I think Gareth Russell is becoming my favourite Tudor historian! His passion and empathy are extraordinary tools, in crafting together these fascinating historical figures stories!

I love Gareth! He first did a show on YT about Anne Boleyn and was so modest, he said he was just doing this because of the quarantine. Had a suspicion (the way he talked) that he had to have degrees or written a thesis at least on the Tudor wives! Gareth talks about Anne like he’s just talking about her to you personally. Very self-deprecating about how well educated he is! Now I find out that Gareth is a Scholar!! He even answers you personally (his channel is so new still). So GREAT to know that He Is truly educated in the Tudor period! The way he puts his “lecture” it’s like he’s just giving his personal feelings but who knew he’s a Scholar. Congrats to getting him on your show! He definitely is wonderful. Please sub to his YT channel! It’s new but EXCELLENT! Thanks for getting Garett’s channel out there. The first YT CHANNEL out there that KNOWS HIS STUFF and doesn’t give ALL his scholarly knowledge!!!! Thank you! 👍🏽

💯 agreed! I just discovered him, and his research and understanding is refreshing! I also really like Kat, she’s on YT as well, but I can’t remember her last name!😅 I’ll have to look it up, but her talk on Ann of Cleves was fascinating! Edit: She’s Dr. Kat, and the channel is “Reading the Past”.

@@bgoodnow I love Dr Kat’s YT channel as well! Dr Kat and 2 other ladies do a Tudor- podcast after dark on Instagram live. It’s great as well. If you look up Kat Marchant, and sub on IG, it will alert you to their nightly podcast. It’s nights for me as I’m in the US. I think you’ll like it as well! 👍🏼👍🏼

Thank you so much for spelling her name correctly in your description. "Katheryn" is the only spelling (that we know of) that she ever used for herself.

I've read the book, which is excellent as is "Katherine Howard: A new History". I wish this could've been longer.

I was surprised how America-centric was the author's Titanic book, being that he is Irish/British. The Countess of Rothes and Thomas Andrews (the Titanic's chief engineer) feature well enough, but it seemed like the book was mostly filled with Americans - the actress whose name I can't recall, the teenaged son of a moneyed Philadelphia couple whose name I can't recall, Isidor Straus (the First Class passenger whose wife remained with him on the ship).

I was the exact opposite! I always loved Kathrine, even though “The Tudors” were wildly inaccurate, with many aspects of her early life! One thing that worked for me was the actresses performance! She didn’t play her as a hapless victim, but as a young woman, with agency and full of life, trying to traverse an impossible situation! I have similar feelings about Ann Boleyn!

@UCW0k1XMcpXO6jRTx9UBLppQ yes! I think she is very interesting! Her family history which the show botched was fascinating! I want to read Gareth Russell’s book, because he gets to the good stuff, that the fictional history we watch on TV can’t communicate!🤷‍♀️
