It's AtGames. What did you expect. They've literally never put out even one solid video game product. They have completely ruined every retro project they have been involved in. I don't understand why companies keep commissioning them for this type of product. I am completely dumbfounded.
@@timbo303official9 Haha, well despite how bad they were, you could at least have fun challenging yourself to a few of LJN's NES titles. So they offered *something* worthwhile. That is difficult to say about anything AtGames puts out.
LJN's T&C Thrilla's Surfari was a pretty decent NES game. I wonder why ATgames didn't use the Genesis version of Pac-Man and Pac-Mania instead of the NES ones?
@@justindavid3617 What the old 8 bit games not stand up to modern games ! You got just what you paid for a cheap old game and if you played the original in the day on the old hardware on a old tube TV you would be damn happy with it.
I for one welcome throwing AtGames under the bus. They can't even get Genesis emulation right and at that level of burn I never want to buy another of their products again.
Whoa, this is some repetitive early commenting. You gotta calm down, we ask for a normal comment section, not for Vsauce Puppet to be top comment every video.
Well that's a shame. I legitimately want to throw money at the right companies for these multi-game dongles and mini-consoles. Unfortunately, I can have a way better experience with a $10 Pi Zero W, a $20-30 Bluetooth controller, an SD card, and some old fashioned "I already bought these games once" self-justification. For some IRL noob who never had to rig up a drill to rewind a cassette tape before trekking to the local Blockbuster, that format-shifting justification doesn't really exist. Your options are basically to don an eyepatch and a local pigeon to play games you might love, get a weak experience on an official option that only has a small pittance of the good oldies running unfaithfully, or just skip out on some serious gems entirely. That said, this is a rant that has been stewing for a while, and I honestly never felt much for Pac-Man and the like outside of a bar.
Just going and looking at the stuff Bill Loguidice posts on Atariage about this and seeing him endlessly shill for the new model despite how scummy and sketchy it was to not inform people of a production change before it hit the stores, along with how John got a better unit than anyone else (it would be another story if arcade pictures were not on the box and THE SYSTEM'S OWN UI, which makes it false advertising as is) just makes this whole story a sad trainwreck.
What I don't get though, is what benefit would they get from switching emulators from decent one in the early reviews to the horrible one? Is it just a cost cutting method?
Well if all the other games were the Arcade version and they had to switch to nes versions its a completely different emulator all together.. They probably had to trow a old emulator they had lying around on this thing and didnt care to optimise it what so ever after they got it running..
From what I *hearing* it's a forked version of Nestopia. What is killing the performance is the 10 second rewind and the underclocking. The rewind is taxing the RAM space buy holding all those frames in memory. And if the unit runs at full speed it gets hot and puts more of a drain on older TV's USB socket. Again what I'm *hearing* is that AtGames was worried about blowing up televisions. Remember the Genesis Flashback was in it's owns case so it had better heat dissipation. Genesis Flashback required it's own separate power supply so no worries about destroying a TV via the USB power. My guess is you could short one of the pins and put it into a debug/normal mode and see the unit perform as it should. *Please let a hardware hacker investigate and experiment with this before you blow up your $2000 TV.*
Why would anyone take AtGames seriously anymore? Their products are either cheap quality or quality they should not be selling at such prices. Sega knew their efforts was wasted and that's why they jumped ship. Sure, the Sega upgrade may be more expensive but I think it'd be worth it if everything works great. AtGames harmed SEGA and I am glad to see they're no longer invested in them.
Infernape They sell these like they're a deal to people who don't know what they're buying. Almost like those bootleg and mockbuster dvds you see in dollar stores.
Bought 2 for $10. There are at least 4 versions with different games. Bought the Activision Pitfall version with 20 games and the Bandai Pacman version with 8 games.
Switch's online service is actually GREAT. People need to stop fucking lying about that for the sake of an unfunny meme joke. It's not funny. You get tons of free NES games and it plays online just like it says. There's literally NOTHING wrong with it.
@@the-NightStar There is something horribly wrong with Switch Online. And Xbox Live. And PS+. The simple fact that paying for online functionality IS FUCKING RIDICULOUS AND SHOULD NOT BE SUPPORTED in any fucking case.
Silim The reason people pay for Xbox and psn is because they have dedicated servers. The whole point of paying is dedicated servers. NINTENDO DOESNT EVEN USE DEDICATED SERVERS WHEN WE ARE PAYING FOR IT. THE ORIGINAL DREAMCAST HAD DEDICATED SERVERS
I got this for a birthday present a couple years ago and I did notice the screen tearing then. But now, it doesn't work at all. The light for the controller turns on, but the HDMI dongle does absolutely nothing. Bummer.☹
I remember playing NES emulators back in the late 90's on single core Pentium 1 machines with 12 to 16 megs of ram at fullspeed. I think I used Nesticle at the time. Heck I think I was even playing Genesis and SNES games with perfect sound and speed on the same machine.
I don't understand why they have a Genesis controller for a product like this. When it comes to classic arcade games from Namco, you really don't need six buttons to play. A D-Pad (or analog stick, depending on how you play) and maybe two buttons, at most.
And shot in the dark: You have a start, a rewind, and a slow down, a power switch, a d-pad, an A button, a B button, and 2 turbo A Buttons being C and X, and 2 turbo B Buttons being Y and Z.
Problem with john Hancock is he gets the units for free so he never gives them the proper treatment they deserve if he did they would not keep sending him units
Everyone needs to calm down. We all know this a crappy product for US, but its not for us. This is for the grandma in target or walmart that thinks it would be neat to get for little Johnny at xmas. At Games knows this. That's their target audience.
He did film a "do not buy this" video after he found out. But generally I agree, John seems like the sweetest guy on the planet but he typically never seems to criticize anything so you can't really go on what he thinks about a given game or system.
I'm 45, I just bought the Activision 20 games Blast! and I love it - I paid about $25 US for it, and I could not be happier. Do not for the life of me understand any negativity about these products. It's less clunky than carrying around an Atari 2600 and 20+ cartridges, it has a better TV video display than the original with those wonky coax to antenna adaptors etc......sure you can get boxes and emulate to your heart's content, but not everyone is familiar with all that technology and a lot of people find this very nostalgic and fun without making it complicated. I find the controller to be great - the original Atari 2600 joysticks were nothing to write home about anyway.
Just to clarify some information, not ALL the ones shipped out have the NES Roms. AT Games said later shipments have the Arcade versions instead so it's basically hit or miss whether you'll get the good experience John Hancock did or not :P
that's the least of their problems right now. the fact that the Walmart exclusive is an inferior version with NES games that run terribly in comparison to the regular version that has the actual arcade ports will have them deal with legal shit right now. heck, Spawn Wave can also sue them since he apparently bought that one lol
Just purchased one for five bucks, and I'm having difficulty even getting it to run. Thought it could run through the HDMI on my laptop, it did not. Attempted to connect to my TV with the included USB and a generic phone brick walladapter, and it wasn't connecting at all. Do I absolutely need a 5V wall adapter?
Just so you and everyone else knows: despite your opinion of the company and their products, they didn't exactly lie or "false advertise" the system. The Walmart version has the NES roms and the other version has the arcade roms.
Anyone else notice he was playing Pac-Man pretty bad? He was immediately going for the balls instead of spacing them out and getting the little balls in-between.
Apparently it’s not just the Walmart version, it’s all of them. The ones sent out as review models have the Arcade games and unless you are a reviewer for AtGames, then you’ll just get the NES rom version from any retailer. These plug and play games have been around since the late 90’s as I remember. The only thing that’s changed is they’re using HDMI now instead of Composite. The question is.. are they going to sell more of these now that youtubers have shed the negative light on the device? It’s an easy way to make your money back through ad revenue plus some if you’re a popular channel buy simply making a video on it.
JonhHancock should remove his video as he is reviewing an item that differs from the retail version misleading people. Basically promoting false advertising!
This is why the PC took off in the 80's. If that thing had a micro SD slot and DOS they would sell millions of those. An Android app should be able to connect to it. What a waste of hardware. 9 out of 10 stars for the hardware, 0 out of 10 stars for the software.
Genesis 6 button controller molding, NES games on the inside. AtGames, they weren't good at digital accuracy, now they're proving they're crap at physical accuracy.
The ONLY thing AtGames does right are their Atari Flashback line. (and their past Colecovision and Intellivision Flashbacks) In other words, JUST PRE-NES GAMES; anything more advanced is out of their league. Lol
There are two model numbers, if you were meaning to be helpful you would have disclosed to us WHICH ONE you have. Here are the numbers: WD3305 and WD3305S Which one did you have? Which one did John have?
Hi! Love your videos and content, so please take this with love. This has been bothering me for a bit and it is making it hard for me to enjoy your videos. When your volume spikes into your mic there is a metalic ZIZZ sounds that comes with it. if your volumes are high in the entire video it sounds like nails on a chalkboard in the background. This is the only channel I experience this on and I'm sure it is just a settings tweak, but I wanted to make you aware of it, since, from the lack of correction, I feel you may not notice. I have tried making you the SOFTEST volume on RU-vid, turned my own volume nearly to a whisper and I still hear it. I have tried playing your video through my stereo system in my living room and it is still there. I have played you on my cellphone and it is still there. I have used my high end Hi-Fi DAC headphones and it is still there. I love your content, but it is really hard to make it through a video. I hope you are able to identify the cause and fix this. Thank you :)
WTF is this,.. its a complete scam... they have arcade pictures on the box but its all nes games inside lol.. and you get a sega megadrive clone controller with 6 buttons lol
