The whole family is completely odd. Their home is said to be not well-cleaned and looking like a hoarders' house. The father has more than dozen firearms! They hardly ever talked with their neighbors. It was just a matter of time when an offspring of that kind of people does something drastic. The father is a gun crazy and the both of the parents somehow odd and completely incompetent to be parents. The picture they keep using of him, looks more like a 12-year-old boy. When a person has no ID on them, how do authorities come about with a positive identification on a body?
Finger prints, dental records, other biometric [body] information [tattoos or other identifying marks], etc. These days, possibly facial recognition across social media or the web? Hence why immediately after the shooting they said they were trying to confirm the shooter's identity via biometric data, since he had carried no ID on him.
The dad called the police because he knew what happened and couldn't reach his son. Probably noticed a gun was taken. I bet they knew early on it was probably him, and just had to verify.

@@justinlevy274 Incorrect, on the right side of the building RIGHT outside that corner you will see the "receiving" area and there is a gray cabinet and 2 chairs placed on each side. If you look closely at the footage showcasing the front of the facility you can see the 5-foot ladder placed on the side of the cabinet. Sure, there were a few AC units placed in that corner, but the camera shows.
