A recent survey commissioned by Michelin Tires shines some light on exactly what worries Canadian motorists when they take the wheel in the winter.
First, Michelin’s survey looked at what percentage of Canadians say they’re still worried about winter driving, even after they prepare their vehicles for the snowy season. The figure? Seventy per cent - and that’s after making proper preparations for winter driving including installation of quality winter tires.
In this video, we’ll break down the most commonly reported fears among Canadian drivers, as well as the single biggest winter-driving fear on the list.

As kids we would take our cars on the weekends after a big snow fall And spin around parking lots that had no cars (factories etc) It was fun But it also taught us You can steer Or You can brake on snow And Ice But At higher speeds you can not do both The other rule is point the car always in the direction you want to go Let go of the gas And dont touch the brake..I own a 4x4 with snow tires And i still avoid highways during snowstorms when i can

This is exactly why I recommend finding a large open space with no obstacles such as light poles to go out and drift around go faster than you normally would take turns faster than you would hit the brakes harder than you normally would and just in general fuck around in your car because not only will you have a shitload of fun you will also learn how your car handles in snow without the worry of wrecking your car I don’t recommend large parking lots due to curbs and light poles find something like a gravel pit or something of that nature where there is no worry of cops giving you a ticket for reckless driving (even though I don’t believe it is if your not on the road or in a parking lot) because the worst that will happen is you get stuck or hit a snow bank (depending on where you do this) then you will come out with a lot more confidence in yourself your ability’s and your car

Yeah all good for practice but increases the maintenance costs on your vehicle. Wheel bearings aren't meant to be loaded with stress from side force. They will potentially get damaged. Especially when your sliding sideways and your tire catches dry pavement.

Most of us Canadians learn how to drive in the snow pretty well. The biggest fear is of other drivers. Not all drivers on the road are used to winter driving because they could be a tourist. Some may not even be well practiced because there a new driver and learned to drive in the summer. Some people just drive to fast in snow and shows there lac of knowledge of winter driving. I always keep my distance from everyone. I'm 100% confident in my abilities to drive in snow and ice. But other people are scary as fuck especially when your going slow cause of the weather and some reckless jerk overtakes u on ice. Not only are they getting scary close to u on a slippery road but there going so fast they wouldn't be able to steer out of it if they started sliding. Allot of stupid drivers out there.

I was taught by Driving instructor many years ago, that consider yourself the only sane driver on the road and everyone else Idiot will take you far, and 7.8 plus million miles later, he was right

You should be worried about driving on snow and especially ice. A little fear is healthy. As long as you aren't terrified.

Winter slowing or stopping. I love manuals for downshifting on snowy roads.
