I started to learn to play guitar in my early 50s (I’m 65 now) and this was a song that I learned and now I realise I’ve been playing it wrong! Now because of your excellent lesson I can now play it correctly, although trying to relearn a song that you have been playing for over 10 years isn’t easy. Thanks for a great lesson on a fantastic song👍👍👍 Jim in Scotland 🏴
Well my first comment on how great this lesson is was after getting through the first bar; now I have completed this lesson in it's entirety and all I can say is this was just fantastic; my picking, strumming, chord changes, everything! is improved and I feel great about the progress I am making. I first picked up a guitar when I was 10 years old in '65; it was from Sears. I played the same few chords forever, even after I got my Guild in '74, but then along comes RU-vid and Howard and my wife getting me a Martin Mahogany Guitar for my 65th birthday a couple years ago, and I'm kicking it up some notches! Thanks again for this lesson on such a great song; Howard, this was an absolute gem of a tutorial in so many ways. Many players are going to get so much better thanks to you!
Thank you so much for such a wonderful post. I'm so glad you enjoyed the tutorial... I hope you continue to enjoy the channel. All the best to you - Howard
I agree with others that this is the best lesson on the internet for this song. You explain the details that everyone else misses, and that give it that singular sound that make it the timeless classic it is. Which motivates me to challenge you to do the same with another classic acoustic piece that nobody has gotten quite right in my opinion - Ramble On. :) .
So far, I find your instruction much, much better than others I’ve encountered!! Great job! Now if I could do this as good as you I’d be a happy camper…
HH...SUPERB lesson in so many ways!! Your clarity, phrase-by-phrase instruction and review, picking technique, etc all combine to make this a stunning example of how the same song can come out so much better with the right attention to detail and the right teacher! I've recently returned to guitar after many decades and kept saying 'someday, I'll take it up again'. This lesson was a huge motivator and now has me fired up to take on more of your teachings. Thank you very much!!!! Quick question: is there a way to get a copy of the tabs? When I first listened to the lesson, I didn't think I'd be able to do this, but with your guidance and the crystal clear tabs, I surprised myself!
