I have to admit back then felt the 2600 version of Pac-man wasn't that bad because I felt the machine had limitations and that were I was a kid. after the horror story I heard a few year ago in some documentary on Atari about how they rush the game in order to release the game in time for Christmas. ET and Pac-Man were Atari's black eyes
Kismet Arcade, I just wanted to point out that you've got the best profile pic I've seen in a while. Essentially, your photo is everything I hope to see at every flea-market and yard sale that I come across. Priceless . . .
Those $80 trash heaps? They have a lot of balls charging that much for shoddy emulation and half the library full of shovelware. They're reaping what they sowed.
Funny thing is that if anyone remembers those Genesis firecore systems were originally sold by retro-bit which is supposed to be segas (new?) partner! Just look up Genesis firecore on Google and you will see images of a retro-bit box with a Atgames Genesis on it if you ask me I believe Retro-bit and Atgames are the same company!
@@RyGuy0520 I have a few Sega Saturn and Genesis controllers from retro bit. They're a carbon copy of the original Sega made ones. Not those weird trash ones that come with the Atgames consoles.
John, I think you need to honestly distance yourself completely from them. Madlittlepixel, who broke the story on this, mentioned in a follow up video that he received a screenshot of a conversation that someone else had with Atgames and they said they were NOT releasing the version with arcades roms on it AT ALL. I think they have been yanking your chain. This is not a company that we as consumers should be supporting.
I doubt AtGames's story about hardware issues. All of their current products are using the same Monkey King 3B ARM processor running a modified version of Android with either Stella, Genesis Plus GX, and/or MAME for emulation. I don't want to assume the worst, but it sounds like they gave you a better version of the product to review and cheaped out on manufacturing afterwards.
Well MAME wasn't commercially licensed for the Arcade Legends Flashback, nor any of the arcade-based Blast sticks (instead, AtGames followed the OSS license terms MAME falls under), and the Atari Flashback 9 (which is using Stella) is actually really good, and luckily didn't have this bait-n-switch BS. The 2018 revision of the Sega Genesis Flashback isn't released until next month, so eke-eke and Charles MacDonald could still revoke AtGames from using Genesis Plus GX before then if they believe that the company will attempt this same tactic again. However, before any further subterfuge happens to or from AtGames: I think they need to pull all affected Blast consoles, make a public apology (possibly offer refunds to those who bought the Blasts), and refocus their manufacturing efforts. Even so, I think people should stop buying Flashback Blasts from them. They already look like they were designed in a hurry, and there are clearly better plug-n-plays on the market.
@@DurradonXylles Sound is really terrible on the NES roms here too. It's like they used an NES-on-a-chip like the mini-portable arcade cabinets. Hence not only the NES roms, but the subpar emulation.
They must have used a very old version of Genesis Plus GX, because I'm using the GP GX core in Retroarch on my SNES Mini and the Sound/video etc. quality is very solid, certainly far far better than the cheapo Genesis plug-ins.
ATgames is selling BROKEN games and are ripping people off with their products. Yet, I see them in every department store. It's really sad. So many unsuspecting people are gonna pick these up
Such a shame after you gave it a decent review too. Its pretty crappy for them to do this without any warning. And they are acting like they did nothing wrong in all their responses to the public. This is just another reason that no one likes their crap products.
Same thing happened with the NEO GEO X Gold where they sent out a different hardware product for review then changed ALL of the plastic moulds etc for production.
@Lassi Kinnunen If it was a licensing issue, then I guess that's understandable. But this doesn't make this system any less of a scam. They never told anybody about the NES Roms at the start, they're using the same box art as the unavalible Arcade versions, they're acting like children on Twitter (like blocking people for "harassment"), and they kept on lying to customers.
That sucks that they basically took advantage of you like that, John. The sad thing is, the people who mainly support ATGames products are parents and grandparents who shop at Walmart who are semi casual gamers or buying them for grandchildren. Hopefully us gamers speaking out and avoiding the product will get them to never do this again, so those semi casual gamers and grandparents, who buy their future products, will not get scammed.
Honestly semi casual gamers would probably never notice. Frankly why would anyone who claims to be a real gamer/collector buy this in the first place? Seems like this company is only in it for a quick cash grab.
Sadly, these grandparents and the children they're buying them for generally don't have an eye for decent quality emulation, and when coupled with the low cost of these things, they'll remain profitable, and ATGames will continue manufacturing them to take advantage of the ignorant larger market.
Thank you for posting this follow up, John. Like many others I was duped by ATGames and bought this recently. I have returned it for a Full Refund and now my Local Wal-Mart no Longer Carries the Blast Line!
The only thing they will do is tell you: "look at the product model # before you buy". Then again, what model is the Arcade version, what model is the Console version??? I managed to find out that the Arcade version is model(s) WD3305/WD3305S and the Console version is model WD3306.
Thanks for doing this. I figured you would once you saw the other reviews that came out. They knew they had hardware issues but choose not to address it and let the public know. That is crappy for a business to do that to consumers.
Did they update it? Because my box doesn't have the disclaimer on the box about the images not matching the games. So I guess I need to plug mine in and see if I got an arcade version or NES rom version.
Honestly, you have as much right if not more than those who will buy this at retail and get screwed, because you were used. I think we all know that this wasn't a mistake at all and they sent the arcade rom unit to you knowing full well that wasn't the version that was going to ship. This is an awful company that puts out awful products, is involved with shady business practices and argues with, lies to and/or blocks anyone who calls them on their bait and switch... or speaks the truth about their plain old crap products. There is absolutely no reason to purchase any of Agames products. Even if they weren't absolute crap, their 'customer service' and sketch business practices are enough to stay away. Thanks for making this video.
Lassi Kinnunen would have been more accurate if they said on the website home versions of arcade classics or something similar. Not just “arcade favorites” that makes me think I’d be getting the genuine arcade ports of the games. Not to mention it looks like the pictures on the box actually show screen shots from the arcade versions as well.
Nice shirt! Saw your complete NES collection over the weekend that was beautiful. Also saw my friends Ghost Buster's repro in there as well that was awesome!
You seem to be one of the most laid-back & chilled youtube game reviewers ever and it really took AT.Games special effort to piss you off ... that should really be a good indicator what regular Joe Gamers feel about (sh)ATgames
now this one should be an updated alternate warning if it's not using the arcade mame emulator which it is using that god damn family computer Nintendo entertainment system console emulator instead.
I'm glad to hear you weighing in on this one, John. I would've hated to see any damage to the credibility of a super guy and super-collector such as yourself over ATgames' shoddy practices (not that I think anyone would've, mind you, just unacceptable on their part). As an aside, that shelf looks soooo weird with all your games off of it. Hope you had fun showcasing the collection at PRGE! Keep doin what you do, man!
WOW! Thank you for update. I actually wanted to purchase this unit because of the Xevious arcade version, but now I'm steering clear of this product. PS - I always enjoy your video and your honesty.
RadRacer 88 rare and limited prototypes are always worth something. Obscure toys especially prototypes if limited in production can be worth it over time
Greg Prowse I disagree some stuff AT games has made is dope. ColecoVision and they have went up like the dollar general exclusive. Atari flashback 8 was dope.
I have alot respect for you man I can't believe they go as far to do this to you and to everyone I never liked atgames to begin with, they really took this situation too far and that's not okay!
hi john, thanks for this second video, and putting right the mess ATgames got you in!. thumbs up from me. i get the feeling ATgames are not to be trusted, because i have it on good knowledge that they never plan to release the ARCADE rom versions of these devices!! Thanks once again from me in the U.K
Good on you for the follow up video. I almost bought this crap because of your first video. Then I noticed other RU-vid videos had the nes roms. Terrible company, unforgivable, deceptive, untrustworthy business practices. I wonder if they are just doing a hail mary to sell as much product they can before they lose licensing on the games and file for bankruptcy. If that's the case, then the fallout from their lies won't matter. 🤔
OMG I just realized, you remind me of Ralph from Wreck-It Ralph :D Anyway, keep up the good work John, good to see good and honest RU-vidrs like you on here. At Games should really apologize to you and to other gamers.
Seen you many times on MetalJesusRocks but this video and your willing-ness to keep your integrity by doing this follow up video and warning people has now made me sub I look forward to more in the future oh and good luck it seems ATGames is Blacklisting anyone who dares speak the truth about the review copies.
Pretty crappy what they did. Glad you updated us with what is going on. And how this isnt worth getting. Glad you did an update. I wonder how many other channels might miss this
Bait and switch might fly in China but not in the USA and for some reason AtGames was missing at PRGE this year. They had an empty shell booth that everyone walked by.
I heard the Walmart exclusive has NES roms with an extra game but the other version (released/sold elsewhere) comes with the arcade roms...for some reason....but not the extra game even though they look the same. Is that not the case?
My god John you prove once again that watching your videos saves you money. I wanted one of these, but no more. Please please please can I up stakes from the UK and come and live with you in video game land? I won't be any trouble and I will polish all your carts!!
Thanks for this! I was considering getting a bunch of these as stocking stuffers for the holidays, but NOT anymore! That's just horrible, and AtGames needs to be shamed for this. Needless to say, I'll be boycotting their products and will be spreading the word to my friends and family to do the same.
Why did atgames pull a fast one? Their excuse wasn't even reasonable, as the only issue was slightly compressed sound on the review model! Thank you for the great follow up.
I can’t believe they’re allowed to put the arcade screenshots on the box and get away with it with a small print disclaimer. Definitely not buying any Atgames products. Thanks for the review John!
I have never been fond of ATGames to begin with, what with their Genny systems and all, but nevertheless I was actually going to buy the Pong Blast thanks to your review of that unit, since it looked like they were finally turning a corner, it would've been the first product of theirs I would've bought and TBH, you just gotta play games like Warlords & Breakout on a paddle, but I wasn't going to take a chance on original 2600 paddles because of how old & brittle the plastic inside are getting on those(one store I frequent doesn't sell them with their 2600 bundles anymore because of this problem - too many returns). Well thank goodness I was going to wait until Black Friday in the event they were cheaper then, because of course I've since caught wind of ATGames deception, and as a result I just as quickly changed my mind and instead have bought a new old stock Jakks Pacific 2-player paddle plug-n-play on eBay instead. Yes it may only be composite video and not have Stunt Cycle, but at least they're built better & my dollars aren't going to another Chinese-American joint venture that doesn't care about quality nor their customers! 😡 Plus it saves me about $7 in the long run, and I get the arcade versions of Pong & Warlords to boot. 😉 (The joystick 2600 games I'll be playing on a Mist FPGA with Competition Pro joysticks btw.) Thanks for coming around to the truth, John. Happy gaming.
John thank you for this video. I knew it wasn't you. At games are done I will never buy a product from them again. I was going to buy the Pacman blast thing that you showed in your first video but after I watched madlittlepixels video I was in shock. I said to myself wait a minute john had arcade ROMs on it how come this one does not.
Damn it sucks that you are involved in this mess. It makes you look sketchy for the people who dont know/follow you. They owe you an apology to be honest. It's great that you made a follow up video. Hopefully this doesnt happen to you or anyone else again.
Same thing happened with dream gear micro arcade. I purchase karate champ, bad dudes and burger time only to find out that they were NES ROMs. Art work showed arcade screen shots and its in a mini arcade cabinet to boot. I felt so ripped off. 😡
The 260 in 1 golden game (of all things!) that came out on the nes in the mid 90s got all of those games, and looked just the same (better?) And that was 30$ back in the day,and very common!
