[Helping Hand #50] "DreamForge" by Wistromz // Review 

Welcome to the new series on my channel, in which I will look at and review some overlooked or unrated levels, with the goal of helping the creators in getting them rated in the end.

We have come a long way with this series, with this being the 50th episode already. For this little milestone I picked out one of my favorite unrated levels as of recently, which I found some while ago in a level request stream with a friend of mine.
I haven't really heard anything about Wistromz before this, but the quality this project has visually is amazing in my opinion. It features nice, clean designs with an overall rainbow theme and very tasteful use of shaders and colors, even if some of them do feel a bit washed out in parts. The overall visuals aren't anything super complex, but I think everything works incredibly well together, especially together with the song. I would have maybe turned down the blur shader a bit, I think it could have worked a bit better if it wasn't active throughout the whole level. What is really nice in my opinion though is the fact that the level is able to feel fresh with each part, even if its color palette never changes. It does that by changing up its designs and effects between every part. Especially the last part is the one I enjoyed the most, I really loved how it looked.
Gameplay wise the level was also fun and works even better with the song than the visual aspects of the level. Everything is super well synced and flows really nicely. Especially the dual at 0:33 was super satisfying to pull off. I am a big fan of the gameplay overall, which is super nice to see from a level that already has really nice visual qualities. Only thing I would like to critizise a bit is the dual again, as it felt a bit more difficult than the rest. The whole level tends to get a bit harder as it goes on, which I don't think is a big problem, but still worth mentioning for sure.
With all that said I am really surprised that I have never heard of Wistromz before this level. The visuals are really nice, the colors are a bit washed out at times but still feel super well thought out and the gameplay is fun and satisfying. Some second thoughts about the shader usage and the level would have been even better in my opinion. If I was a mod I would give this a feature rating for sure, maybe even epic, if some of the visual flaws were improved upon. Nonetheless, the level is a great overall project and I am really looking forward to see what Wistromz is cooking up next.
