Melinoe's candor and her general obliviousness to the depths of the Olympians' pettiness is some of my favorite character writing for her (which is even funnier when she's exhausted with their Trials and lets her impatience bleed a bit). Here, it gives the impression that Hera doubts her motivations and sincerity, when Melinoe's consistently been shown to think well of her extended family and either forget (or not know) their spiteful and vindictive natures have harmed others in ways more than her own Trials. Girlie is being sincere, Hera!!
it really shows how vastly different melinoe and zagreus were raised. zag was raised by nyx and partly by achilles, being carefree almost to a fault until he decides to look for persephone. i have a feeling that if hades was more involved in his childhood and life he would have ended up closer to melinoe's personality. hecate seems to be just as close to hades as nyx and achilles were, if he trusted her enough to raise his child for him. and she seems to be closer in personality to him as well(at least what he would have probably been like if persephone never left)
Considering Melinoë wasn’t raised with as much education on the relationships between gods and goddesses aside from their names- something that’s relevant considering Hecate trained her from a young age to be a weapon against chronos. Melinoë values all her family because she has only a painting to remember her closest relatives by- which is something completely different from Hera who has needed to entertain and endure the strife and squabbling between gods and goddesses for all of her own life. It’s an interesting dynamic where sincerity meets rightful skepticism , but Melinoë’s earnestness might just win over Hera one day.
I like how Hera's default tone seems to be one of barely restrained contempt. Given that she arguably suffers worse family shenanigans than a sitcom wife by way of being married to a man who just can't keep in his toga, it's hard to blame her.
I like how she isn't exactly mean, rather she's basically the most straightforward, which considering her husband, is an excellent contrast. The flighty Zeus and the cautious Hera.
Oh she's definitely mean, indirectly calling her ignorant and foolish outright. Accept it for what it is, but despite her meanness, she clearly does care about Mel, in the "oh you sweet summer child, please wise up, I don't want to see you hurt" way.
Mel is too nice and kind for the Greek pantheon lol. I think she is a great foil to them honestly. Hera atleast is honest and upfront with the fact that the Olympians are not morally upstanding gods and only care about themselves.
Hera laid it out straight “I’m the queen of the Olympians and the Goddess of marriage and you’re born out of wedlock. The fact you praise me and call me your queen is either insincere or ignorant. In either case, stop it. I’m not helping you because I like you or even care about you. I’m helping you because you’re useful.”
@@claymore-kid7114Mel was not born out of Wedlock, Hades and Persephone are like the one stable marriage in Hades. What she meant is Mel is not married herself so it seems kinda pointless to butter up the goddess of marriage unless she intends on getting married.
All people care about themselves but the brainwashing makes people forget makes the things society has drilled into you mistaking think it's your interests
@@claymore-kid7114 ….? I think you misunderstood her comments. Shes the goddess of marriage, not childbirth (or at she’s not referring to that there). Shes talking about how Melinoe isn’t married, hence no reason to pray. Nothing to do with wedlock. Not that Melinoe was. Plus, Hera says that she’s not Melinoe’s queen. Persephone would be the one.
@@kostakonomi who knows? Zeus had to turn Metis into a fly to eat her, but Chronos just unhinged his jaw and ate infants. Who knows what Chronos is capable of.
Seeing this makes me wonder: How does Hera feel about the House of Hades? We know she doesn't view them as Olympians, she says as much, but aside from that. The House of Hades had a very functional group dynamic. Hades remains faithful to Persephone alone, maintaining a professional relationship with Nyx despite how long they've known each other and how long Persephone was gone. Zagreus has multiple lovers yes, but they all are not only aware of each other, but respect one another and are all perfectly fine with the relationship. Trust, Respect, and Faith are held in high regard after the events of the first game, and even now Hades only has good things to say about everyone, despite their flaws. How does Hera feel seeing that, and comparing it to the dumpster fire of affairs, mistrust, conflict, and dysfunction that is not just Olympus, but in her husband alone? How does she feel seeing this group that she clearly feels is beneath her, being a better family unit, the very thing she is the goddess of, than her own family?
Simply put, Hera has always been one of the more spiteful of the Olympians, so the jealousy must be driving her crazy. Just look at the nonsense she put Heracles through. And that was just as much because his mother had the gall to name him after Hera to try and appease her. I feel like if she hadn’t done that, Hera wouldn’t have been quite as hellbent on making Heracles’ life miserable.
I came across a bit of dialogue where she compared Poseidon to Hades. I recall she described Hades as being tall, dark, and handsome and admiring his diligence and responsibility or something. Would have to find the exact quote, but bottom line she thinks Hades is hot.
@@coltonwilliams4153 One mistake friend, Hera was especially mad at Heracles because of his lineage. zeus was his father, grandfather, great... grandfather, and possibly one more. The name was an attempt to appease her but the amount of Zeus infidelity made it impossible.
Considering how Hera sees every female besides other Olympians as targets for Zeus to literally fuck with in the actual Mythos, her being so doubtful of Meli is really on brand of her. Meli is catching strays and she doesn't even know it. As much as the rest of the Olympians are okay with her existence, Hera is probably the second most dangerous character in the whole game besides Chronos.
Her "husband" has cheated on her numerous times. Of course she has trust issues. She feels she's been made a joke by her husband who has been unfaithful AT LEAST 100 separate times. That's not an exaggeration. Sometimes with gods, sometimes with mortals, sometimes with fucking animals.
@@Amferam: Not by choice. The man is so horrific that she has tried leaving him before, only for him to prevent her from doing so. She is literally trapped in a loveless marriage.
as someone who surrounds himself with stern women, i love hera. she reminds me of other characters like emma frost. the “meaner” she is to melinoe, she is actually treating her more as an equal, giving her practical advice in a pointed way.
What kind of fool surrounds himself with stern harpies? You might as well be a janitor for a nunnery. You'll get the same experience without the "Oh I'm so great because I surround myself with stern women" nonsense.
Shes actually being nice she telling her if your acting nice to get something be upfront about it and if your geuinly nice then dont be cause the gods arent nice people and will betray her if it benefits them plus she has reason to be suspicious the only people that pray to her are married people melinoe isnt its kinda strange for her
@@FLYYADIGG24 Hera in Greek Mythology was kind and showed care for those around her. She wept bitterly for the tragedies that befell Thetis and Achilles. She would help everyone who appealed to her. The only times she was bitter was due to Zeus' infidality.
@@chrysalis6378 1) every interpretation of the gods vary. It’s up to the writers to decide who they’ll write the cast, and it’s not going to be “accurate” to the way we see them. For example, Theseus. 2) Ppl often assume women like Hera who r straight the point as “bitchy” or mean. But being honest is rather nice, and I don’t see Hera as being mean here. She just is distrusting of someone who is being so nice to her and she can’t fathom why they’d be nice without expecting anything in return.
@@BelBelle468 true but I raise a counterargument, Hera Alexandros (Gr. Ἀλέξανδρος), the "defender of men". One of the aspects of Hera who she protects men who have been falsely accused of sexual assault.
Hera made Hercules murder his own family, was one of the main reasons behind the Trojan war, had Dionysus ripped to pieces, forced her kid Hephaestus off of Olympus for being ugly and lame and tortured multiple people for being Zeus lovers. Like she is not the worst greek god but don’t be dumb. Most stores of her are her harming, killing, or torturing people
