Great video Anthony! I like how you mentioned the evolution of the profession and how to not be "left behind". That is precisely what I envisioned when typing the e-mail and you put it into words beautifully . I will let you know how the interview goes in a few days and thank you for all the help you provide us, it is much appreciated by all of us. As an "outsider" to the profession , it's people like you that change the stereotypes of the career and allows it to re-shape into the current demand of our social landscape. A1

You motivated me my brothers. Your email hit home with me. It really did. It just was the perfect timing. Thank you for reaching out to me ....your email meant more to me that you will ever know. I do expect pictures of you when you graduate and when you move through each rank.

I retired in 2007 from CDCR after a 27 year career. The interview was easy, but the written test was three hours long! Talk about pencil paralysis!

Looking at going into corrections myself with all that inmind myself I also see mental health for corrections as well as imates an corrections officer an there possibly being a faith based structure inside the walls as well somewhere I also think working on accountability, safety,an policies an correct procedure love your videos I feel leadership is huge to as well the way I was taught in the the fire service also was proform the way you practice weather its inside training or out in the field I also think there needs to be consistency in the training hours an more then just the baseline of 40 hr minimum for training just curious anothony on your thoughts I am a huge believer in the right policy's procedure structure training as well as better accountability in prisons accountability is huge where I come from in the fire service thanks

Anthony! Thanks again for all your videos. I finally became a CO and was welcomed into the family just 3 days ago. I’m getting hands on training right now sitting in on housing units. I NEED ADVICE. When I walked into the housing unit today, 4 out of the 40 inmates immediately began yelling obscenities to me. Remarks like “hey newbie you ain’t gonna make it here” and “hey look at the fresh meat!!!”. Granted, this is a county jail, not state. But these guys are really mean mugging me. I didn’t respond to them. Am I supposed to respond to empty comments like these comments? Make eye contact? Walk away or argue? I’ll be honest as a 30 year old man and military veteran, I was very nervous. I am nervous to go back, but I want this career in corrections. Yes this is my dream job. Yea I’ll continue to show up. I’m just admitting, I am nervous, sometimes afraid. Please give me your insight.

Matt. We all go though what you are going though. The thing is ...you can’t let those comments go...it will get worse. Your best bet is to address it. If you know who the inmate is...deal with the inmate directly. Pull them aside and talk to them when they are not surrounded by their homies. If need be, have another officer present. The key is be direct with them ..: I have done a few episodes on dealing with disrespect. The key is ..you must address it and showcase your control. Be strategic in your approach. Approach them when you have control of the environment. This is all about timing. But I will guarantee you one thing..isolate the inmate being disrespectful...deal with them directly away from anyone else..and you will get a whole different.

Hey Anthony, I’m new to your channel but I’ve been watching William Young for a while now, I have a question for you regarding the background. I’m in the middle of the hiring process with the agency I’m applying for, and yesterday filled out my PHS for the third party BC agency. When doing this, I remembered things I had previously forgotten about on the initial PHS that I turned in directly to the agency. It’s not really anything big, but i still am really worried they are going to think I was making an attempt to conceal something, and I really wasn’t. It’s pretty much just related to my work history. There were a few questions about whether or not I had left a job without giving notice, and I told them about one time more recently, but totally forgot about a couple of jobs since high school/college that I worked at for literally one shift, one of them I never even filled out paperwork or got paid for. So it seems understandable I forgot about them until I filled out my entire life work history going through previous years taxes. Again, no big deal, just don’t want them to see that as my trying to pull a fast one. The one that I’m much more worried about was my first job when I was 15, I worked there for a week or two, and was accused of stealing a waitress’s tips from a table. To be clear, I did not steal anything, or even think about it, but she seemed to think the tip was too small for me not to have taken part of it. It turned into me quitting and I haven’t thought about it since and I have never had such an accusation against me. This was years ago, and I totally forgot about it, but then remembered on my third party PHS. My question I guess is how can I go about explaining this to my recruiter, or IF I can explain that to them or are my chances shot? I’m sorry for the novel, and maybe this ain’t the best place for it, but I need some guidance. Surely I can’t be the only person who forgot something stupid like that at first. Should I be proactive and get out in front of it and call him on Monday to explain this mix up, or should I just wait until it comes up to try and explain? I truly wasn’t trying to conceal anything, I just forgot because it was such a long time ago and a very short part of my work history. Anyways, thanks, and keep up the great work on your content!

It happens. When you feel there is something for you to add …it becomes an amendment to the Report. As long as what you say does not change the integrity of what is written. I recommend you always be proactive. Trust and Honesty can be seen when information is volunteers as opposed to be discovered. My best advice…be forthcoming …just mention that as you were going home there were other jobs you have had that you honestly forgot to mention. The key is …be forthcoming and honest and that will hold a lot more weight than then discovering it. This happens a lot…just tell them you would like to add a few things that you forgot to mention. Again..what you are added doesn’t mess with the integrity of what you originally answered. We can always add if need be..you just TRY your best never to CHANGE. If that makes sense. And welcome to the tier talk community

@@TierTalk thank you. That helps a lot. I have a few relatives that work in this facility in other capacities and I have heard similar things from them, but I wanted to get the perspective from someone who knows the process for a CO, rather than the process for support staff which I’m sure is quite different. I appreciate it!

Anytime. Stay confident. Be consistent with your answers. Consistency comes with being honest and trustworthy. Regardless of the outcome..be forthcoming. Trust and believe …when you show consistency ..confidence will pour our at well. Again…be proactive. Never let them discover it….
