Just hypothetically speaking 🗣️ 💖, of course.😍 Also, it's possible, probable even , that you're sometimes too harsh and/or particular in assessing Beth?? Go listen to The Warning's Paulina Villarreal Velez sing *23,* Live at Teatro Metropolitan CDMX on 08/29/2022. See if you don't hear bits of Karen Carpenter and Linda Ronstadt in her voice. Pau is a drummer, and she's a bilingual Mexican singer-songwriter-composer. After *23,* listen to *Revenant* from the same show, and then find her solo rendition of RadioHead's *Creep,* filmed in black-and-white on an out-of-tune piano with an iPhone. It's raw, real, and gut-wrenchingly emotional.

This is the most beautiful voice on the planet. Linda Ronstadt is an American treasure. She definitely had a natural gift but she also worked very hard at creating the very best sound she could make. I first heard Linda Ronstadt in 1970, she had already recorded "Different Drum" with The Stone Pony's, and just recorded "Long Long Time" (one of my favorites, if that is at all possible). The first thought that ran trough my head was just how good she was, and then thinking "this girl is going to be a huge star" (my one and only prediction that came true). She was only mildly known at the time. As time passed I continued to listen to her music and fell in love with her. I guess like most guy's at the time, if they knew who Linda was, they were in love with her. I know there is some Willie Nelson quote regarding this, but that came later. In November of 1976, I finally got the chance to see her in concert, at the Universal Amphitheater in Los Angeles. I remember hearing that she was going to perform there and asked my friends if they would like to go. I got laughed at, as they commented ... "are you kidding Linda Ronstadt, fu*k no"; these guys were all hard rockers. Well my response was for all of them to go fu*k themselves, and I went to the concert alone. By the way, the best concert I've ever been to, no flash pyrotechnics, no rhythmic dancing, no over-the-top drama, just a great band with the best singer I have ever heard, making beautiful music. Just a joy to my ears! Sadly, I have never had a chance to see her a second time, but her voice has been an integral part of my life, and will continue to be. So you see, if I come across a little or alot biased, well, it's because I am! I know that many DON'T share this opinion, there are also many that DO ... but I believe that she is the GREATEST SINGER. I can't say of all time because, all time has not passed, but too me, she is! I will continue to joyfully listen to her music, and hope that she recovers, (perhaps a new cure will emerge). On a sad and happy note, the fact that she's afflicted with such a condition just breaks my heart, but we can all be so grateful that she has left us such large and eclectic catalog of music. We are all winners to benefit from her immense talent! Linda ... you are the GREATEST !

Yes! I love everything she has ever sung, but the stuff she did with Nelson Riddle, on many of those songs, she sings quietly, but when the emotion of the song demands it, she instantly opens up and this amazing voice just fills the space. I saw her perform that music with a full symphony orchestra back in the late 80s or early 90s, sitting about 4 rows back, and she was just amazing.

Linda's liberal politics, Mexican roots, and counter-culture friends probably didn't sit well with the Nashville establishment. She was a free spirit, more in tune with the L.A. scene, socially, than with image conscious Nashville in the '70s and '80s. Their loss… But in the end, she didn't need them. She made her mark across many genres.

When The Eagels sing this song it feels like we are listening to the titular Desperado lamenting his life and becoming resigned to his choices. When Linda sings it, it feels like we are listening to a woman who is desperately in love with the Desperado and is trying to show him that it's not too late to change. Imagine a strong beautiful woman (which Linda certainly is!) sitting you down and giving you a piece of her mind, including the occasional sob or outburst. Both versions are incredibly powerful, and the slight difference in perspective has an outsized effect on the overall feeling of the song.

linda was not known for song writing, but she was one of the best interpreters of song anywhere - this is a perfect example.

I love seeing how you enjoy this so much. I grew up as a young teenager listening on my headphones to her records. It put me in another world to listen to her voice. ❤

The Eagles felt the same about Linda, she was instrumental in their creation.

Such a beautiful voice and a timeless talent. She transcends genres. Listen/react to "Poor Wandering One" from Pirates of Penzance for a gorgeous display of her Opera range. The Eagles were at their peak when I was in high school. I always thought was amazing that a Country-Western band made such a big splash in rock music. Their version of this song is even more Country than Linda's.

Ronstadt grew up with music but had no formal training until later in her life when she turned her talent to light opera. She was always a disciplined artist with a versatile and powerful instrument. Even when she was making hits, I don’t think people really understood how skillful a singer she was. She was so natural, you could relate to the emotion and take the gorgeous tone for granted.

Linda didn't need a Microphone. My ex and I in our misspent youth saw her in Berkeley at the Greek Theater about the time of this recording. We were on the knoll behind the seating area with a fantastic view of her and the stage. And even though we were probably 100 to 130 ft from the stage she at time's out sung the instruments and that wasn't because of her microphone. The general acoustics were exceptional. We all love her we all miss her and we are all thankful we had her. ❤

Linda didn't mess around. She just stepped right up to the microphone and blew people away.

You have commented on her multiple style of singing but I have one I bet you have never heard. Linda sang "backup" on a friends album. That was Maria Muldaur and the album was "Waitress in the Donut Shop" and the song is "Gringo En Mexico". The album was released in 1974 and several songs got extensive airplay from it. I think you would love the whole album.

The same can be said for her work on the two Trio albums with Parton, and Harris. She refrained from doing the lead on most of the songs. Additionally, she was a great partner in her many duets, never trying to out sing the other vocalist.

Oh, hell, yeah, I LOVED that album. Maria got heavy airplay on our college radio station that year. Thanks for reminding me of it. I just played that song for the first time in 50 years!

She puts her "heart on her sleeve" with this performance. She keeps warning her mate/best friend not to wait too long for someone, or that someone won't be there when you stop. It felt to me at the end, when she was singing slower, like she was saying it might already be too late. You can see why a lot of us back in the day had a crush on her.

I think Linda’s first manager John Boylan said it all. John said “Linda, the voice that filled the room”. Kind of says everything about Ms. Ronstadt’s vocal talent. One of the best female singers of all time.

It is so heart-breaking that Linda became ill and can't really perform anymore. From what I understand, she LOVED singing. IMHO, she is probably one of the top 5 vocalists ever! Such a lovely human being! (And, cute as a button too!)

Shes an American treasure. Sadly her voice has been silenced by illness but her catalog is huge. One of my favorites is "la Charreada" and i dont speak a word of socially acceptable spanish.

Two comments: Linda has the best vibrato of any singer. It’s not overdone, and it’s not underdone. And YOU, when you repeat a word or phrase…. It’s like someone is playing a tape recording of that word or phrase. You just NAIL it. Wow!

Being a somewhat nerdy compiler of musical lists, I place Linda Ronstadt in my top ten artists/bands of all time - the only one in that list who was not a prolific songwriter. Her interpretation of other artists' songs is second to none and her voice was as good as it gets. Loved her since first hearing Different Drum - and that was before I even knew how drop-dead gorgeous she was.

Linda is a phenom, for sure. The technique and emotional availability is so rare. Another vocalist you might consider in this category is Jennifer Warnes. In particular, her album, "Famous Blue Raincoat--The Songs of Leonard Cohen" is a spectacular showcase.
