Here's how I record 3DS games 

Thank you! There are alternative methods, but this is very much the one I like using!

They do a good job! I thank Stephen Georg because I really liked his audio setup (although I did not get an 18i8).

@@YourPalRal nice, I thank my uncle, because he handed me down all his old audio equipment that he was gonna just throw out, but when he found out I was into audio engineering, sound design, and amateur music production, he very kindly gifted me his old gear.

@@YourPalRal indeed! I’m just glad I was able to rescue that audio equipment from the eternal damnation to the closet realm, it’s the same audio gear I use to this day lol

It's the only reason I use it, haha! I know there's other uses for it, but I am nowhere near capable enough to use it outside of recording audio!

That is definitely an option, but I have not done any homebrew stuff on my regular N3DS or my capture one so I'm a bit hesitant to do so.

Which homebrew Apps are you using? Didi you Stream to a Windows PC and then Duplikate the Screen to TV?

Actually I didn't have a computer until I was probably around 10 years old, and didn't have internet until about a year later. I'm 28 at the time of commenting just to give you an idea of my age! I will say I recognize that having grown up in an era where technology is continuously getting better at a fast rate has made it easy to understand compared to older folks, but I can also see where they're coming from with me not understanding quite a few things myself with newer technology!

I've been a big fan of Xenoblade Chronicles ever since it came out on the Wii back in 2012 in the US! Glad you appreciate the background!

True, but I just prefer this method. Streaming it to my computer means there is a possibility of wireless interference that I wouldn't experience with the way I do things.

What software do you recommend? I've been trying to look up some but no luck.

I've been using Bandicam for a long time and just haven't bothered to fully switch over to OBS, haha.

I do not own a PS5.

I have used it for streaming on the rare occasion I happen to do that. I do want to stream more!

@@YourPalRal alright, do you also know how to get audio through the 3ds whether CC or snicker stream? I'm trying for myself and it's not going well. 😅

@@lisabarnes924 I do not. Before I had my audio interface to record the 3DS' audio I would just connect the audio cable from it to my computer and have mixed results.

@@lisabarnes924it’s impossible sadly (via snickerstream at least), I just plug my 3ds headphone jack to the line in port of my pc to record it.

That is something I researched as an alternative to the method I use, but I still like the way I do things. Even though you can't record audio that way, you can follow the audio part of my video since that's done independent from recording footage!

It definitely is, but being able to record on the 3DS has been nice so far!

It's just a 3.5mm to dual 1/4in cable.

@@DDX098 I just ordered one off Amazon. Not sure what the brand is. Maybe in the future I can record a more in-depth video, but I feel this one covers the bare minimum of what I do!

My audio interface. Both my mic and my N3DS go into it and I record both audio at the same time.

I bought the N3DS separate then sent it overseas to Merki to have it modded.

The New 2DS or New 3DS are good upgrades in that line of handhelds!

It should if you're still using the headphone jack of the capture unit. You should be able to record anything that has a 3.5mm port.

I don't remember off the top of my head, but if you search for "Merki 3DS capture" then you should be able to find the site. Not sure if they have any capture card installations available at the moment.

I had it modded to have a capture card inside it.

Do you mean that you have an interface? If so then if there's a way to connect speakers to one of the outputs then I imagine that's how you get audio to be heard.

The only other way is jailbreaking it to have homebrew software that connects to a program that displays to a computer, but that has its own problems and I don't think it's as reliable as physically modding a 3DS.

I shipped my N3DS over to Merki. Look them up on Google. I believe at the time of typing this they are accepting preorders for more capture board installations.

Nope. Modding the 3DS is only for capturing footage. You do need the audio interface to record the audio. Alternatively, you can just plug a 3.5mm cable from your 3DS to a 3.5mm microphone port on your computer and record audio with a program like Audacity if you strictly want 3DS audio and nothing more.

@@YourPalRal hmm, ok, well I do want to do commentary and I do have an audio interface, so would I need to record the ds audio separately from my mic audio?

@@skybeckgamer Yes. An audio interface would be good for that.

I've been using Bandicam way before I used OBS. It's simple and does what I need it to. Maybe in the future I'll switch!

If I can I would prefer to use actual hardware.

The downside to using Citra is the lack of a good touchscreen. Even after wasting money getting a 2-in-1 laptop, you can't really hold the controller and screen the same way.

@@moddedinkling4168 Yes, that is also a reason why I prefer using actual hardware! I can't imagine playing something like Pokémon Ranger on an emulator!

@@YourPalRal I personally tried playing Metroid: Samus Returns on an emulator. Being a game that required the touchscreen for certain abilities, it became very cumbersome

Yes, a regular DS can also be modded in a similar way.

@@YourPalRaloh I just meant capturing with a normal unmodded ds.

The next alternative would probably be to emulate it. There's multiple ways to record 3DS footage, but at some point you're gonna have to figure out what method words best for you.

I prefer this method. Something about using an actual 3DS feels nice.

@@tl1882 The problem with recording wirelessly is that there are potential issues with latency and whatnot that I'd rather avoid. A wired connected, no matter what, will always be better than wireless.

Technically adding a capture board isn't jailbreaking. I could use an emulator, but I prefer using an actual N3DS. Plus, my setup doesn't require much more effort than using a capture card for other consoles.

You don't necessarily need all of this stuff. This is just my particular setup and one I feel gives really good quality all around! There are other alternatives to record 3DS footage.
