hand for Military Animals project and helped to set up a hospital for animal rescue in the frontline Orlivka region. The veterinary clinic has now been renovated, and USAVA has purchased equipment for the animals undergoing surgery under the terms of a microgrant. The cost of this project is over UAH 50 thousand.
The fourth grant was aimed at helping horses evacuated from the hottest regions of Ukraine: Donetsk, Luhansk, and Mykolaiv regions. There are also horses from destroyed stables near Kyiv. These animals are now in the Rivne region. Under the terms of the microgrant, treatment and hygiene procedures for 18 horses were funded.
USAVA implemented all these projects thanks to the financial support of the American Veterinary Medical Foundation (AVMF). But this is just the beginning. We continue to implement the ideas of our colleagues. New projects and a new microgrant competition will be announced soon!
