[Helping Hand #40] "Flowering Rain" by clWinter // Review 

Welcome to the new series on my channel, in which I will look at and review some overlooked or unrated levels, with the goal of helping the creators in getting them rated in the end.

I got this requested to me on Discord again and I am always surprised about how many creators have a ton of talent eventhough I have barely heard of them before. This is another great example, as this project looks fantastic and already received its well deserved epic rate some days ago.
The decoration in this is featuring the more realistic, art based style that has gotten more and more popular recently. I am usually not the biggest fan over it, because it tends to get really messy for me a lot of times, but I think this level does a really good job using it, without making it feel overwhelming. There is still really nice attention to detail and variety in designs, with a lot of different environments being present in the level, which are all fitting and very well executed in my opinion. I will say though, that I think the first half of the level is overall higher quality than the second. For me some later parts fell into the very messy and unorganized spectrum this style has for me. Trying to keep the quality consistent is really the most important thing in a level like this, so I would have liked the second half to be around the same quality as the first parts, which are really, really good in my opinion. A little bit less object density would have worked really well here I think personally.
Gameplay wise the level suffers a bit from being an art level in my opinion. The overall gameplay is fun, but it is pretty unclear and takes a while to learn, which some people might dislike, considering it is supposed to be an Easy Demon. Once learned it is really fun though, as well as pretty well balanced, which I like. I wasn't the biggest fan of some of the zooms, but they aren't hurting the gameplay too much, but I would recommend looking into them again anyway. Other than that I only found some transitions a bit sudden, but the player is expected to learn the level due to its difficulty, so I think it is nothing that should be judged too harsh here.
Overall I had a really good time with the level. I liked the visuals, they work together with the song really well and, even though it is a style I am not the biggest fan of, I love how cohesive the whole project is. I still think it falls off a bit in the second half, but it is still a really, really good looking level as a whole. The epic rate it received is for sure justified in my opinion, even if I don't know if I would have sent it for this myself personally. I do think the more messy second half and some of the really hard to read gameplay would have made me send this for a feature rating instead. Nonetheless I am very much looking forward to what clWinter releases next, as I am sure it is gonna be even better than this project. Well done!
