In this video, I react for the first time to Carpenters performing “Superstar”. I analyze Karen Carpenter's amazing performance, explain and demonstrate her vocal techniques and I'll tell you what I think made it so great. The Carpenters are arguably the most classy band ever to grace the earth, spinning musical silk. I am SO happy I got to react and analyse this for you. Daphne loves their music, it makes her relax!

I’d say Karen was more of a genius if she had studied piano I’m sure she could be at her brother’s level if not more but her mother wouldn’t let her shine where her brother shined because she’s the scapegoat child and he was the golden child. Not just she’s a perfect pitch singer she’s a great drummer too and played guitar as well. The record label initially just wanted her to be a soloist but their narcissist mother didn’t approve of it as she was just a minor at that time. She only approved if her son would be given a deal too. She was the caused why she developed anorexia. That’s the only thing she had a control in her life and she got carried away. Agnes thought her son was more or was loved by the people like Karen but no. When Karen died Richard career also died.

She doesn't have quite the depth and richness of Karen's lower register (no one ever will), but she is close. And the band that Leonid has put together is top tier pro level. Oboe, french horns, strings, harp and acoustic guitar accompany a horn section and a rhythm section as good as the best in the world.

The Carpenters, officially known as Carpenters,[a] were an American vocal and instrumental duo consisting of siblings Karen (1950-1983) and Richard Carpenter (born 1946). They produced a distinctive soft musical style, combining Karen's contralto vocals with Richard's harmonizing, arranging, and composition skills. During their 14-year career, the Carpenters recorded 10 albums along with many singles and several television specials.

So many more songs from the Carpenters for you to explore. I sincerely hope you do. There is a reason why so many in the music industry agree that Karen had the best voice of all time. She was a once in a generation (maybe several generations) talent. And gone far too soon. Her voice is like a warm hug that embraces the soul. May I suggest listening to their song Sing? Such a fun, lyrically uplifting song, not to mention the glorious instrumental accompaniment.

Karen is as you describe. Once in a creation I say. There’s something so powerful and simultaneously so soothing about Karen Carpenter’s voice. What a gift.

Their is such a haunting, melancholy beauty and also purity to her voice. Truly, an angelic voice and a timeless one for the ages. Tears well up every time I listen to her voice, it touches my soul and spirit like no singer ever has. Ever. A once in a lifetime, generational talent.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

My goal is to find a place in more conversations to use the "Bloody hell" phrase. Although I don't think it would be as endearing as when you use it 🤗 That was an incredible breakdown. Super job.

Fascinating video, you are the best I have seen so far breaking down "Superstar" and Miss Carpenters vocals. Please breakdown Rainy Days and Mondays, and I Need To Be In Love by the Carpenters. All three songs mention where Miss Carpenters favorites. Also As you know Miss Carpenter was never taught or took lessons how to sing. How could this be possible??? Or was she an angel sent to the earth from heaven with those singing qualities???? Is Daphne your precious dog, if so play Superstar for her.

Nice reaction, it's nice to see someone acknowledge Richard Carpenter's genius as a musician and producer. His arrangements, instrument choices and pairings were had a lot to do with Karen's success.

Here WE go mother, this lady was such a wonderful and accomplished singer. Karen had a rock solid vocal range with great timber and wonderful skill.... This arrangement is wonderful. It is SO beautiful... Richard, worked up this arrangement.. I have read comments that refer to this lovely lady -- "One Take Karen". They said she would nail it first time. PERFECT!!! SKILL !!!!!!!!! Take care and have a great 2024!!!!!

You are not an ugly oboe. You are a beautiful Fairy Voice Mother. And we very much appreciate that. Even before considering your extraordinary vocal analyses.

If you sing in a band you should at least do 1 cover of the Carpenters as you have been the only person I have heard that could do justice to Karen’s vocal. Cheers.

Karen has the most beautiful voice I've ever heard. Period. It's deeper than most female singers, yet still feminine. Exquisite. You did a very good impression of her. Impressive. Are you aware that Karen also plays the drums? She referred to herself as a drummer who also sings. That's a very modest thing to say, but not very accurate. She'd have to play like Neil Peart or John Bonham to be even close to being as good a drummer as she is a singer.
