I want to thank Tom Moloughney for taking time to share his EV Journey with all of us. Such a great guy and an interesting story. An original MINI "Pioneer" and BMW "Electronaut". Former owner of Nauna’s Bella Casa Restaurant in Clifton, NJ. Now a Senior Editor at InsideEV's and runs "State of Charge' RU-vid Channel. Tom's EV Journey has been a super interesting one with some crazy experiences that has shaped where he is today as a premier leader in the EV industry.. There is no doubt that one can study and learn about EV's. But Tom has actually lived the evolution of EV's as an active participant, consumer, and advisor to some of the largest manufacturers in the world allocating $ to EV's. And because of that, Tom is truly the go-to guy in the industry for educating the masses about all things EV; specializing in how to charge EV's. What a journey. I hope you enjoy this video as much as I did making it...
Tom Mologhney's RU-vid Channel is "State of Charge". Be sure to subscribe!

More emphases should be placed on reviewing mobile EVSE units, more and more vehicles are being sold new and used without. And LvL 1 and 2 Combo units are so rare outside Ford and Tesla.

Tom - Good to see you! It brought back memories of the ActiveE program. Coincidentally, I was looking through my photo library a few days ago and I came across a picture of the skid marks on my garage floor/driveway from where they had to drag the ActiveE out of my garage due to it not powering on. (12V battery issue.) You were really our only conduit to BMW on that program, through the Facebook group. Happy to see that you're continuing the journey. I subscribe to your channel and enjoy the EVSE reviews; seems the cold weather test is now tied directly to your name. (I watched a video where the creator noted that he'd save the cold weather test to your channel.) I've had several electric / PEH cars since the ActiveE/i3 days...I still enjoyed the ActiveE the most! Dave - I really like your content, as well as your son's! Keep up the good work!

This reminds me of my own journey. Starting in around 2004, I spent some time in the biodiesel world with a VW TDI, and I would oftentimes run 100% biodiesel. But it was complicated - it was hard to find, and in the wintertime, the stuff could sort of freeze up (looked like a big block of butter), and while it worked fine in my 2002 TDI, newer TDI engines were sufficiently different that I didn't see it as viable any more. Electric always interested me, but until the range got to be around >200 miles, I couldn't see how I could make it work for what I was doing.. I used to regularly make ~150 mile trips, so early EVs just didn't cut it.

HI SUPER DAVE, HOW ARE YOU?? THANK YOU FOR GIVING US A GREAT "MINI" BIO (literally and figuratively?? ) ON TOM'S BACKGROUND AND HISTORY IN THE EV FIELD, HOW HE GOT THERE, AND WHAT HE DID BEFORE; I DID NOT KNOW ANY OF THAT STUFF!! I FIRST STARTED SEEING HIM, I THINK ON ALEX GUBERMAN'S " E FOR ELECTRIC" SHOW, THEN "INSIDE EV'S" AND NOW "STATE OF CHARGE" AND ITS NICE TO HEAR HOW WELL HE IS THOUGHT OF, AND RESPECTED BY HIGH-UP PEOPLE IN THE AUTO INDUSTRY, AS WELL AS THE HOME CHARGING INDUSTRY; IT KIND OF VALIDATES THE RESPECT, TRUST, AND ADMIRATION WE HAVE FOR HIM!! AND APPARENTLY YOU'VE BEEN FRIENDS FOR A LONG TIME?? SO HOW COME, AFTER TAKING A DRIVE, AND BEING ON A ROAD-TRIP IN HIS NEW LIGHTNING EV FOR OVER AN HOUR, HE DIDN'T LET YOU DRIVE IT?? THANKS DAVE!! The pricing of EVs & the charging are the biggest decisions on buying an EV. When I started researching for mine in August of ‘21 I thought I’d go with a PHEV, but I live in a townhouse community with an assigned parking space 150 feet away from my outdoor outlets, and I realized even with my short roundtrip that I would need to charge it nearly every day. I figured out that there is free level 2 charging only 1 mile away, which with an EV I could charge only once every 5-10 days, so I shifted to heavily researching EVs. I charge about 90% for free, whether it’s at that free level 2 or a free DCFC both on state property, and I’ll never go back to gas.

Hopefully nobody tells Tom that Rivian's largest investor from day one has been a Saudi group.
@StateOfChargeWithTomMoloughney
I don't doubt there's Saudi money in there, as there probably is in most large public American companies. But no, a Saudi group is definitely not Rivian's largest investor, T Roe Price is (followed by Amazon and Ford). Perhaps you're confused with Lucid Motors.
