My female was rescued and she just doesn't run away she's incredibly loyal and obedient. I've had dogs all my life (70 years) and she's definitely the best dog that I've had.

Thank you so much for this video. Our 5 mos. Old has done this twice in the past 3 weeks. Our hearts were pounding. Luckily she likes to chase us and that's how we got her back in the house. We put a runner up because she seems to find a way to get out of our fence. She hates it but it keeps her safe. We love her so much.❤️

Josh, I wish that I had seen this video before May 18th, 2020 when my female Jack Russel ran away forever.

I live deep in the mountains on the border of Kentucky in Virginia and my little Jack Russell has a tendency to run around our property aimlessly chasing squirrels and other rodents . He ran off on me today and had to track him down on the top of a literal mountain in the woods! Him being my first dog , I get really worried at times and really at a miss for guidance . I hope to use some of this to keep my little dude safe!

I found the best recall method for my jack russell was to have pieces of chicken and saying "what's this" and giving him a piece every time. I did it constantly on walks even when he was close by. It meant that when he went into bushes, I could say it and he'd dart back every time. Up to him being 5 or 6 I would go on a bike coz he loved to run for a mile or so no problem.

If I run away Mom will come...whose training who now? My 8 wk J.R.T. mix already likes to have Mom run and chase him...I love you SOOOO much Mom. Fortunately for Mom I've found your channel as it truly is amazing how quick these little guys are.

Yesterday, my Jack Russell and I were just getting into the car after getting it serviced. As I was about to get in, Oscar my Jack, flashed out of the car as fast as an eel in water! He saw a rabbit. A person can watch many videos about the speed and agility of this breed, but nothing prepares you for witnessing it live. In a nano second he was just a spot in the distance chasing the rabbit. He crossed 3 lanes of highway to get to a field! I was almost in tears fearing he would be killed in traffic. He was like a heat seeking missile with the rabbit. He then turned left, crossed 3 lanes of eastbound traffic crossed the meridian and crossed 3 lanes of the westbound traffic! By the time I got to him he turned back and did the same thing again! Eventually he returned to the car on his own. As the song says “freedoms just another word for nothing left to lose” and this little dog bet it all. The mentality of Jacks must be understood if you want to own one. I thought I was prepared, boy was I wrong. Love this little dog so much but he’s on the lead now wherever we go. I believe even if I had a raw steak I could not have attracted him. It’s just built into their DNA. Thanks for your care and content! 🐕 ♥️

I'm glad I stumbled upon your Channel! I inherited a Jack Russell from my younger cousin because she had a newborn and thought he would be too much for that situation. His name is Simba and I have had him for three years now which makes him about 5 and I had no idea that I needed to be in Olympic champion shape to keep up with him! His name is Simba and he is the best! A complete knucklehead!

We ran the other way, excited, to get our JR to chase and catch us.

Our Jackie has run off with our retriever. Zoie is 9 months old. It’s only because someone left the gate open. We live out in the country so lots of woods to run. We have found them.

"I run away and it was the best time of my Life" 😄 My problem on JR #2 is that I've had to move into a property with no fence and it's by a main road. It was either this or homelessness and it's a Fab home for 1 year minimum BUT Buddy is becoming very down and despondent. I Do have an SUV but travelling an hour or more a day is pretty tough on me but I Need A solution. This is a rental so I'm kinda limited but my 1st JR Toto had the expanse of 5 acres fenced and was very loving and was my companion dog thru cancer. Buddy came to me at 8 weeks with serious separation anxiety and has major meltdowns with towns and shops. Issue is that I've lost all my family including Daughter with deaths and my 1st JR Was put down last year age 14 and I can't bear to part with Buddy. I'm pretty active even after the big C and work from home in fashion but this little guy is draining my mental energy as it's all one way, me to him BUT I see a heart of gold in him. I'm saving a deposit for my own place in a year so there's light but obviously a year is a long time for a JR. Advice ? PS, I'm single and he picks up on my PTSD but unlike Toto who looked after me and out for me Buddy is just totally distant UNLESS I'm taking him out

What sometimes works is to run away from the dog. They might instinctively start chasing you instead. That's how I was able to recall my dog sometimes, when recall didn't work. Anyway, you get to know the dog. Right now, I'm pretty confident that I'm able to tell when something catches her eye. What I tend to do when that happens, is to make noise and throw her a toy. If I have a squeaky toy, I would use that, throw it, but not right at her, somewhere where I can also go for it, and race her to the toy. As far as I see things, you can't break a dog's natural instinct of chasing pray or chasing some scents. I don't try that anymore, but instead I focus on how I'm able to use those instincts in my advantage. If the dog likes to chase things, then I want it to chase me and leave the squirrel. I think that you're doing a mistake by going with everything "JRTs like to do that" and "JRT should do that". While there are some general characteristics of the breeds, each dog is an individual that might prefer some things more than others. Is more important of working with what that dog likes instead of what most dogs of that breed likes.

My PJR got loose when she was 12 weeks old and took off. I chased after her screaming and realized she was not coming back and so I turned around and ran away from her calling her, and she stopped and turned around and chased me right onto the porch.Whew.

Hysterical! Lol Bowie Dean is my 2nd. and nothing like My Riley. I’d be out in traffic and in pj’s. with Riley. I’m on an extremely very busy street. . Bowie has broken leashes and collars but, thank god he comes right back to me. I’m looking for different place to live. COVID messed it all up. A harness works best but he gets them and then are useless. My point being each and every JRT has a unique personality and just like Forest Gump, they are a box of chocolates and you don’t know what you’ll get! I could use help crate training. Bowie just turned 2.

We also have an Apple Air tag locator on our dog's collar to help locate him. It can't track to our phone while he's running but can find him (locally) when he stops!

My little girl who, by the way, is a dead ringer for yours (except my Angel still has her tail) ran away just once. I'd just got her and she was on heat. Her boyfriend is a small black Chihuahua who is very keen on her. When she took off two years ago several locals tracked her down and she was back within an hour. Nowadays she's much more obedient and comes to me when I call but as you said the best way to get her back is to go the opposite direction and she'll come a runnin'

My jack took off chasing a squirrel heading for the street with a car coming. I was so nervous. I yelled Jack stop jack stop jack stop. Then he stopped and turned around just before the street. Took 3 commands before he listened. Normally it’s just one. He had squirrel on the brain. Another time when the gate had been left open by a utility worker jack ran out. He has a dog door in the back yard so I didn’t know he was gone. Had been like 30 minutes since I saw him. Looked in the back saw the gate open. I ran to the front yard to track him down and there he was on the front porch staring at the front door for me to let him in. He was such a good dog. He passed at 16 years old. Now I have a 12 week old jack pup. I hope I can get her to listen like my old buddy jack. I love these dogs. They give so much enjoyment but also cause stress lol. Keeping them safe is all I really care about. I sure miss my old friend Jack Russell.

Love JRTs and Beagles aswell we owned one of each, fenced in yard helped in the early months, till training was complete. However the Beagle would dig under fence ! She was Hodini for sure. Buddy my JRT rip my friend would chew on all the table legs mop boards foot board of bed ate thru dry wall and seat of my leather couch.... We almost shipped him of to my son who at the time was at UF ! Go Gators ! But we finally broke his bad habits and became BDE Best dog ever ! Lots of Buddy stories I could share 😂😁

Haha! Sonic The Hedgehog! Yep! Happened today and she yanked the lead straight out of my hand and I dropped my phone. Luckily my phone is okay and we were already back in the yard.

I’ve also found your advice to be very helpful and solid my sweetheart used to take care of a jack Russell terrier for a friend of ours who switched to night shift and couldn’t adequately take care of him. His name is little Jackson, little Jack, or little dude as I call him. He is just a joy to have and he grows on me day by day week by week month by month. He’s five years old is he too old to train? I love Jack Russells there’s so full of character and spunk. Little jack or little dude loves us both, but mom is his person and he’ll grrr at me if I get too close but hilariously, he will lick my hand while he’s growling at me giving me kisses while he’s letting me know to be careful and that I’m touching his person but loves me, I really enjoy Luna and yeah you’re right Jack Russells are the whiniest but they have so much character. I just love them. He splits his time almost half and half between mom and me; he’ll go hang out with mom and lay down with her and then he’ll come and do the same with me. Thats about it I just wanted to say what I said and thank you keep up the good content. Look forward to anything new. We’re trying to buy a home and I want to get knowledgeable by watching your videos about more than one jack Russell. I think they more have the 'urge to explore' rather than 'run away' if well cared for! Make sure they have your number on a collar ID disc so you can be contacted if they are found by neighbours. A plastic pot with treats to shake noisily can attract them back - and Always reward their return home - however frustrating that can be!!

So do you recommend any tracking device? I adopted 2.5 years old dog, and 4 months now he is on a training 15metres leash. when nothing is interesting around he have no problem with recall but when he see a cat squirell another dog or electric scooter he is very excited and ignore my commands. I'm afraid to let him free. Should I do it gradually ? Or just don't do it?

I have a football(soccer ball),outside she spends hours just chasing it around until it deflates,then it gets demolished and time to get another.

My jack ran away I left her at my parents we had a wedding to goto she was gone for 20 hrs looked forever finally at 430 am we go to bed at 530 in the morning she shows up in my parents back yard

What is Luna mixed with. I noticed she has longer legs than jack russels. We got one from an animal shelter that was found on a run in a busy street. Our Joey looks just like Luna.

Mine climb fences all the time. They are free range dogs, but they like AC and heat in the winter. They will always be your best friend even when someone steals them when they find a new home. Shame on nabbers that do this.
