Hi mate a quickie but a goodie, I never knew about the designer of Elizabeth Henry Smith he obviously was a man of great vision thinking about how Elizabeth would expand in the future and planning to cope with it. Unfortunately the problem seems to be that the next generation of council members who love to change things and put there own stamp on it without doing the homework to find out what there changes would do down the track. A common trait of todays politicians unfortunately. Great job mate.👍🏻

Yes Henry Smith reminds me of the old Greek proverb: “A society grows great when old men plant trees in whose shade they shall never sit.” - it is a shame the 'leaders' who came after him dropped the ball so badly, going so far as to actually undo much of his good work. Yes. Poor Henry Smith would be livid. Every wish and all the effort of Thomas Playford, Henry Smith and all the "founding Father's" such as Alex Ramsay just ignored and disregarded. It's very sad.
There is lots of open space in where Midway Road meets Main North Rd in Elizabeth East, but now I see they used up one the ovals to build Playford Tennis Centre, and sadly what was my Grandparents house, is now half a house, lost their huge backyard to a new house.
Grew up on Flower Street as a child in the early 70's... Returned to the UK age 7. Until recent events (that RU-vid censors comments on), I always wished I would have stayed in South OZ. But it appears to be 'governed' by puppets. Thank you for the videos of better times, Henry Smith would not get a look in nowadays.

Great memories come flooding back when seeing some of those pictures of the Elizabeth City Centre location and surroundings. In my opinion Elizabeth is not as nice as it was back then as far as its layout and development that has happened since the Playford vision.
