Hey Rob even though it’s an older video I still catch myself coming back to all of these older vids. Yet again another great how to video. One request I have is the next time you tear into a spare 12v or work on a customers truck that isn’t having any machine head work could you make a video of replacing or installing/ and or proper “placement” of valve seals (non top hat style). I’ve looked everywhere on you tube and can’t seem to find a good video on it. Thanks again buddy

I see a lot of people use air in the injector hole this looks way easier I’m glad I seen this my question is, is there still a risk of a valve dropping and having to pull the head I know it sounds like a stupid question but I really don’t want to pull my head again lol Thanks!

If the piston is a tdc there is no chance of the piston feeling in. With air there is the chance.

Thanks for the video. Im trying to install 60lb valve springs, but it seems that the keepers aren't moving. Can i cause damage to the piston to keep compressing the compression tool? Would it help to run the engine up to temperature, then try again? Thanks.

Love the videos Rob would you mind going about checking piston to valve clearances in a 12v due to ether machine work or aftermarket cams ?? Also what are your thoughts on aftermarket cams and where they would be beneficial ?? Thank you for the educational vids really appreciate it.

Enjoyed the video. If Im Doing the 60lb valve springs only because I'm going to do 3/4 k governor springs, can I just replace the head bolts with new or do I have to upgrade to head studs? Thanks.

You can just use head bolts if you want

doing springs right now and i (should) have the motor at tdc on cylinder 1 based on the cam gear timing pin, does that mean cylinder 6 is also tdc? also from there how do i verify tdc on the rest of the cylinders?

Hey Rob, I need your advice on valve stem seals. I put 60lbs springs on my 97 12v a few weeks ago and so I replaced my seals while I was there. I now noticed 2 weeks later that my truck is burning oil. I pull my rocker covers off and every seal is popped off 🤬. I felt every one of them pop on on install. Is it because I used inferior parts? What should I use to replace them again?

I noticed during my spring and seal install that some of the valve stems have an extra groove just above the keeper groove. Is there a reason for this??? The ones without the groove were exhaust and grooved ones were intake.

Old video I know, but when installing new valve seals, do you need to use a sleeve/protector so the groove on the valve stem for the keepers does not damage the rubber seal when sliding them on? Cummins has a tool for this very reason, but it is ungodly expensive for what it is. - I’ve heard of people use things such as straws and heat shrink.

Depends if the valve has a shape edge. If they new and been sharp edge taken off. But you can buy plastic cheap ones.

@@CUTTERUPROB Appreciate the reply. This is for a 2016 24v w/ 127k miles on the clock. Getting ready to install studs, Injectors, Manton valve spring kit, push rods and bridges. Along with lift pump and CP3. 🍻

@@BoostedVQUR on the 24v you shouldn’t really need a sleeve they don’t be burred up much. But they don’t hurt if you want to get one

tdc 1 and 6 you can use the timing pin on the back of the timing case

Just a maintenance thing as thing get worn it needs to be set. Or if doing any engine work ( I.e doing a head gasket)

are those head bolts torque to yield ? can you reuse them ? responsibly I mean. ? Thats the only turn off for me to do the springs is fuking with them head bolts , gives me the eeeby geee byessss

You can reuse as long as there not out of spec
