I am about to hit 13,000 miles on my 2019 Rebel (have owned for 6 months) as I drive a lot on the weekends. This truck is awesome, and the gas mileage doesn't upset me. I saw those numbers and was extremely skeptical they would be achieved in a truck that has a 1" lift, 33" off-road tires, and a 3.92 rear axle ratio. I have enjoyed being in this truck for every mile, and I left a 14 Chevy High Country.
I drove my Hemi truck (1500 4X4 Mega Cab) for six years and 170K miles. The only thing that went wrong with it was a leak on the rear differential seal! That's it! And I drove it pretty hard. Pulled trailers to Montana to California from time to time and also drove off road and camping. Was a great truck, loved it. Everyone said, "buy Ford F150" so I did thinking my truck needed to be replaced. After the fist year of the F150 I had nothing but issues, horrible AC and the interior was cheap. Wish I would have kept my 1500 Mega Hemi!
Went in order Chevy > Ford > Ram, and I haven't looked back. Chevy interiors just crumble on you, had a few all the same deal, Ford has better interiors but the suspension and cooling issues after 100k were rediculous, it was the perfect truck until it wasn't. Ram... never a problem. So that's what I stuck with.
Purchased my Rebel approximately 2 months prior to your purchase and I have 1,500 more miles. I agree with everything your stated in this video except the rattle in the front suspension, have not had this issue. Biggest complaint is the gas mileage, my average is 16.8 on the freeway with the cruise control set at 75 and about 500 pounds in the bed of the truck. This truck is a dream to drive, my 8 hour trip was extremely enjoyable, a luxury car ride. I did option in the panoramic sunroof and air ride suspension. The sunroof is a blast on a warm summer day.
I got my 19 Rebel back in August and I put in about 12,000 miles to this day and I love it. No regrets nothing. I’ve done a 3.5inch ReadLift Kit, 35 inch Mickey Thompson ATZ tires with 20 inch Rebel Fuel Wheels and i also added a Borla S-Type Catback exhaust system
Luis Reviews yeah talk to me in 5 years. I have owned 1 Dodge, but driven several Durango’s as police squad cars. Dodge = crap. They spend more time in the shop than any vehicle I have ever known. Our Tahoe’s and Explorers just keep going.
see to me that sounds like a real review, bring on somebody who's put 20-30k miles on the truck in 6 months to a year and they will have put the thing through the fire
@@pryme2013 Good thing it's not a fiat. Besides that, 6 months is long term for realistically any review. No it's not what you are asking but it's a brand new truck. It'll take time obviously to make it. It's called informing there audience every 6 months.
@@MrComputerCoder well what is it then? Its obviously not a Dodge either. Manufacturers who are proud of their vehicles put their name on it. Guess the "ram" is an orphan. And 6mo is not a long term review for a vehicle THEY OWN!
had a 2011 ram with the hemi drove it till 90k miles still drove like new people who have issues and say that they are never buying fiat again crack me up look up any forum on any car/truck your bound to find issues with everything that has a motor an 4 wheels
90K, You just broke it in. Come back at 250K. Some vehicles break much sooner like chrysler/fiat. Just a fact that you try to brag about 90K says that you don't live in the same universe like some other brands.
So for $60k you get a truck that looks like the Power Wagon, but has a smaller engine, weaker drivetrain, brakes and steering components, no front locker, winch or swaybar disconnect, complicated auto start/hybrid system....and it gets worse fuel mileage! Why on Earth would anyone buy a Rebel over the Power Wagon?
The towing weight battle is ongoing among the manufacturers but the reality is that more than 8 thousand pounds of trailer, especially a high wind profile one, is going to make you hate every mile you drive in any of them. Gooseneck or fifth wheel makes it more tolerable but 1/2 tons are still not a good choice if heavier towing is a regular activity for the truck.
@@dor1tomcswagger69 Yes, the turbos will overheat, they are build to resist the overheating. Putting it in simple/plain words: if you take a RAPTOR to Baja, you are still going to be able to make it back home, smiling more than your emojis.✌🏼
Well I’ve had my Rebel since July of 2018 and I have had no problems at all. I did have the recalls taken care of but no issues with either. I do have to say I have the 5.7 and I have never gotten anywhere near 17 mpg I average about 12 to 14 at best ( and no I’m not heavy on the throttle). I have a magnaflow car back system and a k&n filter that’s it. I also have noticed no difference in highway mileage by using the aero mode or not. The only complaint sort of is the tires suck in sand. I had my truck on the beach and even at 20lbs. Of air it still plowed I also felt if I stopped on soft sand I would sink ( get stuck). As far as fit and everyday driving this is the best most comfortable truck I have ever owned. I was a tried and true Chevy man for years but this model ram is perfect in almost every way. I have no regrets and would buy again in a heart beat.
@Jonathan Spier Well I can only speak about my truck and all I can say is my truck is basically perfect I have had no issues at all. The only complaint is from day one I get an occasional error for the auto start which has had no effect on the way the truck runs but it is annoying and no the dealer has no clue what causes it ( i do not use the auto start feature so it does not affect me ) All in all it has been the best decision I have made as far as buying a vehicle goes. Hope this helps
A timely video ! Considering purchase of the rebel for some time now. It's well known that all 4x4 trucks regardless of make with gas engines burn more fuel then 2 wheel drive. Glad that you mentioned the rebel recalls which you covered a while back. Please go ahead with the rebel project. It will give me some ideas as to what i could add to the rebel. Your truck reviews are EXCELLENT !
@@lance_r72 14 city 19 highway...those duramax are tougher on milage. But I knew that going in. That new panoramic sunroof is a welcome change from my old Sport
Thanks ThePeddle!!! Hows the ride and seat comfort? Im a big guy like Nathan but have a bad back . Seat comfort is paramount!!! Hows the Duratracs noise wise. Have you added any mods? Keep the sunroof seal moist. It will leak eventually
@@lance_r72 Seats are insanely comfortable compared to the last gen..it's the first thing everyone comments on when they sit in it. The Duratracs are great noise wise except at low speeds every now and then they hum for a moment. I added the new Ram mopar aluminum offroad running boards that look awesome. They have a rough feel and have drainage slits. I also added the mopar roll up bed cover. That's it for now. The interior on these new Rebels need to be seen in person.
For all the folks having the squeaking break issue - FCA finally has a TSB to address the problem. It's been an issue with the new generation 19 RAM 1500s. I have a '19 Limited Crew Cab with the 5.7 non-etorque and Air Suspension in Delmonico Red, with just over 13,000 miles on it. Purchased in Aug of 2018, and I love it. I've had quite a few issues with the uconnect system in mine. The backup camera intermittently stops working (Blue Screen / System Unavailable), stops playing any sound (all inputs stop playing back sound even if i switch inputs or songs with my phone), and random lockups/reboots. Dealer is still trying to fix those issues. I'm waiting on parts for the noisy brakes TSB, we'll see if that fixes that. It also blew the trailer running light fuse a couple times, but that may be an issue with one of the trailers I use. Other than those issues - I love this truck. My two complaints is that I wish it had power folding mirrors for the tow mirrors and I don't like the knob shifter - I'd rather have a column shift. (The new 2500 has both!) Whether I'm driving 20 miles or 2000 miles, it's comfortable and can tow whatever I need it to. 4 adults + snowmobile gear, no problem. 2 people + dogs and a boat, no problem. Car Hauler. Cargo trailer. Snowmobiles/Quads/Motorcycles, it all tows like a dream, and I get a lot of compliments on the truck.
The only thing that would make it even better? That would be the availability of the soon to be returning (with greater power and torque than before!) EcoDiesel powertrain!
Gregory Merritt The RCSB will debut soon into 2020. The reason it hasn’t (yet) is due to one of FCA’s manufacturing facilities undergoing a $1B re-tooling update. Keep holding tight. They are sure to come. If you‘d like to know more about this topic, or anything else regarding the 5th gen RAM, visit 5thgenrams.com 👍🏻
@@Welcometofacsistube that's so incredibly not true that it hardly deserves a response. But lots of contractors and businesses use the base Tradesman 2-door regular and long bed for fleet usage. @@SRTifiedRAM I checked out the web link. Cool page. I bookmarked it. Thank you for the link. BIg fan of Ram trucks. Used to own two different Ramchargers. A 73' and a 79. Wouldn't it be nice if they got on board with a new one? -with the 6.2? ..or Hellcat?
Definitely customize! Would look badass And...tell us how the truck is doing every 25k miles (if anything major occurs). Thanks for all the great videos
Its a V8 Hemi. if you are expecting good millage you are on crack. Its still the same Hemi and that Etorque only works off the start. once you get going it dosen't do anything other then add extra weight and one more thing to break.
By one more thing to break... It's basically a huge alternator and a 48-V system is built more robust than a 24V one. Only thing that needs to be maintained out of the ordinary is the battery pack. I still think E-Torque is just a gimmick to make the truck look better on paper. I doubt it does anything worth paying the premium on the sticker.
@@TheIrishPhantom its an electric motor to give you more torque off the go with to eliminate the minor lag you get from the power transfer from engine to rear end with out having to floor it. an alternator is there to recharge your battery and power the electronics while running. i would really like to know how you figure those are the same thing. also alternators are usually one of the first engine components to fail. so even if that Etorque motor was just a huge alternator it would be an expensive piece to replace down the road. That being said its still a lot more then just a huge alternator.
@@darcyjousset6615 Okay go look at one in person and tell me where the alternator is. If e-torque is just an electric motor, then these engines are creating electricity out of thin air and FCA has just brought us into another age.
Mopar Magic wow bud ok an alternator JUST charges a battery and power the electronics of the vehicle like the radio and sends power to the spark plugs. The Etorque motor does a lot more then that. Yes the alternator was built into it to save space and allow it to power the engine up with out having to burn the extra gas normally required to get the truck going from a dead stop. An alternator does not do that. I get this is hard for you but saying the etorque motor is a huge alternator is like saying a computer is just a huge calculator. Yes it’s that but also so much more. Also replacing an alternator is cheap. How much to replace the Etorque motor? An alternator gets turned by the engine. The etorque motor turns the engine.
@@darcyjousset6615 You know what happens when you apply 3-phase power to an alternator? IT SPINS. I guess that makes it a motor right? Yes any old car alternator can do this lmao. Here learn you something: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0_hVE9GA2es.html
General suggestion for all your "real world" mileage tests: State what gas grade is needed for each truck. Use the prevailing cost per gallon for each required grade to provide a true fuel cost for the loop, not just MPG. A truck that does a little better with MPG, but requires premium fuel, may not be the best performer from an operating cost viewpoint. After all, true fuel cost is what matters, right? Thank you! Ely
5k miles and it's a long term test?? Tell us how it's doing after 50k!! I would hope that a brand new truck with ONLY 5k and cost almost 60K US would be prefect for at least 20k!!
@@iamn360 thanks for the reply Nathan. But for the record it says... "Long Term Update" on the thumbnail of the vid. Just saying I don't wanna fight I love your vids watch all the time. And I'm a multi (mostly new) truck owner.
It's a six month update on a long term test. It's not over, just checking in along the way, I don't know why or how some people just don't understand that.(?!)
I personally don't think there is anything too special about these trucks. Ram should at least put a 2 inch factory lift on them with a little larger tire. Yes, fuel efficiency would depreciate but who buys a Hemi V8 to watch the MPG's? Breaker point would be much better too. I'm still not sold on the quality or dependability of these trucks.
Yes it (Rebel) does but he's talking about going even a bit bigger with 2" instead of the 1" lift currently on it and going up another tire size or two on it as well, and I like that idea a lot along with making it more fuel efficient even with those mods by doing the smartest thing that RAM could possibly do and sticking the soon to be returning (with more horsepower and even more importantly greater torque!) EcoDiesel because that would make this truck more perfect than its ever been! Here's to hoping they do it 👍🤘🏻
I've always loved the idea of a suspension, tire, combo build on a truck. And if one looks at the Ram HD DualSport with SC suspension system that can be found elsewhere on youtube. Then one can see that this is the right approach for getting suspension/wheel/tire system - done right. Now that's with a 2500 series truck. The problem with the kits made for most 1500 series trucks is that they lack the robust design and features that can accomodate 40 inch tires. Now if the suspension company listed above were approached to assist in the design for a 1500 series truck - then one may expect that everything will hold-up - over a longer period of time. Ultimately, if longevity is not considered as being as crucial as it ought to be. Because a mediocre lifted suspension system with a 40" wheel/tire combination - can be too extreme and bring ruin to the 1500 series truck. If I have it correct, the Ram Rebel is a 1500 series truck that comes stock with 33" tires and it should have been designed to come with 35" tires. I suspect that on a 1500 series truck that 37" wheel/tire / lift / suspension system may be the "end-of-the-line" in a capacity that will work - without too many issues. My initial thoughts are that 40" wheel/tires/suspension set-up will be a tad too much. But it'll be interesting to see how the upgrades plays out. As I'd love to be proven wrong.
Don't cry too much about the front camera it does have the park sense system which does a good job of keeping you from running into stuff, unless you are rock crawling and looking out for offroad debris. Cheers!
What kind of comparison was that a raptor versus a rebel. The rafter wasn’t built to tow or for payload it was built as a desert runner. The rebel is basically a half ton with some off-road goodies added. Wouldn’t an FX four with a 3.5 L be a more fair comparison. And we know if you didn’t adhere to the speed limit rule that 3.5 L would smoke that rebel up the hill
It has more off road goodies than an FX4. The FX4 suspension is only fractionally better than stock for off roading. The Rebel is a step above that, with the Raptor being well above that.
Wow, 6 months old and 2 safety recalls. $59,000 and the steering and brakes could fail ! What a bargain ! Lol. That's why you don't buy a vehicle because it has a pretty interior. Buy one that is mechanically sound...Nissan or Toyota !!
"Lift kit and 40's." ROFL YES!! Looking forward to the "Rebel-Rouser" series! This is one of my favorite trucks, just wish I could have bought one, too. :)
No front camera is what I complain about as well. Since you intend on modifying things on this truck, there you go. Definitely item #1 to enhance it with. I like the idea of putting on the bigger tires. lol Louder and or a better exhaust soundtrack would do it justice as well. Don't forget about your extra fuel cell since it's MPG is no good anyhow. Can increase range. And I am sure there are plenty of other great ideas out there. Winches, roll bars, light bars..etc.
8k miles in 3 months on mine and it’s been great. Sure the gas consumption is what it is, it’s holding up well and it doesn’t have an easy life. The electric motor just makes it smooth. Towing a heavy trailer out of a muddy field is so much better then my old Toyota.
I like the New Ram, they refreshed the interior, exterior and made it roomier. On the other hand GM added new engines and new body materials. I will say GMC was late to the party with that tailgate and is making commercials like it's something new. Ram did add a good amount of technology but Ford already offered it years ago. In conclusion the Ram has a great interior but it's not a game changer. The Silverado and Sierra interiors are a let down but they brought more changes than Ram with their new trucks.
And once that new Duramax diesel 3 liter i6 arrives (any month, shit, hopefully any day now) that's really going to give the others a run for their money! I hope that new motor is really going to be a game changer for GM in the half ton segment. I'm just glad that they are smart enough to be offering it as an option on every trim level unlike Ford and RAM that only offer their diesels on some of the trims. RAM NEEDS TO make their soon to be returning EcoDiesel available on the Rebel package most specifically!
My 09 civic with 160k never had any issues. That’s a long term update haha still appreciate you guys giving us an update can’t wait to see this thing modded! I would call this the year of Ram for sure but the reliability is still a major concern of mine, so I’ll be getting the Chevy. Not as reliable as a Tundra but at least the Chevy is ‘good enough’, I feel like the Ram will fall apart within 25k. Nice truck new for sure, just not reliable and if you spend 70k you kinda want the thing to last til your in the dirt.
Magna Carta Sam Adam's well I can see many full-size 4x4 crew cab offerings for sub-30k. If you need the offroad ability that’s cool, but 7 grand can pay for a lot of gas.
When are you lifting it. Roman said that you guys were gonna lift it so thats why you guys didn’t get the air suspension option. I hope you guys mod this thing. That would be bad ass and a nice series to watch
Wha'?! 23 gallons of gasoline?!! No way. I'd never get that. My F150 36 gallon tank has spoiled me. I like the steel springs on Ram! Airbags will fail.
I thought it would be the same for me as well when I traded in my 36 gallon F-150, but when I bought my ram rebel, I don't need to fill up that often. I don't need the big gas tank anymore.
I have a black 2019 Rebel, 5.7 w/ eTorque. So far, the only lift available at the moment is the 2" leveling kit. And mopar has yet to release a CIA for the 19 models. My mods: Borla Atak exhaust, 2" leveling kit, N-Fab Steps, 20" off-road wheels, 33" defender R/T tires, and a ceramic coat. Anything bigger than 33" would rub.
I'm in a 2018 F-250 and had been to the dealer 4 times in 4k. I'm at 8k now and it has a check engine light on again. It's unfortunately common these days for all manufacturers. Co-worker is going through multiple issues with his 2500 Denali Duramax.
@@shockracer I don't know if common is the right word. I'm not sure if you meant full size trucks as the only metric to consider, but both my new Tacoma and 4Runner, both 12k+ miles so far have had zero issues. I feel like it's fairly unreasonable to spend the amount on these vehicles they are asking and be comfortable with the quality issues they are putting out.
@@liftbikerun Remember when the new Tacoma came out and was constantly having issues for over a year? Toyota never makes all new vehicles so they aren't a good measuring stick. They don't innovate, nor do they push any boundaries.
Nice review. I work at a Chrysler Ram dealership and get to see and drive lots of vehicles. I had an 18 eco diesel. Good truck. Great fuel mileage. We had a white Rebel on out lot since early April. They dropped the price with dealer discounts and rebates. Still sat. It was about to get dealer traded. I noticed the discounts plus my FCA employe discount. I stepped up bought it. Its so far great. Fuel mileage well so far is poor but I have 100 miles on it. I will miss the mileage of the ECO diesel. I can’t wait to take to my local forest roads. The eco was a 4x4 and the front spoiler scrapped on every dip in the road. This one won’t. Keep up the great reviews.
If the Rebels safety chain point of attachment is sooooo much better than the Raptor as Roman so frequently mentions, why do we see those buckles between the hitch and the chains @ 7:06 in the video?
I have 155 000 kms on my Taco and has not broken down yet. So in 8000 kms on the RAM....well that is barely broken in. I expect my Tacoma to easily make 400 000 kms plus before any major problems.
I put 17k miles on my Fj Cruiser in 10 months and it didn’t broke down, going from this video perspective I guess I’m doing pretty good considering my truck is 10 years old XD
LastStarFoster well I’m not a ram guy but my 17 Ecoboost also has a 23 gallon tank and when towing heavy I’m not passes many stations either. I can’t believe ford and ram even offer a 23 gallon tank. Probably my only regret on purchase. I wasn’t even paying attention when I bought it cuz my 12 Ecoboost had a 36 gallon tank
+ Andre, I have a 2014 Ram 1500 4x4, Its got the 5.7 hemi. No E-Torque obviously. So some cool power adders. I did a full length exhaust. Headers wo cats on back. Now I know you guys won't do that. My suggestion is put the Flowmaster Outlaw catback system on it. Best sound with that muffler and exhaust pipes. I love mine. If you do that the Hemi growls with a purpose. Under the hood the Mopar Cold Air intake is OK. The S@B cai, or the K@N series seems to really open up some air. Also look to replace the Throttle Body. Now I know you can only do so much. But check with Mopar and see what doesn't void the warranty. Oh and I do believe Mopar will allow a re-tune on the ECU that won't void the warranty. Combine all of these and you guys will be very happy with the old girl.
I'll like it even better if they finally put the EcoDiesel in it once that motor makes its return later this year. RAM Rebel with the EcoDiesel = THE perfect truck! Do it RAM, DO IT!
@@TFLtruck thank you kind sirs. Yeah i thought it sounded kind of fitting. Specially if you lift it and toss 40's on her lol. All though with 40's Monsterhawk might work too lol
Seems like the perfect all-rounder. It's only flaw is fuel economy, but really most lifted/off-roady trucks suck at that, just hard moving all that weight and those big tires down a road through wind
That is such girly Offroading. Off-roading to me is finding the best route you can in rough terrain going as fast as you possibly can. I can drive any vehicle down that hill at that crawler pace.
Loose tie rod bolts on a -5000 mile trucks tells me that A. Ram's quality control is a bit lacking or B. the Ram rebel isn't suited to off roading as much as previously thought. I don't recall the old raptor ever having suspension issues, but i could be mistaken.
It's probably a Chrysler 1st year thing. There's lots of stupid issues with the new Jeep Wrangler too. Chrysler needs to hire someone from Honda's QC management to go around smacking people with clipboards until all the little silly kinks get worked out.
@@douglas685 I love FCA but I will admit first year is a nightmare. Wait till 2020 most the problems will disappear. That being said I had to get a 2019 for the screen and interior. Haven't had any issues save for some Uconnect stuff they had to update. But I know a lot of people did especially with the stereo speakers.
I seem to recall an episode recently where they were testing a new F250 and a hose connection or something broke....that, and another episode with a new Ford Something or the other was failing mechanically on the downhill Ike Gauntlet testing. Sometimes things do break - even with a 'new' vehicle...
The truck never broke down. Not sure what video you watched. If you are referring to the recalls, FCA will recall the tiniest thing. They constantly do research on there own products after release. I find it reassuring honestly. Sure it's annoying to bring it in but if it makes me safer then it's worth it to me.
@@MrComputerCoder The tiniest thing? One of the recalls is for the brake pedal disconnecting from the master cylinder and another is for loose steering locknuts.
So, in other words, if you choose the diesel engine for the increased MPG, and you include the hula dancer on the dashboard, you have the perfect truck?
If you had gotten the air ride suspension, you would have broken down on that winter run. My 2016 has lost its air ride suspension multiple times this winter due to the cold. FCA doesnt care about it and wont do anything about it. So the same defective system is on the new 2019’s
Ben Stone how do tie rod bolts come loose in the first place. They have a king nut and a cotter pin to keep the nit from backing off. Sounds like Sounds like shorty Quality control
I think this truck with air suspension and the eco diesel will be a great truck, but without the cameras I think that is only thing that’s stopping me. That and the 12” touch screen, I don’t want to be eating food or have wet or greasy fingers from working and try to turn on the air or anything to that screen. In real life it will need cleaning every other day.
Man you guys are tempting me with that gorgeous truck, but I swore I'd never have another. Rams are like that hot girl that seems perfect in every way and then after a couple years later she goes nuts, stabs you, and steals all you money.
Has the Etorque helped your mileage around town? My understanding is it doesn't help the hwy mileage. My 15 Ram with 10ply tires does better than 17mpg on the hwy.
After owning three generations of Sierra, my next truck wont be a gm, very good chance it will be a ram rebel. Waiting to see what the next tundra will be like.
Hi, Andre, hate to interrupt. I am just telling you that I will buy a fully loaded Ram Rebel, but this time with the air suspension and a 33 gallon fuel tank.
5k miles in 6 months is nothing. My Power Wagon hits 12 months on July 2nd. It is about to roll over 30k. I absolutely love my PW. The only one I have seen around Phoenix with a fine layer of AZ Pinstripes.
Can't wait to see it lifted on 40s when you get it lifted, you should look in to getting easily removable mud flaps. You don't want to throw rocks at people. Also having them be removable, you can go off road and not rip them off on rocks.
I BOUGHT A REBEL,. NOT LOOKING FOR A ROCK CRAWLER, IF I WAS I WOULD HAVE BOUGHT THE JEEP,. I BOUGHT THE REBEL FOR THE SUPREME RIDE QAULITY!!! ITS AWSOME
So six months, and less than six thousand miles. I'm glad you guys didn't call this a review, because it seems like the vehicle is being under utilized. Now, I'm aware that you have other vehicles to drive and you're always traveling; but if this is going to be a 'long term unit,' you should really be putting real world miles on it. My 16 Durango is over 50k, my 14 Dart is over 60k, my 11 Nitro is over 60k, my 99 Dakota is over 247k. I would really love to see you guys utilize this a lot before its traded or sold on the next long term.
Not too surprised on fuel economy. That’s really close to my 14’ if not the same. Same engine no etorque of course. I even run a little larger 34x11 (275/65R20) tire.
Thinking about buying a new rebel 2020, thanks for all your reviews on the truck! It’s helped me decide if I should get a truck or keep my Jeep rubicon. Love all the videos keep up the great work!
do a city mpg run with nothing but stop lights and traffic...thats where you will go from dragging that electronic junk around with no benefit to taking full advantage of the mild hybrid system...heck id be happy with you guys utilizing it at all, in fact if you want i could use it in Tucson traffic which is stop and go with motocross track style bumps and potholes
