Bought my 03 Mustang GT. She was in rough shape, needed new tires, brakes, and shocks. I fixed her up, and she drives like a beast now. She’s my daily and I love my pony. These Mustangs are fairly easy to fix. They share many parts with F150s and crown vics so parts are everywhere.

Damn that engine was CLEAN inside compared to most with those miles. Previous owners actually maintained it. If you don't like the Mustang, just move it on. Sell to a young enthusiast for what you paid. They'll do the work and love it.
With the 335, use one of those really tiny air bag things that inflate when you pump it, and push the latch over with a flat head screw driver. Ask me how I know 🙄
I have a 2006 X3 with a similar issue on the hood. It takes two people to pop the hood. One to pull the latch and one to push your body weight near the hood emblem. Works every time for me.
I have a suspicion that the problem with the Mustang is a broken valve spring. This causes the valve to drop and tension to be removed from the rocker, which lets it fall out. You may be able to replace a valve spring without pulling the head.
Use lapping compound to lap the valve to the seat. Test the valves by turning the head with the valve face up and spark plugs in and fill the head chamber with gasoline, if after half hour the gasoline is still there the valves are sealing.
Hey a repair I've done!! I dropped and replaced the gas tank on my 2014 Ram... As a result of a broken plastic nozzle on the evap (it's all one piece apparently) not a cheap fix, but pretty easy overall... One thing I would recommend since you're in there, replace the fuel pump and sending unit.. but I'd like to see you tackle it...
If the hood latch is anything like the 7 series the left side latch cable runs across the front of the radiator behind the grille. Just pull on that cable and it'll pop. My 05 745li had a broken latch inside the car and this is how I got into it to fix it. Good luck!!! Hopefully this works got you!
@@joesbigblue8440 if you end up getting it go to the junkyard. You'll want to find a non PI long block and a set of PI heads and intake. Add some long tube headers, crane cams 274 cams and a tune. It'll make 400hp for cheap.
Have some1 hold the hood up even pry a lil bit. Get a long saw zall blade and cut the striker on the passenger side. The striker only bolts to the hood. So cutting it is no problem. It’s an easy replacement. My buddy just did the same exact thing on a 3 series, and it worked out great. He didn’t damage the hood at all. Same thing passenger side would not pop. After he cut the striker he got the hood open n found that the cable had slid off and that’s y it wouldn’t open. Good luck Sam!
I had a cable break on me. It had a plastic union and got brittle and broke after 15 years. It also didn’t help that it got hit in the front and the hood didn’t want to open right anyway, so the extra strain on the latching mechanism speed up it’s failure.
Sometimes you get lucky, I picked up an old 4.2L Audi V8 from 1993 with a timing belt that came out in 4 pieces. 4 over head cams, 32 valves, all aluminum engine with 2 distributors, one on the back of each cylinder head. Surprisingly no internal damage, now it's my my daily. I did a video of it on my channel, still have the belt pieces after dodging that bullet.
I legit just finished doing a head gasket on my 2002 Mustang GT. You gotta take the radiator out too. Might as well do new timing chains. Also, based on my experience, you will also need to put in a better radiator, aftermarket exhaust headers, full intake, and a tune.
When you replace the F250 fuel tank, see if you can get the fx4 saddle straps with the bolts and the fx4 fuel tank skid plate (or aftermarket). Maybe no more “something drove up under the fuel tank and dented it” issues.
I'm drooling over that E39...and step mom. Sorry, not sorry. And yes, post more videos. This one or two a week isn't enough. I love Hoovie's, VinWiki and RUC but there's no wrenching. Only you and Tavarish wrench on relatable cars. Keep em' coming.
Man that sucks about the 335i hood. I love that car. I would probably cut it. Black is easy enough to match that you could probably just buy a used black one and not have to paint it. Good luck! Also Scott was a true gem. Restoring my faith in humanity, not bc he gave it away, but just for being such a genuinely nice guy.
I bought a grand marquis for $500, 2008 272000 miles. It ran beautifully, did burnout like crazy even tho it was open diff. Sold it a week ago for $1700. Same engine 4.6
It's crazy that same exact thing with the hood happened to my son's car. I actually wound up going to Harbor Freight and picking up some hacksaw blades ,fitting them in there and after about 25 to 30 minutes of sawing it, I cut the latch off and the locks work perfectly we went and bought a new hood and they lined up just fine.
Lol. This has happened on more lawn tractors that people bring me than I care to admit. :) Just this week, my own ancient Poulan with a briggs 14.5hp had a valve stick on it’s first start of the season, and the wee valve cap that sticks between the valve stem and the rocker popped off, fell down the oil gallery, and came out when I drained the oil to change it… Popped it back on, adjusted teh valves, and Ol’ Faithful is back in business.
Raise the 335i on the lift and try to unlatch it manually with a long screw driver from underneath. Or you can try removing the left grille maybe you have better access to the latch. Sometimes the cable itself pops off the latch so only way to unlock it would be with a screw driver pressing on the arm where the cable connects.
every time i see a house with a garage and two cars in the driveway i wonder WHAT is so precious it needs to be in the place specifically built to house vehicles...
Breaking down that motor is actually pretty easy. If you do it, just remember, you can unbolt the passenger side exhaust manifold from the head because you can easily get to the bolts. The driver side, unbolt the exhaust manifold from the cat pipe so the manifold just comes out with the head. Also brakelabs is a good online spot for brakes(if they are still around, can't access right now on muh work computer). Got crossdrilled rotors and pads for "I think" $130.

@@rolan116 I don't know but guessing maybe viewer content, building suspense? Doesn't make sense from a practical view, I have built many engines and worked in a rebuilding shop but know nothing about making youtube content.
Valve is stuck because it's bent, I've rebuilt and built so many of these 4.6/5.4s. timing guides are likely gone and the valve touched the piston, bent the stem, then knocked the rocker out. 75% of the ones i see the guides are gone because people hop in start it and take off.
Hey Sam, Sorry to break the bad news to you but that e39 530i on has the Sport pkg. It's still a pretty rare configuration, being the facelift e39 530 was only made in 2002 and 2003 and finding a manual equipped Sport pkg car is hard. True M-Sport e39s were only produced in 2003 and were 540i with 6-speed transmission.
Easiest way to open the hood, at the risk of some minor paint damage. Get a section of heavy gauge, right-angle iron fence post cut to the width of the hood. Get a length of flat copper bar, same length and bend it lengthways to form a right angle. Mix up some (O2N2CH2)3 and use that as a sandwich filler between the iron and copper angle bars. Some care needs to be taken during the mixing and filling steps. Place the bar across the front of the hood, then attach ignition coils and wires at each end of the bar, ensuring firm contact with your filler. Stand well back, apply a current to the igniters, and the hood will then be easy to open. This is a very simple solution to most BMW problems.
love your videos, very detailed and informative. Don't hesitate on posting more repair and DIY videos, I'm sure a large majority of your audience would love to see them!
When these engines sit for a long time, some of them have a problem with the hydraulic dampeners for the valve train bleed down leaving a ton of gap between the valve and follower. Then,, when you turn over the engine, it sweeps the follower off the dampener and it just falls onto the cylinder head. As a 35 yr. Ford tech, I saw this many times...
I don't blame you for not wanting to work on this one given the rest of your fleet. I picked up a $500 manual convertible V6 2000 Mustang. Bad fuel pump, and now it's throwing another code. Lots of other little things wrong with it, but over time it won't be bad, and I don't make that RU-vid money. I also don't need it to be cool or anything. Ideally, I'll make a cone course car out of it.
I think a lot of people like the Mustang because it's a type of car project anyone could get into and is a real world project even for the smallest budget. So it makes us very interested in it and cars of this type of money and power capability. You can drift it with a little welding on the diff and even make the engine have big power with a cheap forced induction. So much cheap after market support that makes it viable for the masses to actually look into doing. That's IMHO why people have a lot of interest in the Mustang.
Last car I owned in the UK was E39 525i SE Auto, which I loved. I had it for 10 years from new, then emigrated to USA, so had to sell it. Your vehicle looks a bit weird with the after market radio, but it is a superb car.
On your ford pickup when I worked at the ford deal I had a ton of F series trucks with fuel leak that looks similar to what you have and it's from a fuel line on top of the tank that will have a perfectly round hole in it like a needle or something punctured it. Seems to always be someplace close to where the cab and the bed meet up. Only thing we could come up with why they are getting the holes is that some kind of buf is eating the lines.
gotta love how stepmom used her 6th sense to know the camera zoomed out enough to show her so she could look and smile into it its like shes had a camera on her before and I cannot imagine why :)
If the bearings are good on that cam follower it probably got bounced off when the valve hit the piston. It is cheaper to replace the whole engine than the head if you took it to a shop. My local engine guy charged $1200 CDN to re and re an engine and $3500 to re and re a head.
sam i just had a look at my 335i latch set up what looks like the problem with your latch is the hood cable joins into a joiner block and merges out as 2 cables i am guessing one of yours has broken or dislodged the rocker on the lock is hidden behind the lock plate and a cow to get to.1 if you can see the lock from the front of the underside of the hood you can get a thin piece of rod 1/16 diameter and put a right angle on the end about a half inch long and where the hood tang goes into the lock hook behind on the drivers side and turn anti clockwise and it should release the latch.2 where you see the cable on the drivers side under the fender follow it behind the headlight and where the cable joins the joiner block the longer cable is the passanger side grab that cable and reef on it and see if it opens it the outer cable may have come unhooked but the inner cable should still be connected as a panel beater this is what i would do good luck cheers from down under
Sam you can lap the valve in with valve grinding compound it will cut the seat to seal the valve. No need for a machine shop or new head. Fix the mustang!!!
The likely culprit of that popped off rocker is a failed hydraulic lash adjuster (aka lifter) underneath it. If they collapse, the rocker will pop right out. Fun fact, the Chrysler/Jeep 3.7 and 4.7 use the same lifters as the late modular Fords. Don't believe me just look it up. I replaced several on a 3.7 v6 years back that did the same thing.
The valve that is hung open is stuck open for some reason other than the rocker arm. The rocker arm fell off because that valve isn't coming all the way back up allowing the rocker to flop around until it fell off. Find out why the valve didn't close all the way.
Sam .....On the truck........Just remove the bed ..way easier it's like 6 bolts ....fuel nozzle ....and rear light harness.....takes like a hour ..and a hoist ...........or you can just jack the bed out of your way....good luck ......hope this helps ......have a F150 ......that eats Fuel pumps ...........so I have have done it alot ...Good luck ...and keep up the videos......Oh on the BMW hood ..can you get to latches through the front grills ?
If you can work on that Ferrari I promise that 2 valve isn’t going to be a problem. Motors are very cheap and everywhere. It’s also very easy. If you have access to a lift it’s easy to pull the motor out with transmission by pulling the k-member.
Sam I was able to just lab in the valve , make sure the seat is not burnt , check it with light and if it’s good put it back together. Guys that have done it know what I am talking about But look brother it’s up to you if its not what you want let it go 👨
Fix the stang! the exotics are great, but this something the average viewer can relate too. Don't worry about the paint make it a weekend track car or give it to your step mom. The car is clearly out of your element so it will be a challenge. Chance for us to see you build budget hotrod.
The tire off liner out is the best way but you don’t want to pull on the cables the latch has a secondary release that a flat head screw driver can fit into take a really long skinny one . You slide the screw driver threw the rad support into the latch Accessing the secondary release
Look up the latch on google and you can see the seconds release switch on the side of the latch it’s a small part that you click down I work in collision repair and this is a fairly common issue
I had a E36 BMW where the hood release failed, I don't know if they still do it, but on mine it was designed so you could easily remove the plastic from the kidney grill to access the release cable.
If you want to do a relatively cheap repair on the Mustang pull the head, get replacement valves for the bent ones, and rather than take it to a machine shop lap the valves. It's an old school technique but then you'll know if the valves will seal or if there are bigger problems. And rusty rotors?!? My rotors get rusty every time it rains, I hit the brakes a couple of times and that cleans them up, that car would likely take a bit longer as it's sat for a while but I really can't see that as a big deal.
I get what you mean about the cost of fixing the Mustang. However think of it this way. A lot of people don't wanna buy a project car. They want one that's already been tinkered on and redone. If you fix the suspension, change the engine, replace the brakes, and then deal with the paint, someone will buy this car just for the fact they won't have to do all that work themselves. Sometimes a car is worth it. And you don't have to go with an original engine. Find and put a better one in it instead. And you don't even have to repaint the car. Just get the paint blended, touched up and polished. Which is way cheaper. What's more I know a refurbished Mustang fixed by you would sell. People want your cars.
Head off and check the seats. Fix could be cheap and easy. Replacement head possible. Replacement engine more expensive, load more work to fit and you have no idea if the replacement is even worse so major rebuild time. Head off and valve replacement probably cost less than just buying the i8 head gasket If you want a load of upgrades / paint, then a full engine rebuild with better cam, etc, is cheap compared to bodywork, etc.
wow i´m impressed. that ridge wallet segway was slick. Probs to you my friend for not using the annoying & standard marketing phrases like "redefine the wallet" and so on.
I saw this on a four valve ecotec gm 4 banger. Except it didn’t bend the valve. Still had compression and was just running on three valves on cylinder 1. it was missing one intake valve. No check engine lights no way to tell until I happen to be doing a Valve cover gasket for a friend.
Fix the truck Sam! Those so called 'boring generic repairs' are on vehicles that are widely owned by Americans. Wouldn't that mean that many more viewers would like to see them? Heck, I don't own an F150 and I would like to see the repair. Forget the negative comments! Good update video!!!
In my teens and twenties, you could get a dependable, running and driving car for $500. In the Midwest, we'd buy a winter beater and store the good car during the winter. In the spring, we'd sell the beater and buy another one in the fall.
What was the outcome of this car? I bought a running 5-speed manual 2004 GT with 138k 4 years ago in Fl. for $2500. Drove it for a bit. Bought a 2003 4.6 2v PI pulled from a Grand Marquis with 63k on it for $900. Put a $300 used set Comp Cams 262AH cams in it with TFS valve spring and retainer set, new gaskets, used K&N cold air kit from LKQ salvage for $130, used Mac Long Tube headers $150, Off-road x-pipe $190, Stainless Original Flowmaster 40's welded in factory tail pipes, Brenspeed custom tune on SCT-X4, FRPP 4.10 gears I'd had for years in the box new, subframe connectors, and handful of suspension parts to freshen handling and straight line traction. It dynoed 291rwhp and runs 7.90's in the 1/8 mile on slicks for under $5k total. Your barn find was a fairly straight and clean one. I hope you did something useful with it or sold it to an enthusiast that will/did. These cars are fun and very easy to work on. They will be the next foxbody.
if the latch system is anything like my 2001 525i, to get to the passenger side latch, you go through the grill. I had to do it and it worked. I took out the driver side kidney (if I remember correctly) - you will probably break the tabs - mine were already not great so it was not an issue. I can't remember exactly what I did after that - maybe a needle nose to pull the cable? I'll see if I can find the reference I used to make it work. My cable had come apart at the junction on the driver side and all I had to do was put it back together (once the hood was open of course).
Make a rod to reach and hook onto the latch that is out of reach until you do that. Maybe attach a bit of bent coat hanger to a broom handle or some shapeable flexible plastic. This solution was brought to you by W🤙🤙D.
