I worked at a local restaurant that made something very similar to these. They were a pain in the ass because they were *so* easy to break and presentation is basically everything with these.

I always get one of these to share whenever I go to Outback Steakhouse.

Bloomin onion and fried zucchini are my 2 favorite apps ever!! 😋 I get them for my entrée often with a chicken breast. Need a little protein too. 🤷🏼‍♀️

At my local Outback, these should be called "Salt Onions." Over-salted to the point of making your lips sore. And no sleeping after these, constantly waking up reaching for water. The idea is sublime; it's the execution that gets you.

There's a special Bloom flower used to make these onions and there is no added salt on these

I've made a close dupe and I used Tony Chachere's Creole Seasoning in it (in the sauce too). If you're hand cutting the onion, use a Vidalia onion, cut the flat side for the bottom so it sits flat and don't cut too close to the base of the onion or the petals will fall off.

First, they're dipped in soda water, not egg wash, second, outback uses beef tallow for frying.
@lilitharam44

McDonald's used to use tallow too, for their fries, it was better.

Maybe it's only at the ones in my area, But the Bloomin' Onion has been horrible and after 3 tries I won't try it again. I love onions raw, cooked, and as onion rings. The Bloomin' Onion is gross.

One thing I always get there are the sydney shrooms. Imo they're the best mushrooms I've ever had and obviously I know some people may not like mushrooms but if you do I highly recommend them if you haven't tried them
