Yes I know I missed the actual 3rd exchange, somehow I managed to miss it while recording but it was not super consequential.

Great work, these are very informative and I would love to see more breakdowns of high level fights! These kind of videos are a huge help to the community, especially for those of us on the outer edges, please keep it up.

Lol I love that you chose this match to review. When I saw this match it instantly became one of my top 5 favorite matches I’ve ever seen, it’s been a while since I felt this way when watching a bout (not that I don’t love watching hema, but I basically looked exactly like those guys in the background while watching). I’m glad Olbrychski pulled through, I was initially rooting for him but he got SCREWED hard by the judges and didn’t let it effect him

In which exchanges do you consider he got screwed by the judges ?

@@frenchgalloglass5204 The one handed thrust Ville threw gave him 2 points. It was clear at full speed that it missed, but here in slow mo you can clearly see how far off it was. On the stream you can also see Ville’s reaction that he did not agree with the call and knew he missed. The other bad call was on the first thrust Antoni attempted that resulted in him getting riposted to the head. That thrust hit and you can see Ville’s hood shift a good amount from it (though not as much as the clean thrust Antoni threw immediately after), the call should’ve been 3-3=0. They gave Ville 5 free points

@@chandlerbrown3172 I see, well spotted. On the other hand, at 8h50 in this video, Ville's afterblow was definitely in tempo and landed on the head, but they still gave the full points to Antoni's thrust. Overall, they should have removed 5 points from Ville from the 2 exchanges you mentioned and 3 from Antoni from the exchange I mentioned. So overall the end result would still be Antoni's victory

@@frenchgalloglass5204 I personally think it’s 50/50 on whether that afterblow gets called. It’s definitely on there, but it lost alot of force and became kindof a lay on without any slicing structure. That’s one that’s up to the judges and what they consider valid. I think it’s a tossup, but the judge did see it and mentioned he thought it wasn’t enough

@@frenchgalloglass5204 That afterblow is not in time based on the timing conventions they were using at this tournament. In order to count, the "afterblow" had to be the same action, this particular action is an attempted parry riposte, so the action of left that happened during the hit was the attempted parry, and the riposte was the next action. The timing was very tight compared to other afterblow tournaments.

6:11 straight out of the masters' playbook -- if you _know_ someone will play against your sword, feint or change through (pretty much the only time changing through is a safe option)
