I think that’s because there are so many eating disorders in Korea... sigh It seems like she knows there’s a problem and wants to change, she just doesn’t know how and needs help with the follow through. I wonder if the show or her fam might have set her up with a nutritionist and/or a personal trainer to help her through?
@douce7344

sighnicole for real i really wonder what the fuck is wrong with this audience. when it comes to other concerns they just give a lot of votes just for some attitude problems and when it comes to mental physical health they just don't try to think about how serious and blame the person. Like for the kid that didn't want to school that clearly had depression and was considered as lazy when she clearly had some issues at school and they believe the fake ass classmate. And the guy who attempted suicide because he couldn't be an actor or a singer and was labeled as obsessed and rude. They clearly dont see mental health problems, there are sociopaths, depressed, and bulimic people in this show and they dont fucking care and dont have enough knowledge about such important problems and tell them to adapt to society when how the fuck a person that has mental health problems can do this, this is just gonna ruin them mentally even more.

so much stigma attached to mental disorders in Korea but also they don't have stringent health privacy laws there. Employers will look at prospective employees health records before hiring and so any mental issues will be on their permanent record which hinder employment. That is another reason most do not seek psychiatric help.

jisol_11 I think it’s BED maybe, she doesn’t seem to purposefully purge, at least it’s not implied. She overeats and then her body can’t keep the food in so she may naturally be forced to puke. It depends on her international behind puking

Korea has among the highest, if not the highest, and fastest growing rates of eating disorders in the world. Korea also has an uncommonly high rate of eating disorders among men. It is becoming a problem of epidemic proportions, and it simply is not being discussed. (And a good example of the way it's often treated on the rare occasions when it actually is discussed is Sojung of Ladies Code. She admitted to struggling with an eating disorder, and the next day her management released footage of her eating pizza, like, "See, she's eating pizza! She's fine! All better!") I really hope someone in Korean media will take this up as a cause and get it the attention it deserves.

katie kawaii So true. And it all is linked to Korea's obssession over looks and their mentality that they can criticise anyone over looks. Even strangers. Her low selfesteem was all caused by ppl that surrounded her that told her she wasn't skinny enough. Sadly this isn't only Koreas problem but many other asian countries' too. I know, because I am asian myself. I grew in Europe and never had problem with my self esteem, "only" had to deal with racism, which decreased the older I got. But then I moved to my homecountry and lived there for 2 years and it was suffocating af. I lost my self esteem, started to develop stress and anxiety syndromes and lost my glow, all because ppl around me were so judgemental about looks and materialistic things like what kind of clothes you wear and etc. So glad I moved back to EU, cuz I wouldn't be able to live there without developing psychological problems.

@JukiIsCrazy I have to dispute your theory about Koreans do not know about Bulimia. How can you speak for 50 Million + people living in South Korea? There is psychiatrist In South Korea like any other nations in our planet earth. Don't be so ignorant if you gonna generalize I least have a irrefutable evidence that could support your claims. Let me ask you this?? Are you board certified psychiatrist in other word do you have the credentials?
@JukiIsCrazy
@JukiIsCrazy 8 лет назад
Een Co You are missing my point. I am not saying 50 million people are ignorant and do not know the word "bulimia." And I do realise one of the hosts said "anorexia," but in my opinion, he used it wrongly. She has bulimia (or prebulimia), not anorexia. And just look at the beauty standarts. And maybe watch some Halyu back videos about "being skinny" in Korea. I am not a psychiatrist. And I do not live in Korea nor I´m korean, so my opinion could be totally wrong. But that´s how I see it. And I think what "Baroque" said (asked) is right. I do think Korea is "culturally more stigmatized (in this problem) than the West." (English is my second language so I hope I expressed myself properly).

This T.V. show is great to tell something to the public audience that there is a misunderstanding, (like the lady who was mistaken by a child all the time) or to convince the person to stop doing something (like making there child work extra hours),or to convince the person that they have a problem and need to get help. This is done with the support of the public audience, after seeing the number of votes on the screen of people who see it as a problem, they realize that all the people think that something needs to be done. After the show something is done like seeing a therapist, and this is just to help them, and push them forward to help that. You saw how she felt about going to the doctor, but now after seeing the votes, it may encourage her to go seek help. If also gives an idea to the public of how they should be a treating the situation similar to this.

Watching this was so frustrating to be honest. No mention/consideration of an eating disorder throughout the whole video. This is most likely bulimia, and she's had it for about 3 years already?? This is such a serious disorder that hasn't been properly treated at all; at that point the urge to binge eat (and purge it all afterwards) would be pretty much _uncontrollable._ "Love yourself" speeches and unprofessional advice isn't going to be of much actual help. I really hope she tries to get therapy soon...

Sohyun 이소현 here's the thing he said she "could" get anorexia when she obviously already has the symptoms for bulimia. Meaning they 1)either don't know about bulimia 2)doesn't even know that anorexia isn't something that you can just get. It's not like a common cold. It's a mental disorder and she already is showing signs of a serious eating disorder yet he only says she "could" have it I'm sorry if it can off as mean but this is super fustrating
@VannaCuppycake13
@VannaCuppycake13 6 лет назад
Noah Maasaki Well, you *can* get anorexia. Of course it doesn't come and go like the common cold, but you can develop anorexia over time because of environmental factors, it's not always genetic. I know it's frustrating because it seems like she has bulimia nervosa, and I believe she does, but it's improper to diagnose someone if you don't have the right degree and schooling to do so. The people on the show might get in trouble if they were to "diagnose" her; they probably have to say "you could" or "you might", but I'm not sure how it is in Korea. I do wish they had told her to seek professional help though, she really does need to get properly treated before it gets worse.
@noahmaasaki4326
@noahmaasaki4326 6 лет назад
Vanna you can’t “get” a mental illness. You develop one. They are different. What you are describing is the development of a mental illness. By saying you can “get” a mental illness implies you just simply woke up and got it, when in reality it doesn’t work like that. Your information isn’t flawed, just badly worded. As for Korean culture, there is a terrible stigma around mental illness there and that is why it’s even more important for them to talk with more knowledge because if they don’t it’ll only spread bad or misleading information.

ckim4evr while you are right, you can't expect them to take this incredible seriously because they're not actual therapists. They are a show that's broadcasted all over Korea, people reporting the problem and the people on the show obviously know this ain't therapy/counseling. This show provides more of an outlook of their lives for other people,and to decide whether it's actually a concern. Afterwards its up to the person to seek help or get therapy. She checks every box for bulimia nervosa. She should see a health professional right away. She's in college right? Can she see a school psychologist or something? ED sufferers are often ashamed of their own actions and are thus very secretive. I'm surprised she's willing to share her condition to the public. Seeing how focused on appearance the country has become, the community should be more educated on eating disorders, so I hope her story can inspire governors and entertainment companies to take it seriously. Eating disorders are the deadliest clusters among all mental diseases, wrecking the body and mind from the inside out, and often coupled with other mental problems(e.g. clinical depression, OCD, anxiety). I really hope she gets the treatment she deserves.

what she needs is to get dragged to a damn hospital (literally drag since shes too weak to even walk like a normal human), not have a tv show and some friends tell her that shes eating bad. she needs doctors to firmly tell her that shes going to die if she continues like this. maybe that'll shake some sense into her.
@adastraperaspera8889
@adastraperaspera8889 6 лет назад
Forcing her to eat and get better will make things so much worse. She has to slowly change her mindset about her body and be willing to do it. If you tell her she'll die because of this, I think she literally wouldn't care. When I suffered from anorexia I even felt happy and encouraged to starve more by receiving comments like this. Of course this isn't always the case, but I think that this kind of mindset is widely spread amongst those who suffer from EDs.

This show's really stupid for deciding if an issue is a problem or not. At the end, who are these ppl to decide if it's a problem or not. They're all problems. If I was a producer of this show, I would change it so that it's a rank of how great the problem is. 1 small, but a problem nonetheless, to 5 as a critical problem.
@abthurd
@abthurd 8 лет назад
I also do not agree with the format. One good thing I like about the show is they did point out the main problem hence forcing the people to confront with their problem. I think one of the MC did mention it is a premature symptom of anorexia. I hope her friends, her relatives that will be watching this show take note of this and put some action to it. I wish they put two permanent professional casts (therapist/psychiatrist/counselor) in their panel hosts so that eventhough the format applies appropriate advice can be made for the people and also for viewers' learning and awareness.

Bruh, I don't think she blows out her bad memories out of proportions. And it just doesn't make sense to me they ask her to get over it. It is her friggin memories Really tho? I understand her so much when she said she rejected the guy because he doesn't seem serious at all and she doesn't mix well with guys because of her memories. Not to mention her brother also said the mean things to her. I'm not surprise at all that her distrust towards men is that high. After what she had gone through she deserves so much better than a guy who can easily find someone else to date after she rejected him. From her personality, I would say she's an introvert means it takes time to get to know her and approach her because she would not be approaching people and acting friendly. She's a timid girl. I'm so pissed that they asked her to get over her problems just because she had friends with her. No empathy at all. No amount of boyfriend can help her get through that. If she couldn't learn to love herself first, she will have more problems in the relationship which will lead to more issues. You think it's easy to find an ideal guy that can love a girl with issues and flaws? This is why I stop watching this show. This girl is clearly going through the worst time of her life, need a professional help and they just asked her to get over it, then the problem will be solved. What kind of bullshit is that. And just a thought. Her bulimic/anorexic symptoms might have started because of depression due to lack of self-confidence.

I hope one day she understands the balance between exercise and eating. You can still work out and eat the food you love, but just less of it. Eating like that and then skipping eating without moving your body can really kill you, so its important to learn balance and to take care of yourself. Too much of some thing can kill you; my best prayers are with her and hope she is bold yet strong enough to recover. Fighting!

Sometimes the way Korean culture sweeps serious issues under the rug makes me sad. I've seen eating disorders now in addition to what is obviously cheating husbands to sexuality denial (gay and lesbian both) and physical and psychological abuse and addiction of both genders, oh and the inferred shame of shotgun weddings... I'm not saying the US doesn't have talk shows about alllllllll off thheeesseeee thiinnggsss (Maury anyone?) but they always seem to talk AROUND what is really happening just so everyone can 'save face'. You know what makes someone proud? Overcoming a real issue instead of pretending the real issue never existed. Here we ask 'how do you feel knowing he's cheating' or 'there is help for you to leave him because he is hitting you' or 'have you thought about seeing someone to discuss your issues with your body and your relationship with food'. There is no "oh so you had your feelings hurt get over it' or 'really though, you are eating too much when you binge'. It's like cultural denial. No one ever stopped stopped a massive hemorrhage by pretending they weren't bleeding in the first place. And just for the analogy naysayers, yeah, a small cut heals on its own, but a small cut is like a woman getting mad because her husband didn't take out the trash that day, but a hemorrhage is like he cut her off from her friends, spends all of their money on booze, and doesn't want to watch their baby (which is on yet another episode of this show). I don't think I will be watching anymore episodes because it's too frustrating and sad. Korea is a culture of appeasing others and while societal kindness and respect goes a much longer way than it does in the US it, once reaching a certain line, it's detrimental to personal health both mentally and physically. I hope somewhere there is a culture that has found a decent middle ground that regards those on the outside at the same level as the individual inside without some false sense of shame.

the vicious cycle of binge/purge is much much deeper than stress, or obsession with her figure. she needs a professional treatment center. The best thing her friends can do for her is have boundaries and stop enabling her activity by trying to comfort her on the phone, but confront her with challenging questions to truly help her to soul search. The unhealthy eating habits is an external result of something very serious internally.

This is textbook bulimia. the poor girl. i hope she goes to a real psychiatrist, i hope that hello counselor has a referral system behind the scenes. it sounds like she has a major electrolyte imbalance, all the falling over and fainting. that can effect your heart :\ at the height of my bulimia i would've rather killed myself than go on a show like this. so humiliating. but i hope the fact that she showed up means that she recognises its a problem. if anyone is struggling with an eating disorder please tell someone and get help. its a long, long fight but you can get better and be happy with yourself.

Watching this in 2021 mad me so angry. She reminded me of myself because just at that time this came on RU-vid I was 16 and struggling with bulimia / binge eating disorder but thank God I have recovered. The way they said she blew her "bad memories" out of proportion really pissed me off. Because it's the trauma she faced as a young girl with her family that made her react a certain way when people poked her and made fun of her. I had an ED for that exact same reason and its because of childhood trauma from a very materialistic family. I wish her well this 2021.I hope she did her best those past few years.

Korea’s mentality to eating disorders are usually “diet” “mukbang” If a person has anorexia they consider it as “diet” and won’t even care and if they have BED they will consider as “mukbang” “fast metabolism” “foodie” The way they think won’t change any time soon..as many ed sufferers increase they just say it as “youth’s obsession to become pretty and happy” eating disorders are not even considered a problem to the citizens and it won’t change till the day when even one person looks up to the toxic beauty standards and media pressuring the youths to fit the category especially with their celebrities! ~the way I eat is similar I just don’t restrict much(because I can’t) and I don’t purge/vomit why?? because I have BED and she clearly has bulimia..I really hope she’s doing okay now

I'm happy something like this was discussed on the show. Korea's obsession with a "slim body" goes way too far sometimes. Like he said, she could have become anorexic. And also like they said, being over 50kg for 164cm is absolutely normal. Honestly, if people make fun of her for her weight or figure, she should just ignore them cuz their views and opinions should not affect her in any way. "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder". You don't have to look like an idol to be considered "pretty". A lot of idols are really underweight but I've seen many idols like Apink's Bomi and Twice's Jihyo who are actually at the right weight.

Thank you to everyone that wrote in the comments that this girl actually has bulimia and not just "weird eating patterns" because this could have been so triggering to me, thank you for the warning. I clicked thinking it was going to be like those American shows where people eat weird stuff, yet it turns out is an eating disorder and that they discuss it so casually? I lived in Korea a few years ago, and it was so sickening to me how girls treated eating disorders as normal dieting. It was awful and sad and made me feel so empty knowing there was nothing I could do to get them to ask professional help. It definetely triggered my ED so much, but even more than that was how terrible it felt to know how normalized ED were. Again, thank you all from saving me from reliving all that again.

I used to be like her, I kept binge eating for a whole day or two and then vomiting everythimg I could. I would starve myself for days until I saw the scale going down the weight I wanted to see. It got to the point I was so mentally and pshysically in a really bad condition that I ended up in the hospital with fluids because I was severously dehydrated and animic. I started going to therapy weekly since that episode and it's been two years since the last time I vomit!! Sometimes I still binge eat because that's how my anxiety works, but it's reaaaally just sometimes, and I know what to do about it later, to not feel so guilty, to just let it happen and stop blaming myself for it.
