No, but I'm too old. I do know many who've worked at Costco for years. Especially Michele. She has a daughter who is twelve now. I knew Michele when she was pregnant. If I wasn't married........
If the floor surface was of a softer material than concrete? Maybe. But the standing and walking on concrete floors can exact a toll on the body/legs over the years.
You have no idea how great it is to work for Costco ! It’s fun ! Don’t judge me ! I’ve been living in America for 20 years and I’ve felt that three times : Pride !
Former employee here. You get a raise every 1040 hours regardless of your department. However service clerks (deli, bakery, meat, tire center, etc) get extra $$. Once you top out and are no longer eligible for raises you get a bonus check every 6 months. My supervisor told me a f/t employee with 25 years of service will receive 2 bonus checks of $4500 every 6 months. That was in 2020 when I first started. Wouldn't be surprised if they increased it now. Overall a very good place to work.
Say you get $4500 every 6 months. That would mean a raise is equivalent to $4.32/hr. So you are actually getting ripped off if you work there for 25 years. You would rather get a raise than a bonus check.
@@wewhoareabouttodiesaluteyo9303 true but how many retail companies give you any additional money once you top out? I'm sure there might be a few out there but before this never heard of it.
@@krushmoto1 Probably none, but at that point, I would hope you are executive management making more than a topped out below the line employee making bonuses. Or else, work in a different line as a supervisor making $100k per year. 25 years is a long time to be stuck in a position where pay is topped out and the bonuses are that low
I’m a forklift driver in Canada. For 8 years I have been with Costco. The new “top rate” is not $26 hr. But $29 and change. With a $1 premium on top for drivers. So slightly over $30 hr
I grew up with sams…….and then i moved to miami……costco was less than 3 miles from my home…. I have not been back to Wallyworld or sams! In south florida, they have pretty rude service overall. And yet costco & publix shine! The employees are very helpful at both places. I have NEVER had a bad day from costco or publix! They are the best! The fact that they take care of their employees is pretty important to me. Most businesses do not understand that when you take care of your employees, they bring it back in business….the helpfulness from many of them, brings me back every time! I am Team Costco!!! Love it ! Just got back from them a few minutes ago…..found a great deal on the mini weber grill….i am so happy that they are good to their employee/families!!
@@frankjanvari8650 great! Because they will never get it! I’m tired of paying for the welfare on their employees because they don’t pay a fair wage! I’m not the only one! People seem to think that Walmart is all powerful… yes they are… but years ago, woolworths was in a similar position. Where are they now!?
Been working at Walmart for 2 years. I finally quit and went to Costco. Best decision ever!! Couldn't agree more with your comment. They truly do care about their employees, unlike Walmart who treated me like trash and something to be tossed away. God is good!
Just because you work for Costco doesn't mean you are going to have it easy. Hell, you are going to be working hard and even former employees who had to open and close say it's hard work, but at least you are getting the pay that you rightfully deserve. That's why they have low turnover. You treat your employees right with good pay and benefits you will have high productivity, low turnover, and you see happier employees. Everyone talks about the stereotypical miserable Walmart employee, but you never really hear about a "miserable" Costco employee.
Almost every costco employee ive seen and encountered seemed like they hated their jobs lol None of them were ever friendly or helpful either Most of them honestly seemed like they should probably be locked up somewhere
Love Costco’s products & their service is amazing! Everyone working there that I have had contact with here in West Spfld., Ma has a positive, “can do attitude! They are happy & go out of their way to help you! Their employees at this store are phenomenal! Love this store & their rotisserie 🍗! Yum! Yum! Yum! Best anywhere, hands down! I so love Costco & so does my whole family! Everyone I know shops there!
One aspect many people don't consider when working at Costco: The concrete floor inflicts a physical toll on the body and legs of the employees; as much of the work is with standing and walking on such floors. It may not seem like much at first, but physical ailments can develop in the feet, legs, joints, back, and hips when doing the walking and standing on the concrete floors at full-time employment status over the months and years.
The stockers have it worse. On their feet all day pulling heavy pallets. Speaking from experience. I have developed pain in places that have never had pain in. I’m only 2 years in.
The concrete floors are unforgiving. I wear blundestones boots with heel and arch support insoles, compression socks, and knee compression. I use my benefits for self/preventative care. Chiropractor, podiatrist, preventive physical therapy. It's all available. 9years here, still standing. No other company would provide the employee benefits package we have.
it's one of the best-paying retail stores. I get paid $20.50 per hour and $30.25 an hour on Sundays. Out of the 3 retail jobs I've worked, Costco is the best paying one, but it's the most stressful one because you get 3x the amount of customers compared to a regular grocery store just because its Costco.
Minimum wage is what the REQUIRED minimum wage is by State or Federal law. What you are calling "minimum wage" is actually called "BASE" or "Starting" wage. The STARTING wage art Costco is $17.00. The minimum Federal wage is $7.25, in Maryland the State minimum wage is $15.00.
@@jicalzad yeah that is pretty good for 25 hrs just hope they don't force you to work 25 hrs. I mean there is other places that pay more still. I mean where I work you'd make about 60 working 25 hrs a week as average pay is about 40 an hour.
because Costco uses memberships, customers tend to keep buying because they are afraid of losing if they don't make good use of the membership, so Costco's economy tends to be stable and it can pay its employees well.
@@JamesMiller-lq5rd job w/ healthcare benefits and retirement package, what more do u expect for someone w/ a GED or high school degree? Plus, the longer u work there increases the potential for raises/bonuses
Costco service is hard to beat and their products are usually top notch. However, in the past maybe 8 years beef quality has changed and choices have been lowered as many warehouses have shifted from keeping regularly stocked items to stocked part time or by season. You have to wonder how anyone in management can consider French's mustard as a seasonal item which they did with our warehouses after carrying the item for decades year round. Then, they completely stopped carrying it and now year round sell Hunt's mustard in a combo pack with ketchup and relish so, if all you want is mustard, you're out of luck. Same happened to Lawry's seasoned Salt and seasoned pepper. Pepper is long gone and the seasoned salt comes and goes. The cheap 9" paper plates that sold for about 1 cent each in large quantities like 1,000 or 1,500, disappeared too and got replaced with very expensive Dixie brands. Not every meal needs a robust paper plate but thats all you will find inside Costco these days. The best part about Costco foods is, they still insist on your typical container sizes such as juice drinks to come in 64 oz cartons, 1 gallon bottles, 1 qt containers etc. vs. what we see in any grocery store or a Smart & Final with "engineered" to look the same smaller containers for the same price. This is good for the customers and a strong signal to send to those manufactures who have greedy ideas to push onto their loyal customers.
@@Garth2011 varies on cow to cow. You could go one week and it looks bad and you go a few days later and its way better. I think the good stuff sells quicker than ur getting to it.lol
@@Tim_Marshall73 That would be a tenderizer which no one in their right mind would do to a new york or rib eye. Usually, lower quality cuts get the tenderizer treatment.
So the 401K match to 500.00 only applied to non union warehouses. In NY, several Costcos that use to be price clubs before they merged with Costco are union buildings. The teamsters union has a business pension for there employees that began in 2016.
oh you can pay workers a competitive wage.., have benefits, and still be profitable ?? who knew ?? and there stock price is hovering around high 500s, and sometimes 600.. hmmm, this is interesting
I work at a (not naming names...) big box hardware directly across the street from a Costco and while my job isn't "bad" it makes me wish I had applied "over yonder".
Honestly, work at a store that does not have a legal history. That is how I would approach it. The best ones I can think of, well actually the only one, is Aldi.
@@wewhoareabouttodiesaluteyo9303 that normally is true, I've applied about four times for the seasonal position and only got one interview. However, last week I dropped off a resume and yesterday I got hired, just waiting for my background check to clear so I won't start for a week or two. They are desperate for good employees now, it's hard to find people. You should apply again.
You Don't get pay $24 an hour at Costco, that's a Damn Lie . They start everyone at the same rate, it doesn't matter if you plenty of experience/ knowledge about the job.
Pay your workers good and they will stay a long time , and be very happy to stay and enjoy working together to make, and the work place’s better and better for business.
This is very surprising Most of the employees ive seen there seem like they hate their jobs None of them are very helpful or friendly either And most of them honestly seem like they're straight up crazies or should be looked up somewhere One was so rude i almost got in a fight with him but i let it go because i realized he was too young an dmb to even comprehend what he did wrong So to learn that's it's actually a GOOD job is kinda mind blowing lol
I know this is a year old, but I’m hoping to move to AZ to help care for my momma and Costco is the #1 place I want to apply at then Trader Joe’s. Just because of the benefits and matching retirement. Excellent. Sounds like they take care of their employees very well.
Costco doesnt have any "suggestion" email like walmart does, and they should!!! Costco doesnt listen, and they dont sell turkey or duck!! No deli like walmart! Look at those long lines to check out, not me!!
Whole foods pays me 15.50 and If you know their food is overpriced . There is an employee who has been there for 15 years He makes 20 dollars but his hours per week is less than 25 hours due to budget cuts .
If true, up to a $500 annual match for a 401k Costco should be embarrassed about. That is not a retirement program, just a token amount of money for Costco to pay (that they won't miss) just so they can say they have an "employee match." Also, this video did not say how much of the employee health insurance premium the company pays, and how good the insurance is. There are a lot of crappy policies out there, where employers just throw in a small amount with employee paying the rest. A free Costco membership to employees (I would hope they do) and a turkey is nothing to write home about. I worked in retail and also in a restaurant. An employee discount and a meal were standard. I also got time and half for working Sunday in retail. Considering the pay was low to begin with, it didn't amount to much.
The best benefits for Costco employees, are a free membership card and knowing which products are good to buy, most products have secret codes that only a few people know.
Meat prices are high on some items, overpriced infact! How much did u say pork loin is?? Lamb?? What sale?? Do they know what a sale is?? I think not!!
Meat Cutters make $1.50 than most hourly employees. And the meat supervisor is the highest paid hourly employee at ab $32 an hour and 48 on sunday i think.
@@Tim_Marshall73 Its not that easy to move to become a sup or manager, i know a co-worker meat cutter been working since 2014, hes finally now a sup at my work. That's 9 years bro
I think they will if you ask them to...fairly sure they have paper bags just for that. We saved some of their boxes that fit just right in our car and unload the cart into them and its easy to unload once home. Most of the time, we ask for them to load our cart using boxes with cold items boxed together. They are good in doing that.
Topped out assistant pay - $26.75 an hour Topped out clerk pay - $28.45 an hour Supervisor pay- $29.95 an hour Time on a Forklift = $1 premium when you're driving a Forklift and is considered a Clerk paying job. As of July 16th 2022
Some costco pay more depends on the location of the store the store I work at pay-$27.50 an hour for Topped out cashier assistant And topped out cashiers get $29.45 an hour
"They pay all this money per hout!!!" Yup, and they're constantly understaffed, strongly discourage overtime, and now they have as many self check outs as staffed registers. Oh, and the teamsters are about to go on strike. Really tired of people celebrating a company who basically pays people what they should be paid. More than that if you break down productivity levels compared to other retailers, they're underpaid.
My friend is a department manager in Canada. Employees are not hired by Costco. They are contracted through a temp agency that has offices at each store. Their hourly wage is higher than minimum wage. However they do not employ most people at a full 40 hours per week. It may have something to do with full paying benefits and a pension. They also do not pay overtime. My friend worked overtime and was not paid. She had to take legal action to get the wages.
@@bane3991 It does. The livable was a standard wage that the government passed in 1938; but the only issue is, politics. Anytime the government is transparent with the people, the private sector is not content. So what happens? They raise the prices of everything because they do not want to tap into their top line budgets (paid to board and CEO). Yes, there should still be a hierarchy in terms of experienced getting paid more, job title changes being paid more, etc.; but the factor that is never addressed is being able to show up at your job each day with a roof over your head and a car to drive. Peoples' carelessness ALSO plays a factor, BUT the wages have been shown to not even cover shelter and transportation needed to get to the job.
