Episode #821 So Harbor Freight is saying their new Hercules Trim Router compares to the DeWalt DWP611...that's a tall order. Today, dad's going to compare the specs and do a performance test to see if it really does.

Bought a Bosch Colt 1HP for $90 from Amazon. When it came, it looked like the box had gotten wet and been thrown around. I opened it and it looked like it had water damage. Returned it and bought one of these for $65 on sale on my way back from returning the Bosch.

New sub, one of the best reviews I’ve seen on RU-vid in a long time! I have had the 611 for 5-6 years now and really like it. I’m a retired hobbyist so I won’t be buying another 1 1/4 HP router unless the Dewalt dies, but wouldn’t hesitate buying this one if it does. I’ve seen the Herc in the store and wondered how well it works. I bought the Herc 2.25 router about 6 months ago and that thing is a beast! It plows through everything I’ve thrown at it. I ended up mounting that in the router table. Of note, I have an old craftsman 1 3/4 HP router for at least 10 years. EVERYTHING is compatible between it and the Herc. Base plates, collets, dust shoots, edge guide and event the wrench. Again, great review and looking forward to a follow up review on it. Good luck!🍀👍🏻

Eric, thanks for the informative review! I wouldn't hesitate to buy the Hercules but I absolutely need the fine adjustment the DeWalt provides, and since you highlighted this detail it saved me from speding my hard earned money, THANKS.

Good review! Will be interested to see how it holds up over time. I think for the price if it’s just for occasional use and not spinning big bits all the time it should work well. I’m not a router expert by any means, but if I was doing a lot of dados and such where you can’t really take multiple passes, unless starting with a straight bit, then the dado bit, I’d probably get a full size router. After all, these are called trim routers

My Milwaukee 18 is my favorite. I was hesitant about modifying the housing because i also use it for wood working. I just found a place who sells just the housing for $50. So if your in the same situation, its worth it instead of buying another m18.

Are both 1/4 shank? What router do you recommend for 1/4 & 1/2 shank

Pretty much all trim routers are 1/4" shanks. If you want to be able to use both, Dad likes the DeWalt DW616. It's a lot like the DWP611, just bigger

Since you had to drill your base to fit, couldn't you rotate the Hercules on the base so the vacuum adapter would work with your base handles?

We haven't bought one in a long time, so I can't say for sure but I would imagine they do because almost everything coming out now does.

I think we did that comparison a few years ago. The DeWalt is WAY better in our opinion.

I have the bauer corded and it did not hold the depth adjustment well at all I was very disappointed perhaps the Hercules will be better . No hate just disappointed in the bauer. at least for me.

Ya, we were pretty disappointed in the Bauer cordless router. At first it seemed pretty good, but over a few months it went down hill pretty fast. Hopefully the Hercules doesn't have the same issue.

I hate cheap stuff. I do realize something's are manufactured in the factory. That being said Hercules could be built in the same place. My experience with harbor freight stuff is that it doesn't last long. This maybe an exception.

U have to try more products. Their brands are like tiers there. Everything Pittsburgh or the warrior brand is the cheapest/probably wont last as long

Some prior items were definitely made poorly but it looks like they stepped out their game especially with the Hercules brand. Way back when I got into woodworking i wasn’t sure how much i would use a miter saw so bought the cheap Chicago electric…that thing was work horse for me for 8 years handling anything i threw at it never skipped a beat until i got serious into woodworking so wanted a better one. Was looking at the DeWalt 780 but then Hercules came out with theirs, reviewed both and impressed with quality of Hercules compared to yellow one, waited a year then bought Hercules. Fantastic tool, built as well as yellow one and has been a beast super accurate for the years I have used it. Hercules brand is not the old Chicago Electric stuff you are describing.
