I haven't seen very much content from Jung, but from the few videos I have seen, and from the stories about his life I have heard, I also lean to the INFJ conclusion.
Jung was brilliant - and Freud hated him for it. Mainly because his work was counter to Freud theories. He's the father of typology, whose work was codified by Meyers/Brigg. I think he wanted to understand himself more, as most INFJ's do, and I still am fascinated by watching his old filmed B&W interviews. He was a man not afraid to peep into those dark corners in his own mind seeking answers. His very explanation of concepts shows his Ni at work. INFJ for sure.
I loved learning about how Jung's maternal Grandfather, Samuel Preiswerk, would set out a special chair, once a week, for his dead wife to symbolically sit in and he would converse with her for hours. He was married too.
Looking at his gesturing he looks like a xxxJ, his introverted judging function use seems laborious so it would make sense for a tertiary. So, yeah, INFJ is much more likely than INTP.
I can see why you and others see him as NiFe. But I disagree for the following reasons: Archetypes is Ne. Categorizing people into types is TiNe. The Socionics Beneficiary Ring shows TiNe advances by starting to look like their NiFe Benefactor. Also, in this RU-vid video attached below that you mentioned Jung is asked about his type. He essentially states he is an introverted thinking dominant type. Darionardi, Socionics founder Ausra, CSJ, and many more accept he is TiNe. Typology is dominated by Ti/Ne types. Beebe, Keirsey, Berens to name a few. Rambling language that goes all over the place is Ne. I'm fine with you having an opinion that Jung was NiFe. But for you to say "Jung was obviously an INFJ" and that he mistyped himself is arrogant and misleading. Have you watched his interviews on RU-vid? From what I saw in the videos of Lijo about Carl Jung descriptions of the 8 functions : He always describes people behavior, and not the functions/mechanisms on themselves (like I sometimes do as INTJ) - It's obvious to me he is INFJ. I don't know how to explain but his descriptions are very Fe, not Te or Ti. Only Ni dom are truly into human behavior and psyche, by this natural ability of Ni to understand behavior/images. A lot into symbolism, and some Ti things about Astrology (ex proton radiation) & Science into his book "Synchronicity" So yes a magical INFJ mind, eyes, smile, aura.
I totally agree with your analysis that Jung is Ni dominant. In regards to your take on him being a Ti user, I would have to point out that even INTJs have strong Ti as a 6th function (the demonstrating function in socionics is regarding as 4D) I actually see his Ti used in this way, used order to bring some sophistication to the potential to ramble (Te second function) and make it more ready for Jung’s audience to digest. Unfortunately we only have access to videos of him later in life, but if we could access footage of him earlier in life we could probably find him rambling more without as much sophistication. I’m still inclined to see him as an INTJ-H which is the most closest variant of INTJ to our INFJ cousins. Besides myself, I’ve never met another one though, I suspect in today’s day and age they die early from suicide, let me know if you find one. I feel one reason why I survived is because I had an INFJ father and INFP mother. Apologies for the Te ramble. You sir are an immature INTJ, way too direct. Please remember that you have entered INFJ territory, you should try to respect that more and learn more from the value that has been produced here, otherwise go elsewhere, you know you don’t like wasting time. Please rephrase to “I think he was likely INTJ” and then express proof and logic. Unless however your goal is actually to disrupt the peace here and satisfy your own ego, in that case sure tell them the truth: He’s an INTJ 😉 either way I’d strongly advise you that if you truly believe that he was INTJ then you should be striving to emulate the amount of care that Jung had for people as an INTJ. Show a little respect to the thinking others hold, even when you don’t agree. That’s what Jung did
In reply to the gentleman that emailed me: “What a nice way to be rude and discriminate against people with different types of communication than your own” Firstly, I’m a Te user (INTJ) and I presume that the person I have commented to is also a Te user (INTJ) Secondly, I agree with him completely that Jung is an INTJ (I have a world of reasons) but I don’t see the benefit of mentioning it for it only to be rejected by many of the audience anyway. Thirdly, and most importantly, I’d like to highlight the importance of knowing one self and acting with responsibility (self actualising) is much more important than which type Jung was. Please understand I respect all of your INFJ thoughts here especially those of the presenter who has spent much time and energy putting things together. That is more than the above INTJ had done and I wish him to realise that peoples feelings and thoughts collectively should hold more weight than just his personal time and satisfying his own ego. I believe he could learn, he may even become a real life Jung. That’s all ❤
