This fucking guy was great! Could you imagine calling Jerry Seinfeld up and having him at your wedding anniversary for 5k, not likely. I read somewhere that if he was staying at a hotel he would go to see if any wedding or parties were going on at the banquet halls and talk who was giving the party and see if they wanted to pay him to preform.
Henny Youngman was a brilliant comedian. So fast, so smart, so side-splitting funny. If you want to see him kill, watch his segment on that Friars Club Roast of Don Rickles.
A man is telling another fellow the sad story of his life. He was married three times and each marriage ended tragically. His first wife died from eating poisoned mushrooms. Then his second wife died from poisoned mushrooms. "Wow, that's terrible," says the other fellow, "Did she die from poisoned mushrooms too?" "No, she died from a brain concussion," said the man. Kinda sad when they get old and neither the host or the audience really understand how big this guy was at one time. Happens to a lot of them, I guess.
For our Anniversary my wife wanted to go some place where she never went. I said how about the kitchen! 🤣 Take my wife....PLEASE! Loved *Henny Youngman* ! He was indeed the KING 👑 of one liners, and *Steven Wright* the 2nd best one liner!
@@myhatmygandhi6217 In case you're serious.. it's about the place being so rough you had to have a criminal record to work there. Instead of the boss wishing you good night, he stabs you good night. Because it's such a rough neighbourhood. One liners have to be part of a roll. You build up the audience with something light, silly, not all that funny. Then tell a joke like the Schneider etc one. Then you pepper them with fast one liners that on their own aren't funny, but the skill of the comedian, like Henny or Rodney, with their incredible timing and voice will often send you into uncontrollable hysterics. After Henny gets a bit warmed up he'll pick up the fiddle and start butchering an old song called "Smoke gets in your eyes". That gets me started like nothing I've ever heard. That's when he machine guns you with one liners with no mercy. He really and truly was the King of One Liners.

I don't think so, I think Dave really knows how special this guy is, but it's also such a clash of generations. What made David Letterman connect in the '80's was just not even on the menu for great vaudeville comics like Henny. Those guys were hardcore, polished, professionals who did the same act for decades but didn't have any armor for casual sarcasm or absurdist irony. That just wasn't part of their vocabulary. I feel like respect for them has only grown since the passing of their generation but, at the time of this clip, some of them were still working Vegas and young VS. "ancient" was still at play.
Henny is well known as one of the biggest assholes in history. He harrassed and bummed money off of people and stabbed anyone in the back who was closest. Dave is known for his generosity, I myself am a recipiant of his kindness. maybe why Dave is cold.
