I fish this lake every so often. Your dominant species (in numbers) in the lake is yellow perch. Top of the food chain (in size and numbers) is definitely pickerel. There are bass in here, but more likely to encounter a large pickerel.
@Chrystian Ciccarello For pickerel? In general Ive caught them on just about anything in my bag.. my personal preference is a wacky rigged plastic worm or senko. In this lake, its one of the few lakes you can throw a spinner bait and not catch a ton of weeds.. worth a shot.
Hey man just saw this video, lmk when your on Long Island I'm new to bass fishing, I've fished ocean fishing since I was a baby I would love some advice and tips on how to get into this fresh water stuff
I fish this lake a lot and Large Pickerel are definitely there. I caught 3 the smallest was 23". That lake also has a tremendous amount of Perch as well
Hey Michael do you mind telling me what lure you used to catch the pickerel at hempstead? I went two times with crankbaits and flukes in late summer and did not get any hits. I want to pick up some info from someone who has experienced success in this lake what lure, the retrieve style maybe time of year? Any info would be appreciated and thanks for taking the time to read this.
I've caught my largest bass in this big lake a week ago I'd say at 5.5 pounds I've got the video on my channel proving it. I'd love to do a meet up and do some fishing with you if your ever back in the area.
