The Chevy suburban is the longest running name in automotive history, no model car has been produced longer for a reason, because its just simply a functional car. I have seating for 8 and can tow 8,500lbs it just simply works for everything you need (except good gas mileage)like he said but I nothing compares to the power of a v8 except a bigger gas guzzler. No one wants the gas milage of a big vehicle but everyone needs a friend that has one

Maybe, but there is another side to it. Suppose you can get that GM vehicle $3K cheaper, then you invest that $3K and over a decade, you have money set aside for repairs and if you're competent to DIY, that will pay for quite a few repairs. On the other hand, I'd still rather get a used Ford, or if buying new, Toyota.

Scotty. I bought a new 2015 Suburban when they first came out in May of 2014. It was an expensive check to write, but it has been a very good vehicle. It now has 138,000 miles on it. I just changes plugs, belt, antifreeze, and all that. Just replaced the original brakes and front rotors as well. Rea is STILL original. It had a couple recalls, but no big deal. Averages about 16 MPG, but that is with stop and go driving. Out on the highway, it gets low-mid 20's mpg. We purchased it because we needed a vehicle that can carry seven people AND their luggage. No one else makes a vehicle that can do that. I really don't care what gas costs per gallon. This is the size vehicle we needed then. I change my own oil and filter, every 4,000 miles. Always use Mobil 0-20W. Doesn't use a drop of oil. I think you would find if you interviewed most people who drive these vehicles, they do so because they need a vehicle of that size. Most of us do not care what gas costs or how many mpg the vehicle gets. They are tools that are purchased to do a job. By the way, I buy my vehicles new, keep them for 10 years. Some may have 200K on them when I trade them, and some more. The highest was a 1982 Honda Accord with 425,000 miles one it. I wore 5th gear out on that thing. But the A/C still worked when i traded it in!

I've owned any number of domestic & foreign vehicles, and have never had any major reliability issues with any of them. Toyota, Chevrolet, Chrysler, Dodge, Ram, Mercedes-Benz, Honda, Pontiac-- they were all great vehicles that never gave me any mechanical issues. I followed the service schedules, and that was it. I've checked the ground wire that connects next to the obd1 plug & even used sandpaper to clean the wire and the plate that it bolts to. My question; should I start checking for shorts in everything that's flickering or could it be the ccu & the instrument cluster be in need of being replaced? The pointers on the instrument cluster also tend to bounce around each time the instrument cluster flickers

Scotty, I disagree. 1) GM is investing a lot of money and resources developing electric cars for the future. 2) In the short term GM is meeting the customer demand for SUVs. They are providing the product customers want. (Just like you stated Toyota does). 3) Oil prices are NOT going up in your or my lifetime. U.S. oil producers have developed advanced techniques to recover oil in ways never imagined before. The US is now the #1 producer of crude oil in the world. We now have hundreds of years of obtainable crude oil reserves in this country. When oil prices approach $60 per barrel, US producers bring more rigs online increasing supply, driving the prices back down. When oil prices drop below $45 per barrel producers take wells offline, decreasing supply, driving prices back up. Oil prices between $40 to $60 per barrel are here to stay.

My 1987 Delta 88 (bought used) went 225,000 miles. It was a replacement for the 1969 Econoline van with 340,000 miles that had too many trips to the transmission shop and had too many rear axle bearings replacements. It also had no air, something that is needed in the south. The wife's 1988 Fleetwood was towed last year. Shop guys didn't know how to get it running. She bought it used when the 1978 Corvette wasn't reliable transportation. In 2003 I bought a new LeSabre that now has over 100,000 miles. Good car. Gave it to my daughter and bought a used 2012 Equinox that has needed only new tires, and do my own brakes. I also replaced the two VVT solenoids myself after a CEL code. The Equinox is good because it 1) is easier to get in and out, and 2) it provides a better view of the road ahead. Most drivers are looking only at the next vehicle in front of them.

SuperPhdiva SRB cities or areas with poor public transportation make more sense to own a car. If we look at it from a public health perspective, a car can provide access to jobs outside of your area especially for those that can’t afford to live where they work. This affect lower income communities the most, lack of jobs or jobs that can increase your economic status, education opportunities or training, etc... Some areas of the US were redesigned for cars and now are extremely difficult to travel without a vehicle (a huge mistake on our part and cities are trying to correct it). I highly recommend watching Patriot Act episode on public transportation.
