Ever wondered what would happen if you trained like Bruce Lee for an entire year? In this video, we explore a RU-vid creator and mixed martial artist who claimed to have done just that.
Join us as we dive into the intriguing story of Bernard McAlister, also known as Beerdy, the self-proclaimed World's Biggest Expert on Bruce Lee, and his experiment to emulate the legendary martial artist's training regimen for a full year.
Beerdy's journey, captured in a viral video, raised questions about the authenticity and effectiveness of his training methods. Did he truly replicate Bruce Lee's intense workouts and dietary habits, or was there more to the story?
We dissect Beerdy's claims, including his training routines, diet, and his controversial hypothesis about Bruce Lee's cause of death. Along the way, we address the inaccuracies and misconceptions surrounding Bruce Lee's training methods.
Discover a comprehensive breakdown of what it truly means to train like Bruce Lee, based on the martial artist's documented phases of training. We explore calisthenics, isometrics, kettlebell workouts, and more, designed to enhance both physique and martial arts performance.
If you've ever wondered about Bruce Lee's training secrets and how to incorporate them into your own routine, this video provides valuable insights and debunks myths. When I was 21/22 I did Bruce Lee's training for 3 months (the summer). I followed the program of "Bruce Lee Jeet Kune Do" book, and it consisted of 6 hours of training, 2 hours morning, noon, and evening. I had weight training session, stamina and core training session, and martial arts training session. I remember I used to do 1650 punches on MWF and 1000 kicks on T TH S. I focused on speed and strength. I did not grow in muscle size, but my strength increased a lot and my punching speed was insane. My kicks got faster but nothing impressive. Of course, summer ended and all that free time was gone and I had to drop this spartan regimen of workout. I think it's a good workout to do for a season in a year (if one is preparing for a fight) but not at all healthy for long term.

I realized if I done a similar exercise routine I would have been in great shape most of my life and it would have been easier to maintain. At age 39(soon to be 40) and out of shape, if I was to start now I know i would have to endure alot of pain and have to adjust my diet as I'm now a type 1 diabetic. 🤷‍♂️ Thanks again for covering a great legend in human history.

The work out that you described beginning at 16:23 in this Video, is basically what the U.S. Navy S.E.A.L.s were doing when I was at SBU-24 in the U.S. Navy. It will build Power. However the S.E.A.L.s that I knew emphasized muscular endurance over bulk. Basically, Muscular endurance and speed were more important than how much weight you could lift.

Check “Supertrainning” from Vershonshansky. Aside isometrics, like pointed in the vid, there’s a concept in muscular power development related to the angle of how grow muscular tissue. That angle is influenced by load (weight) BUT speed (power) of the movement. Targetting different goals (bulking, power, speed…) require accurate control of speed for each repetition for the “proposed” load and that measurement is performed by lineal encoders (or nowadays accelerometers inside an smartwatch) so if you can’t perform the proposed exercices at its defined parameters… trainer send you home to avoid your muscles get another adaptation instead the one you are targetting. This has lots of implications to just explain them in this short(?) comment but this + isometrics > is the key for powerxpound trainning and one of the selling points for whole body vibration devices or inestability trainning (with bosu-like gear) and also isokinetic pulleys like yo-yo machines and versapulleys (eccentric workout improves that muscle angle growing KEEPing flexibility) that remeble to a certain degree that Dragon isometric machine showed in the video… Hope this helps someone (I will copy it into general comment) Peace.

As usual, Beardy's Videos leave a lot to be desired. You on the other hand do solid research and present information in a manner that can be clearly understood. As far as Internal Martial Arts training goes I don't know of any Chi Gong or Tai Qi work outs that last longer then 45 minutes sans physical conditioning. In fact most of the Instructors I know of advise only doing 15 to 30 Minutes of Tai Qi, Chi Gong, Hsing Yi or other Internal Martial Arts, 2 to 3 times a day and any more than that is unnecessary with the exception of sitting Meditation and even then Meditating for more than an hour is rare unless you are a Monk or Priest or are doing Chanting or external Qi Healing and even then doing any of those for more than 30 minutes at a time is for Advanced Practioners.

Tai Chi Kung means Harmonisation of Cultivated Energy being Cultivated Energy the Chi Kung part of that. Without Chi Kung (Cultivated “Energy”) isn’t possible any kind of Harmonisation. Can someone do larger Chi kung trainnings? Of course but if these are done right that person will “accumulate” enough ammount of Chi to feel unnecessary keep accumulating. I will not say “there’s a finite amount to accumulate” but as you pointed if you aren’t into specific Chi use and you reached your own “health” with less time… why continue? OTOH that Cultivation requires other things aside Chi Kung “gymnastics” such a sexual energy trainning (or almost knowledge and coherence) that usual people not very commited to themselves can keep like monks and traninng more time will not solve that (meditation will be more effective) but even so… there are certain stages of Chi level and when you arrive to “certain” level it becomes a connection with the Universal source where you manage to work with that source and Harmonise (Tai) not only your own Chi but the Chi around you or in words of Sifu Lee “Then it got beaten by itself” because Chi as “energy” can generate (new) life, re-generate (a)live or preserve life balancing the Tao… “when my opponent expands I contract, when he contracts I expand and where there’s a gap…” Do you remember that dialogue with the monk at (directors not cut version of) Enter the Dragon? Tao is nature, Chi is the body of Universal Conciousness and Life in coherence with those is Joy of Infinity Love. I&I Peace 🙏🏻

Like his martial arts, Bruce Lee's cross training regime evolved to meet the needs of what he required, his ripped definition was the result of very precise and calculated working. It is described in the four books an overview of the resistance exercises which are creating strength in core stabilisers and focused on pulling power, grip strength and a hard, lean physique. One of his hollywood friends, i forget which one, said he was like steel all over so developed a density without bulk which is more easily achieved by hovering in the hypertrophic. He was also obsessed with having incredible forearm and tricep strength more than stupidly bulky undefined biceps inhibiting fast arm movement...

I can’t imagine Bruce Lee only ate chicken, rice and water. He would have been seriously vitamin deficient

Beerdy lost all credibility with him making up Bruce Lee stories from old pictures. Even called Guro Dan Inosanto ‘Karate Master Baxter’ in one of his videos. How can you train in JKD and not at least have heard of Guro Dan?? His ‘train like Bruce Lee’ video was hilarious for all the wrong reasons. And like you said-it strongly suggests that Beerdy doesn’t even train at all. Like you my sources are Bruce Lee’s training logs and books by his students and by John Little as well as the various articles in magazines I’d collected over the years. Your video is a good one on this subject. Subbed

Even before that with me -- when he idiotically tried to claim that a man helping him in one of the demonstrations was Joe Lewis (despite the man being several inches shorter & 50-70 lbs lighter).

Today more is known and better applied to physical conditioning in combat sports than in B.L.'s time, no need to copy him in detail! In addition, the training that he devised for himself is the best that could be applied according to his personal characteristics and objectives, let's not forget the training principle of individualization: methods, loads, phases, etc., must be adapted to each combatant. individually.

Such a powerful video. I have a question. I’ve discovered Mike Mentzer’s HIT training Regimen. I’m very interested. But I’m also very interested in Bruce Kee’es method of training. Is there a way to combine these types of training regimen to become a supreme athlete/ fighter?

Bruce did do bodybuilding training and injured his back from doing heavy good mornings. According to Linda, near his death, Bruce was on a mostly liquid diet, recently had his sweat glands removed, couldn't cool off and literally drink himself to death is whats theorized. Crazy

When i saw the title to this video, i was laughing my head off, its as if you read my comment in your previous videos about this BS artist Beerdy and that cheesey video he did on training like Bruce lee for a year which had my eyes rolling. I'm glad you did this video regardless because like yourself , i can't stand BS artists and especially when it involves Bruce Lee. So thanks again for this.

All you need is your body, resistant bands, Punching bog and yoga mat. You could even go with any weight. Explosive power training is great. I have this smaller yellow resistance band that looks like figure 8 and you put it behind your back and shadows boxing with this resistance and calisthenics and your punching with becomes so much quicker

The reality of Bruce Lee's routines is that you could actually do more than him if you don't restrict your calories like you're trying to maintain a ripped physique or stay at the same size all the time. Up to a point, more calories and sleep = more recovery = more results.
@GoldenbellTraining
@GoldenbellTraining Год назад
Bruce didn't restrict his calories until he went on that liquid diet that appears to have contributed to his death, according to a recent research paper But yes, someone would get better results with more rest & recovery. There isn't much need for more training for a person who is not a full-time martial artist
@uexkeru
@uexkeru Год назад
@@GoldenbellTraining True, his walking around size was bigger than people think, but on the flip side the popular image of him always shredded to the gills can lead to people chasing calorie restriction alongside performance, which will end up giving them neither a Bruce Lee physique nor Bruce Lee Performance in the end.

Now this video is exact because they show Bruce lee's actual training info. I've had this list for more than 20 years. So it's good to see that 1 person has some honesty. I hope they keep it up.

Ok so student nurse so little bit of knowledge but not an expert. 1 steroids for nerve pain are NOT anabolic steroids. And 2 if training was the cause Bruce would have caused rabdomyelitis and pretty much killed his kidneys long long before he caused his death the way beardy says.

Thank you for this video on Bruce Lee training.Meanwhile,it is sad to trivialize the personal life performance of the one and only perfect martial artist like Bruce Lee.He consecrated all his life to bring a new dawn of light in martial arts.He was God- gifted, reason why in 1971 the slogan sayed"1971,Bruce Lee shakes the world"mostly with his 400 two finger push-ups!
