I just wanted to thank you for inspiring me to make the calendula oil, which I now have 6 batches made and bees wax ordered to make the salve. I have had a rash off and on under my breasts for 3 to 4 years right where the bra strap goes around. I’ve been on 2 to 3 medications for this and they did not help. So a few days ago during that hot weather it got really bad, so I thought I’m gonna try my olive oil calendula mix under there and trust me it was an instant relief and cleared it right up. It’s been 3 days and still great. So thank you for showing me this wonderful mix. You are a godsend to many.

I grew comfrey about 30 years ago in a small garden - it took over the entire garden by summers' end! These days, I grow plantain in my back door flower bed, as a border. My wife thinks they are weeds! Love your presentations! Just bought a 15 ounce block of pure beeswax yesterday at our health food store.

The funniest thing is that I planted some sage seeds but all Summer, as it was growing, I kept saying that doesn't look like Sage. Today while I was watching your video I realized that it is really Plantain. I had no idea. I had never even heard of it before except for the kind that you fry. The one that looks like a banana. Well, it's good to know I have something so useful growing in place of the Sage. Even if I wasn't the one who planted it. LOL

I have started my first herbal medicinal garden this year. Most herbs I've started from seed as I haven't been able to find starters for the more uncommon herb. I finally have enough calendula blooms to do an oil infusion. I came back to review a few of your videos to refresh my mind. But my daughter age 42 has pretty painful varicose veins and I've been wanting to make her some salves for the inflammation she gets. So I'm finally starting with the calendula as it has been the most prolific herb this year for this type of problem. I started some Western Yarrow and it sort of did okay I guess. It never bloomed though. Just looked up some reasons why, and I think it may have been dense dirt, though I did try to mix the dirt with loose container dirt. I'm growing it in containers. A lot of my plants are growing very slow. So I really didn't get much yarrow leaves. I managed to harvest some a couple weeks ago and dehydrated them. But no flowers this year. I say ALL of this to ask about doing a simple oil infusion with calendula and yarrow leaves (not a whole lot of yarrow) but some. I did get a pretty good harvest of cayenne peppers this year, and dehydrated them all. But not enough to fill a whole quart jar once I crumble them. Maybe half. So I'm wondering if I should do a separate cayenne oil infusion? Or crumble up some and add to the calendula? I did want to save some cayenne for some fire cider. I know I can buy some herbs already dried, but I'm trying to use and learn what can be done with minimal amounts of things. I do have Comfrey, plantain, and Valerian started, but they just aren't growing much. I started them late as i couldn't even find seeds for what seemed to be forever. But they're started and have made it thru our first hard frost. My main question in all this is any pointers you may have to make best use of what I have. I have new respect for how long it takes to grow things and how it can be longer if you make silly mistakes and kill the seedlings a couple times as I learn. Ha. Though it's not funny when you realize you have to start over. But I've learned a whole lot this year and have a fair amount of other herbs dehydrated and ready to make other things with. I'm just real nervous as once I start mixing them and pouring oil over them I don't want to have to start over again. I love watching your videos and I learn a lot. I'm focusing on issues my immediate family has, arthritis, painful muscles, varicose veins, inflammation etc. That's just a start. I had a real good harvest this year of Lemon Balm and Camomile until I got some kind of fungus. Ugh. Thanks for any points or suggestions you may have.

@@Molly-bgood what I have found to work really well is straight orange essential oil, then sprinkling some baking soda, and scrubbing with a paper towel. The healing salve is for minor abrasions, scratches, blisters, cuts, burns, not for pain relief. If you are looking for something to help with achy muscles and joints, I have a different recipe for that. Here is the new infused oil blend I came up with: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-oDZCAXxH4U8.html and in this video I show options of essential oils you can add for a stronger solution: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5yrNGcgeMDE.html

I am with you on the no roundup. I’m curious though if you have a solution for thistles that are all over the yard? I have lots of kids running around barefoot and they’re constantly stepping in the thorns..I’ve tried a strong vinegar solution and all that did was kill all the grass around the thistle, then it grew back.

I would not, you may have to remove them individually. There is a weed puller I once used to use that works pretty well, no shovels, no digging, no bending. This one is a lesser expensive model but there are many brands out there: amzn.to/3xdjKJM

Im so glad i come across this RN. Ive been reacting to holding my friends vaccinated baby. I'm COVERED in what looks like mosquito bites. Last year same kid i got a chicken pox related rash that I maintained for nearly 6 months. Im ABSOLUTELY miserable w the intensity of this rash. It itches and hurts. I have yarrow growing up rn. No plantains yet but we just got another 2 inches of snow. In a few days it should melt and I'll be scouting out my yard for plantains. U r such a comfort in these trying times. 💚🌱

I only use the leaves, seeds are often used for other purposes, they are edible and it is where psyllium is derived.

Hello! I have a comfrey question. I started growing my own comfrey and I am trying to grow it naturally without any help but since my plants sprouted they just stopped growing. I also noticed bugs are eating the leaves. Can you please help me? Do you have any suggestions for organic feeding and bugs that won’t effect the healing properties? Thank you so much for your time!
@RainCountryHomestead
@RainCountryHomestead 4 года назад
As far as that goes, I am not sure what to tell you because here, comfrey does not need any help as it grows great on its own. Are you in a very dry climate? As far as bugs, I do have a bug spray recipe that works well for me: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6xDICEWqARg.html

Can the dried leaves and flowers be kept in the oil too long? I also put comfrey leaves and plantain in Olive oil and left it on my kitchen counter and it went rancid. Your thoughts on Almond oil which is supposed to be good for skin problems? It goes to 450 decrees while Avocado oil goes to 500 decrees. Looking forward to making you skin cream with this oil.
@RainCountryHomestead
@RainCountryHomestead 4 года назад
It was the olive oil that went rancid, not the herbs. If you have a good heat stable oil like avocado, this won't happen. I leave my herbs in the oil for as long as I can. Minimum of 2 months but if it goes several months longer, there is not concern. Yes, almond oil is a good option

Heidi, Costco is now carrying the Avocado oil in 2 liter bottles, just under $20, I didnt see any limit on purchase
@RainCountryHomestead
@RainCountryHomestead 3 года назад
Yep, I have been buying that one too. They each have their benefits and the price is really not the different. The Chosen Foods is half the size but also half the price and comes in glass bottles that can be reused for storing wine, mead, or vinegar where the $20 bottle is plastic but the price is just slightly lower per ounce.

@@RainCountryHomestead I just remembered about the plastic bottles, itxs the Chosen brand, slightly lower, I think I'll transfer it into glass and put it in a cupboard.

Hi. I LOVE your videos and site! I am very happy to have found your site. I just watched your videos on using borage plant grown at home for medicinal purposes. I am a little confused between borage oil and a borage tincture you can make from your own plant at home. What is the difference between them as far as medicinal purposes; can both be used topically, for skin and hair treatments, for example, or one is taken internally? I also don't understand after making the oil or tincture, do you use them alone, or you're supposed to then add them to other things to use medicinally on one's hair or skin? I would greatly appreciate any information you could share, or if you have any videos I would love to see more! I just subscribed to your channel. Thank you and God bless.

Infused oils and tinctures are different as one is made with oils and the other made with alcohol or other non oil solvents. The infused oil can be used alone or mixed with things like beeswax, shea butter and other such to make it a cream or salve. Here is the salve recipe using the above infused oil: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-SVVViB57OS8.html
