Exactly. Parker saw Elvis as a meal ticket. I believe he thought Elvis would be a flash in the pan so he used him for what he could get. Elvis was going to be a star, but without Elvis, Parker would have been a nobody.

Parker is played by Tom Hanks and Hanks is slightly apologizing for Parker calling him a "genius" carney ( because he came from the carnival life). I agree w/you 100%. The actor playing ELVIS is great but the Parker role dominates the movie too much. I hope he rots in hell.

It wasn't until maybe the 80s that muscial artists started learning how to get the right managers, record labels, etc. ELVIS was in the dark ages of American contemporary music. HE WAS A PIONEER.

Well, I think it's good that Priscilla helps keep his memory alive. While he was living, he was certainly a cash cow for Parker. I think even Elvis' true friends liked all the money they made working for him. If they weren't blinded by the money, then, I must say, they weren't very smart. Parker had everyone wrapped around his little finger. What a con man and likely a murderer, as well!

I think he did a "serious" movie but it wasn't a success because he wasn't dancing and singing in it. It's what the fans want, not what the artist wants, and his fans wanted to see him sing and dance, not to play dramas. Chances are the "A star is born" would not have been a success with Elvis in the leading role.

I saw the new Elvis biopic movie on HBO MAX last year. I loved it and I also feel bad for Elvis. Tom Parker deserves to be in the Manager Hall of Infamy with Lou Pearlman, the con-man manager of Backstreet Boys and N*SYNC and Allen Klein, the horrible manager who ruined both The Beatles and The Rolling Stones. The only managers that I know of that deserve to be in the Manager Hall of Fame are: Brian Epstein, Andrew Loog Oldham, Murry Wilson, and Peter Grant. It there are any more better managers that deserve to be on the list of great managers, let me know.

Being randomly rewarded for something, like you are when you're gambling, causes the most addictive behavior known to man. He couldn't stop gambling. And it wasn't small amounts of money he was gambling with, I'm sure. And God only knows if the casinos were helping to motivate Colonel Parker in certain ways or something.... Elvis was on all those drugs... and there had to be some kind of manipulation going on, and some people are just very good at that. It seems pretty apparent that Colonel Parker must have been good at it. I mean, look at all the stuff that man got away with and what he did for a living all his life! It definitely wasn't a healthy situation, and Elvis literally died because of it. And honestly- I wouldn't be surprised if there isn't even more that no one really knows about all the bad stuff that man did. I'm not all that shocked that it has been discovered that he most likely committed murder and that sparked his desire to move to the U.S. I wonder about the early demise of Elvis's mother. No one else seems to have made any kind of suggestion about that kind of unusual development, but I really do think it seems strange, and when I first learned about that, I thought Colonel Parker had some motivation at the time for that to occur.

He had nobody in his corner supporting him. Even his own Dad wasn't there for him. EVERYONE took advantage of him, so he didn't know how bad things were until it was too late.

Parker also didn't want any picture taking, no press, and no recording of Elvis's meeting with The Beatles in August 27th 1965. It would have been the most memorable, phenomenal, and amazing moment in music history for both Elvis and The Beatles. I bet he didn't want that to happen because what if British journalists found out about Parker's real identity when they're writing about the Fab Four.
