I'm very glad that this video is doing so well, but please keep in mind that when i bought this bike i was very unfamiliar with 2 strokes, and that a 125 and 250 looked the same to me. I had never owned, ridden, or even been around one until i had this bike. Thank you to those that understand! Keep twisting that throttle everyone!
Ride with Zach so i first saw an older video of your new 450? but then you have a newer video of your new 125? am i missing something lol. how long have you been riding for?
Ride with Zach nice bike I love a 2 stroke Yamaha I had a Yamaha DT175 enduro and I loved it and had a hell of a power band I could get out and run with the best
ENDURO SK yeah the guys right I live on a little road circuit and Neighbors complain all the time . so gravel road is a lucky fund especially because there's barley any houses
Calvin Depends, some people get bigger when they get older ha ha. If I stayed the same size I was back when I was 14-15 then sure, but eventually I filled out and there's just too much weight to make a 125 fun.
Ignore the jackasses trying to roast you for mistaking a 125 for a 250. The 125 will teach you how to ride and then you could move up to a 250. I just bought a 2015 YZ 125 and it's a blast to ride. I rode motocross back in the mid 90s. I'm now getting back into it.
Mark Noble 125s are faster on a track anyway. I've seen A class guys go from their 250s to a 125 and shave a second off their best 250 time in just 2 laps on the 125
I agree with everything you said. Most people that get a 450F should have gotten a 250F. Most people that get a 250 should have gotten a 125. A 2-stroke on the pipe is a thrill ride.
honestly 125 2 strokes are so fun . i have an rm250 and i recently sold my rm125 and i fucking miss that bike . my 250 gives me the power thrill and i fucking love my 250 but i honestly miss the 125
If you are familiar with 2 strokes you can easily tell the engine displacement by looking at the exhaust pipe. The 250 2t pipe always extends outwards with a hook and the 125 2t always is a smooth curve around the frame.
glad you love it! I personally hate 125's vs a 250 2-stroke. But I'm a track rider so I need all the immediate power I can get. But the bike sounds crisp! You got yourself a beautiful bike there.
I know this is an old video, but I had a somewhat similar situation. I bought a bike that was advertised as a YZ 465. When I got it home, and took off the gas cap to put in more gas, I saw that the tank was blue inside (all the plastic was covered with some black plastidip kind of coating) - the trademark Yamaha IT colour. It ended up being an IT 465. I was disappointed at first that it wasn't what I paid for, until I remembered that I rode an IT 175 as a teen and loved it. The IT is from the old International Six Day Trials events, and was a big two stroke Enduro legend - I LOVE that IT 465, and I'm glad it wasn't the bike I thought I was getting.
I am glad you enjoy your yz125. I grew riding a 78yz125 rocket. Super fast, plush suspension. Last year I bought and rebuilt an 89yz250. I love my bike. It's a third faster than a 125 for sure. When your ready to move up just remember the feeling you have now and a third more on top!!!!
I had a 125 then moved to a 250f for 3 years and then tried tried my brothers 125 again and I realized how much I missed 2 strokes. However after that I moved up to a 250 2 stroke and it has definitely been one of my favourite bikes
This actually really helped me decide between a 125 and a 250 I’m turning 15 on the 24th of feb and I will get some money and will be able to by a bigger bike then what I have now so thank you
Im buying a 125cc and heard the horror about enginebraking, am i supposed to hold the clutch in basically whenever im coasting? (Although im aware you shouild never coast on a dirtbike)
klecoo Aleksander don't fret , braking on a 2 stroke is more common than you think . Everyone does it on Burms or if they stunt on the street and come to a stoppie. You hear it , no horror stories seen here my man. Buy the yz you won't regret it
If you are finnish and make video like driving with 2 stroke and u dont pull clutch while coasting every comment on that video will be about engine braking and ye
HELP I have owned a Polaris predator 500 and a raptor 700r I blew em both up do to me riding them top speed for a long time are 2 stroke dirt bikes different
No, 2 strokes are actually more susceptible to blowing up when running at max rpm for extended periods of time. The truth is it’s not good for any motor to run maxed out.
@@zachdavis3974 well I wouldn't bounce off rev limiter let's say for example a raptor goes 120 kmh I would go top gear 100 kmh and cruise like that holding the throttle so the engine isn't screaming
I see your point, but I rode a 250 2t at 13 and I was fast...and my first bike (of my own) when I was a kid was a kx125. At first I needed cinder blocks to get on it. I feel like learning on a bike that is too big for me helped me be more advanced in the long run. Because if you can ride a 450 we'll, you can probably ride any other bike correct me if I'm wrong. Idk, I personally feel like being on a big bike allowed me to be better.
People who complain about 125s not being fast are people who can’t ride 125s fast because it takes actual skill, it’s like working a musical instrument, usually lazy riders who ride the tracks in the wrong gear and have no clutch/throttle control but are saved by the torque of a 4 stroke. 125 is the most fun bike to ride fast but it takes a skilled rider to ride them fast
I liked my 250s (2-strokes) a lot more than my 125s just because it was easier to ride in the woods and way easier to clear bigger jumps on tracks. My 125 was damn near dangerous to ride in the woods because you had to run it so hard to keep the bike alive 😂 I found myself riding my 125 in the woods faster than I ran my 250 because I was forced to 😂 super fun bike. I ride a 2019 xcf450 now and I’m never going back but I pay snag a 125 just to mess around on on the track.... (: good video
Hey I’m 9’54” and 71 pounds. Would I fit on the 2000cc Twelve Stroke or should I just get the 1400cc Two Stroke and stiffen the suspension? I’ve been riding a yamazuki GSXR 230 for about a year. Any advice would be appreciated! (Sorry for my English)
Ride with Zach if the Vin is scratched off that means it's stolen 99% of the time. plus the guy who sold it probably didn't even know what it was. so you have a stolen bike
@@calebhuls49 Well at least he isnt driving it on like... a highway or somethin.. That has the chance for u to get pulled over, then they see the bike is stolen and ur fucked..
Brian Morrison I think it depends on local jurisdictions and the manner of the transaction etc, when I bought my first dirt bike from someone who posted it on their front lawn with a for sale sign all I needed was a bill of sale for proof of ownership but when I got my second bike from a dealership in the same place we had to get it titled as an off highway vehicle and had to place a decal on the front forks and also received a bill of sale.
@Butt Hurtz To my knowledge dirt bikes didn't come with titles until I think 2005 when it was required. I know some states might require dirt bikes to be titled for offroad use so you'd need to apply for one. But like where I live a bill of sale for used bikes or certificate of origin for new bikes is the only required documentation for OHRV registration. The VIN is how you really determine if its stolen.
i have cr125 -01 and cr250 -00 ofc 250 has alot more power but im alot faster with 125 on track because its lighter so its easier to control it mid air and in corners
You need to hit your power band. you let off right before it engages. the power band will almost throw you off the bike. 2 strokes have the best high end power.
Thw powerband doesnt "engage" buddy 😂 these bikes dont have any sort of "band" ("powerband") is a term used to describe the most powerful portion of the rpms in and engines spectrum. He hit it several times
@@djshedd77 thank you DJ, another keyboard warrior trying to know what he is talking about. When I hear someone say powerband the conversation ends lol.
DJ Shedd can you tell me where I can buy a replacement powerband for my kx250 as it’s not as powerful as before? Think it may be the powerband has snapped?
@@StewCrew72 people who aren’t good rely on stronger engines to go faster, someone with actual skills will destroy any novice no matter what bike they’re riding. People who lack skill are usually the ones obsessed with “faster bikes”
If you watch very close to anybody who races/rides/noobs any kind of riding, they do not use the clutch for down shifting. He’s not riding down a 3/4 mile hill he’ll be ok. Been riding 2 strokes for 20 years. Never have I even found traces of damage from downshifting or even coasting for anyone who wants to use that as an excuse. A good excuse why your stuff turds out is because who ever built the bike was a little potatoe.
I was actually looking for a yz125 for my first dirt bike, came across a 04 yz250 for $1300 a few year's ago was so clean I had to buy it, I put a new cylinder and piston on it... not one regret, love the bike so much! :)
@@TroNPopz209 A number of variables involved, bud, including type of oil last run in it. I'm guessing you are just speculating and have no real world experience to base your opinion on?
GIGAnakki That doesnt hurt 2 strokes WHATSOEVER unless you're doing it constantly at 13k rpm. Every factory mechanic will tell you that's stupid. it takes almost a minute for the oil in a 2 stroke to burn off when engine braking and no throttle. Plus the engine has plenty of lube for engine braking when at idle as they are still taking in the fuel and not burning it off near as much
ShadowOfDeath24 Depends. On my KTM 125 when I got it I didin't know that engine braking is bad for the 2-stroke engine. Gave it probaply 5-10 seconds engine brake on 6-8k rpms and the cranckshaft seized. Wasn't a cheap nor funny mistake :)
maybe you were running too lean already? I've always had mixed fuel in my bikes and never had that happen and engine braked a lot longer than that. Only ever seen mates seize their bikes because they didn't put enough oil in the mix and were flat out at the time, not braking.
Mvda fuck engine braking once shouldnt fuck yoir bike... chances are you bought a lemon to begin with. ive had a 125 for over a year now I always engine brake
Yamaha Life every bike is unique. I had 3% oil mixture and the cylinder and piston etc had 5 hours on em. Some bikes can handle engine braking some don't. Of course you can give it engine brake how you want but me personally on the 2 strokes I ride I don't give engine brake almost at all. :)
I will never understand why it matters what bike you have if you are just gonna ride in a straight line the whole time. "This bike is seriously a beast". LOL
Shred Fam well I was riding around my ranch in this video. But riding in a straight line is a good way to feel the power of coarse. I took it to a track soon after this video, check out some of those.
just a couple things and i mean no disrespect. but why would you buy a bike you knew nothing about, one look at the pipe would tell you its a 125. and the 125 does fit you very well but i dont think that you should say 80% of people should ride one because for a woods rider like me it doesn't have the torque for some obstetrical i ride a ktm 200xc-w and absolutely love it(bike i started on and it was a bit much but it was perfectly manageable). and just a tip from a fellow 2 stroke rider if you are off the gas and coasting pull in your clutch to stop from oil starvation because your engine gets oil from gas but instead of getting the oil for say 5000 rpm its only getting the oil for 800rpm. i wouldn't worry about it on the track but on trails like this it makes a huge difference.
nick karch he isnt racing he is trail riding, the minuscule performance upgrade from engine braking isnt worth the extra wear on the top end. not to mention that 2 strokes have very little compression braking. so do some research before commenting. these bikes are not four stokes therefor the riding style is different
Not trying to dog your life but someone who cant tell the difference between a 125 and 250 should not be telling people 1. That bike is fast because its not. At all. 2. Most people who ride 250's should be on a 125. 250s have much more bottom end than any 125 which would be much more practical in trails not down dirt roads all day. 3. 450s are easier to "go fast" maybe true in a straight line but not true anywhere else. Trails or track its hard to control and the tire rips right out from under you. However i can agree with learning how to clutch it and staying on the pipe can be benificial in the long run. Ive had 125's,250's(4 stroke and 2 strokes), and 450's. The best bike hands down by far is the 250 2 stroke if you have any experience on a dirt bike you can ride it well and soon master it. That bike probably is a great fit for you though. Top speed around 60, not much power, and fun to ride in a straight line. Occasionally go to the track and hit the tabletop and try all day to clear it. With your buddy recording on the far side until you finally make it then post a youtube video labeled "SENDING IT ON THE 125"
the best bike i ownd was a 125 i have a 250 2 stroke and a 450 atm just sold the 125 and the 125 smokes them both stop saying its not fast u cant even use the power of the 125
Marsh 13 in 2002 they didnt come with titles(they werent required till 2005) So no....you literally had to apply for a title, or get one from the dealer special.
@@asmrdirtbikes1032 you do not have to do that. Back in 97 they did not come with anything except a proof of purchase. If someone can keepa. Paper neat and remember where it is 22 years straight then I would applaud them.
Ooh, ok! Well we all learn from our mistakes, good you know it now, i might just check your other videos too, keep up the good work. You just got one subscriber more. ;)
+umar dawe Just get into the practice of either being on the pipe or on the brake. Engine braking puts stress on the gear box, which is a lot more expensive to replace then a set of brake pads. The clutch is your best friend.
What choice did you go with? I have never had a bike before so looking to buy one. I want to ride it on a track but also on road so thats where i’m hearing get a 250 but still not sure.
Your absolutely right it's not all about power. I ride at Milestone Mx in Southern California 1-2 times a week. I have seen plenty of guys on 125 cc ripping it up on the vet track and main track. A 125 will make you a better rider. It will make you pay attention, not get lazy ,and predict better to keep the bike in the power band
I had that exact bike . Loved it put some Michelin tires on it and it was night and day. Went to a 4 stroke after but enjoyed the 2 stroke alot. They easy af to do top ends on too.. enjoy
Hey man ... whatever bike make's ya STIFF !!! If you're having fun on it , thats all that matters . The 80's and 125's are known for being high RPM rippers , its surprising how fast they go .
Congrats on the 125. I'm glad it worked out. I had a CR125 and I could smoke all my buddies on their 450 and I wasn't worn out at the end of the day. Be careful on Craigslist... I've come across some serious cuckoo la la people.
I have an 86 RM 125. figured when I bought it would be the size of an 80 cc. nah I rolled up this thing was a lot bigger than I thought. size of a 250 and just as fast. boy when that power band kicks in you better be hanging on!!! plus the oversized sprocket and tiny sprocket up front makes for a torquey ride. wouldnt trade it for any 4 stroke out there. I love my RM 125
Had a 04 yz250, one of the best bikes I've ever owned. When most 2t's are ready to blow it just keeps ticking. The easiest way to tell a 125 apart from a 250 is an easy cylinder inspection, it will say 125cm or 250cm on the base of the cylinder. Good luck on the new bike and make sure to follow the service manual to a T.
I've had plenty of 125s and the YZ is the most popular. It's not the fastest but it's very forgiving and, of course, ridiculously fun to ride and easy to work on. I currently have a 2017 YZ250X with a SmartCarb and Scotts stabilizer and it's STUPID amounts of fun to ride. I plan on keeping her until the frame disintegrates.
@red coyote I think 250s are best bang for buck, You can pick up a used one for the same price as a 125, they deliver more power, and depending how you ride it, trails..etc, they don't have to be rebuilt as frequent, and if the power is too much, you can smooth it out close to a 4 stroke with a heavy flywheel
Hey when your rolling along with out using the accelerator make sure you pull in the clutch because the motors not getting oil without the fuel going into the kotor
I bought the YZ250 over the ridiculously tall YZ125, not for power. My seat is 940mm whereas the 125 is 970mm and I’m 5’9. Love the 250 power, crazy quick bike. Good video dude 👍
I had the 2006 Ricky Carmichael RM 250 loved the bike ! Then I rode the exact same bike you have ! a 2002 YZ 125 and I felt more confident riding that bike and it also felt faster... Maybe the 6th gear gave me that impression but I felt like the trees where passing me faster than on my 250 ! And it was so lightweight ! I got the 250 cause it was in pieces with a blown top end. Only paid $800 for it !
