I stopped playing gw years ago. There are better Wargames to play and i didn't like their direction. I think most people are not upset at the lore change itself. It's how it was lazily implemented. People like 40k for the deep and interesting lore, so any changes or retcons should of been just as deep or interesting. I'm reading fans write up better ways for female custodies than what GW did

They had to make a woman be Custode NOT because "Sisters of Battle are too religious", because THEY'RE ALL RELIGIOUS. What it is is they can't stand there being something that's male only. That drives them NUTS. They HAAAATE that, so they gotta change it.
The sad thing is that they could have just said 'now' there can be female Custodes (instead of 'always'). Cawl could have just 'found a way', and it wouldn't violate Lore. Problem solved. As a writer, it is infuriating when executives act like the very Lore that made a franchise what it is, isn't important, and they can just change things as they wish (as if no one will notice or care). They never grasp that the Lore IS the story that binds the whole franchise together. Without the Lore, the franchise is nothing, and no one will retain any interest...
Female custodes doesn't really bother me but I know they will push for female space marines whitch will make no sense do to how they are make. Custodes are hand crafted humans so sure you can probably make a female one. But space marines are basically half clones they require a male becuase the gene seed originates from a male.
Custodes are not space marines it would be an insult to the emperor if Cawl could do what he couldn’t and no important character is gonna become female it litteraly just a change of pronouns for a little minority of custodes and custodes have often been reffed to in gender neutral ways

Again, the easy fix was to say there can be female Custodes 'now'. That way, everybody gets what they want. I don't have a problem with there being female Custodes, I have a problem with companies who have nothing to with the creative side of things deciding that they want to change Lore. Amazon also said they don't like the Sisters of Silence because they don't speak, and the Sisters of Battle because they're 'too religious'. Did they not do any research on the Warhammer 40K storyline at all before getting into this? So, while you may get a few female Custodes, you lose out on 2 factions dominated by females. I'd call that a loss... :(

They're the first and often last line of defense for the Imperium and do the brunt of ALL the work in its defense. For 10,000 years they've been Player #1 to stop demons, aliens, and other human factions. DESPITE being normal humans, they're the heavy lifters. It takes millions of them to do the work, and many won't make it, and they do it anyway. No matter the reason -- that's fucking badass. No clue what you mean aby "play faithfully into the faction." Custodes being female isnt an issue in the abstract since there is no reason they can’t be unlike the space marines (because of gene seed). The problem is how the lore was implemented. They could have had Cawl come up with a way to make female custodes and it would’ve been totally chill
The RU-vidr majorkill came up with a pretty good explanation át least for me. Basically women can become custodians but their failure rate is éven higher than the male candidates so there is much less female custodians than male ones. The reason for not seeing them until now is because the process turns them really masculin so if they wear a helmet,cut their hair őr something like that they would indistingshuable from their male counterpart
The real issue is what's next? Female custodies could be the start of a flood of DEI changes that will destroy the setting. Maybe a female primarch? Just make guilliman a woman, it's fine. Female Valdor? Female malcador? Female emperor?? What was the slogan for modern star wars, "the force is female". I guarantee if we let them they will do the same for 40k.
Imagine being someone trying to enjoy a fictional universe. Tourists insert themselves into said space, start changing it. Then when you say anything you are the threat and the enemy. Predominately male spaces, women enjoy these fictional universes too but it’s a space where guys can escape the grindstone that is the modern world. Stories of Brothers fighting against insurmountable odds and sacrificing everything for what they believe in. Stories that inspire you and make you ask questions of morality. People used to look at fictional characters and aspire to try emulate their resolve and ideals. The hero’s journey made manifest. Not anymore. It’s a sad state of affairs.

When was the last time Hollywood made a movie that respected Christianity as a net positive? I feel like there is numerous aspects that all have their own religion. Too water that stuff down causes catastrophic changes to multiple pieces of really good lore and story. it's not some random niche aspect you can tweak whenever you feel like it. especially if you're doing it in complete disregard like they are doing because some factions that have religion quite literally also get their power through faith and devotion etc.

I have less problems with female Custodes than female Astartes. The Custodes are the Emperor's Companions, loyal and incorruptible, deprived of anything that could impede their capacity to serve and obey his will, whereas the Astartes are tools to be discarded once done with them. To clarify, the Custodes don't have the ability to breed because they don't need it and you don't have to worry about them trying to find a way to. Their gender, as long as they are a peak of competence and as easily made as a Custodes can be made, could be irrelevent. Astartes can be corrupted, have their own plans and ambitions. If you introduced female Astartes, some Space Marines would try to find a way to reproduce/escape sterilisation and they would supplant the human race, which was not in the Emperor plan.

As soon as I learned Amazon was involved my heart dropped. I honestly wish that they had never tried to adapt 40k. Amazon saying "SOB are too religious" sums it all up. Pretty much the same. I can think of a single instance where I saw something woke and still said that overall it was good. The woke part was still immersion breaking though. Most of the time though, the woke part comes at the cost of quality, and so I get some garbage trying to preach BS political views at me. Not worth wasting my time, so I simply avoid it.

That’s a good way of putting it. They had every opportunity to make women included in a lore-friendly way, but opted for the most disruptive way of doing it for multiple reasons. It’s the same thing that I and a lot of people have said about multiple franchises: I don’t want people to feel excluded, just don’t make a poorly written, poorly planned retcon as the solution.

Sisters of Silence are Females that can keep up with Custodes due to their discipline, training and pure badassery. GW should've expanded their lore and made the focus on the fact they are females who can do everything their male counterparts can do without the need for being enhanced. Technically thats makes them better but that wasnt enough for the tourists and activists.
It actually fits with their regular modus operandi. They always ignore the real strong women (Ellen Ripley, Sarah Connor and so many more lesser known ones) in media (and reality too) and only push artificial ones, that need so much help from in-universe tech or magic etc. and out-universe plot help, that a toddler could beat the big bad with that much assistance. So ignoring the relatively mundane women which got to where they are by their own efforts, for ones that got just handed everything comes as no surprise whatsoever.

I've only watched the first 2 seasons of the Witcher, but even in the 2nd one he wasn't a lead actor based on screen time. Only netflix is able to make a show about witcher and not show witcher and instead push agenda for people who don't even watch the show.

Galadriel is mega nerfed in the series... Canon Galadriel is the strongest elf since Feanor and Glorfindel (and possible stronger), she made an entire orc army run for the hills, held off Sauron through the sheer power of will and even the Maiars dont understand just how much power she possess. If the writers didn't tone her down she would have soloed everything in the show.
