The Photoshop Color Picker contains multiple color modes with each of these modes (including HSB, RGB and Lab) containing three attributes. Photoshop defaults to the H (Hue) attribute of the HSB (Hue, Saturation, Brightness) color mode. This gives a large color square made of Saturation and Brightness values while the vertical bar is comprised of the rainbow colors that make up Hue. This color setup will look dramatically different if anything other that the H attribute is selected. Simply select H to return the display to its default look. The selected value is also "sticky" which means that Photoshop will remember the currently chosen attribute the next time the Color Picker is opened.
