I can't believe that Dior dress that Jennifer Lawrence wore cost $4 million dollars; that's crazy. The dress that Paris Hilton wore is beautiful, from the lilac color to the gems and crystals sewn into it. The light blue silk chiffon dress worn by Diana is stunning, the way the material is draped & how it flows when she walks.

It was a combo of both, and for those that think that hand stitching shouldn’t be that expensive? You don’t own a hand stitched one of a kind dress. My mother was a seamstress, my Father a Taylor and my older sister a designer and the hours that are put in are a labor of love. It’s Artistry on display and the hands 🙌🏻 that make the creations.

I believe that the "million dollar" prices were greatly exaggerated. a) no one purchased them in the first place; b) designers, however famous/well known/rich would not or could not tie up that much of their capital in one dress.

These people rarely pay for those dresses themselves. They are either borrowed or gifted.

Fashion is a part of the Art World. I do agree with the Royals wearing gowns of high value, but I do not think it's necessary for Hollywood movie stars. Sometimes these dresses are sold and the profit goes to charity. Charity should, and probably does to a certain extent, play into this.

The gowns are worth that much. It doesn't mean the celebrities actually paid that much. Most of those dresses are probably worn at the Oscars are worn as a favor to the designer or for promotion. Homeless people are mostly folks who need mental help and we already dump a HUGE amount of tax money on that already. If the government in charge of handling those funds is corrupt (and believe me they are) I don't think it's up to dress designers to make up the difference.

It is really really bad craftsmanship that Jennifer Lawrence have to pull up, the front, in a couture dress from Dior. Royals in EU doesn't use stones, glitter and sequins on their wedding dresses, it looks tacky and cheap no matter the price of the gown.

Very few actors, socialites, millionaires and politicians help the homeless. If each of them opened their wallet and went out and helped people like Shaquille O'Neil the country would be better place possibly less homeless. There's a lot of homeless seniors because their social security checks are not enough to pay rent. Not all homeless are alcoholics or drug addicts. Show your mercy to them so God can show mercy to you.

More money than brains, to pay that much for a one day event. The cost is not in the best fabrics and the labor and craftsmanship , but for the designer’s name and maybe, to gain attention and glory for themselves, maybe just to try to outshine others. JMO
