First off I'm not brand loyal.. I actually went from a 2019 ram 2500 cummins bighorn to a 2019 ford f350 srw power stroke to a 2021 gmc Denali 2500 with the 10sp transmission and wow it pulls like a beast! I'm impressed tbh. However all 3 brand s are awsome. Just my opinion!
This is a completely bullshit subjective review. I've had 2 new gen Ram's, a 2020 1500 w/5.7 hemi and a 2022 2500 w/6.7 Cummins I have a new loaded Laramie 3500 with the HO Cummins on order and I'm not waffling. Love me some Ram. But I just drove a '22 Silverado High Country Duramax/Allison and even though it's down over 150 lb ft of torque it puts the power to the pavement MUCH better than the Ram. Dude, your reviews show your Ram Fanboy bias. Waste of time.
@@OmahaWayne , relax dude. No need to push your hate around here. I don't even own ram or dodge vehicles. Just because you don't like truth, it doesn't mean everyone has to confirm to your way of crooked thinking.
@@repairvehicle niether do I, dont own a chevy either. Do you just copy paste the same tired hotshot post in every video? Like its even true, or even that it matters or counts as anything more then your opinion?
I took delivery of a 2021 Ram bighorn 2500 In May. I have almost 7000kms on it and love it. It’s super comfy for a HD truck and drives like a dream. Just got back for a trip north with the family. On the way home my kid was sound asleep for around an hour until we stopped for food.
Dang! I'm confused. I watched your video on the 2500 Chevy/Ram comparison in which you were all for the Chevy. In your 3500 comparison it's all about the Ram. You contradicted yourself on way too many things between the 2 videos! Come on man😳
Definitely biased, you are comparing trucks that don’t have the same options, you are supposed to compare the same cabs and if they are base models or high trim models you didn’t even go over options the GM offers more than Ram
To be honest out of the the videos I have seen with your RU-vid channel I really do not like this one or care for it just because you work at a ram dealership and I feel you are being one sided to sell more ram trucks. I just feel this is more of a sells pitch more then any thing. 👎👎
Ram has always kept the same look, Chevy is still trying to discover there self's. I just bought a 2020 Ram 3500 dually and love it. always drove chevy, and fords..
JB. I enjoy your videos, but I don't think this video has aged well. Many of your assessments are based on hypothetical arguments; like the Aisin tranny being better than the GM tranny, or that a truck engine owner only cares about torque. When in fact the GM tranny has shown to be an excellent tranny, while the Aisin has shown to be a problem, particularly when driving unladen. And that's where your also wrong about torque; horsepower is important when daily driving, as well as having more cylinders. An 8 cylinder engine will power up faster without the turbo, and this issue is exaggerated with the HO; lower head pressure and higher boost on the HO over the SO Cumins. The delta between the torque of the HO and Duramax will only show up when the trucks are 90-100% loaded; just watch the video of the TFL Truck guys testing the Duramax vs the Cumins with that Australian Travel Trailer; both ran the same time up the Ike Gauntlet. Lastly, inline six cylinders are NOT naturally more balanced, this is a complete misunderstanding of engine design.
Honestly, this seems very biased. There are pros and cons of all three brands. most people who are buying under 3500 are not towing all the time, if at all and if they are towing you’re not maxing out. Majority of the flaws mentioned in this video are more personal then functional. Personally are you going to go heavy loads 100% of the time or damn near The ram is the winner But if you tow well under your max Gm or Ford. I say this because Street six has always had more torque for the pulling advantage, while be eights have always had more horsepower for the speed advantage. At the end of the day what are you gonna be using a vehicle for. my bet its a daily driver, Little to no weight or city slicker who thinks owning a truck makes them country
I just got my first Cummins after driving a 7.3 power stroke and a ecodiesel for some time I decided it was time to upgrade to a 2021 limited longhorn and I love it. Very beautiful truck.
Honestly the big bump in the legs of the passenger seat for the transmission on the Ram was a deal killer for me. I wanted the truck for long range family trips and the wife vetoed that seat haha. The Silverado doesn’t seem to have this issue and the floor is flat where the passenger seat is. I also like the larger cabin on the Silverado without the odd looking mega cab of the Ram. The comfort of the independent front suspension, seamlessly transitions of the 10 speed, comfortable passenger seat, and larger back seat won me over for the Silverado.
Aisin trans has been proven to run 4-500k without issues. Many confuse the 68rfe with the aisin which was designed for medium duty applications. There are horry stories from new 10speed owners not making it past 60k and requiring a new build.
Have a Ram 2500 Cummins currently, but have also had the newer GMC 2500 model (2018). While I love my Ram, I loved my GMC more. I feel Ram gives the better interior overall, but I love the feel and overall positioning of the GMC better while driving especially. I like the exhaust brakes of both trucks equally. Interior room on the crew cabs was identical, but this newer 2020+ crew cab is a game changer for me. Like the mega cab but I can get a truck with a slightly longer bed and rear seat room comparable to the mega cab if I went back to GM? Sold!!Am going back to a GMC once prices stabilize.
Ok as far as I can tell you obviously like the ram and you want to do a comparison against the Chevy and make it look like the Ram is better. I've owned both the Chevy out performs the Ram to a point that they can't be compared to each other. The Chevy is in a total different category it toes better by far. Next time do your homework first this review sucks it's totally one sided towards the Ram. You even mentioned the Chevy has more room but you still say the Ram is better. Ram is the true LOOSER!!
Chevy lt and ltz looks wierd except for the minight edition. Interior does not compare to ram but i could live with it. Trans and engines in both are good. The real winner to me is in 3/4 ton payloads. Ex brake is way better on ram. When its time i think ill flip a coin and go with it. The gm does ride better than ram or ford and with my bad back that goes a good ways. Air lift kit always helps balance the weight characteristics too. Great review and info. Watch all of your vids since the beginning!
I am a Toyota Tundra guy....but they don't make an HD model. I'm seriously considering a RAM 2500 or 3500 based on your awesome reviews. I used to think I didn't want a modern diesel due to all the emissions equipment but I'm re thinking that fear now.
Thanks bro, the 3500 has the Aisin trans which is owned by Toyota so you have a little connection there lol! I’m personally a land cruiser fan and hope to get another in the future 👍🏾
It depends on if and what your towing the 3500 ho is grate for towing but rides a little rough for a daily driver I know guys out there’s that are ok with that but I’ve had two spinal surgeries and don’t tow to much so I went with the 2500 Cummins the rear suspension is coil springs and rids smoother. The trans is working grate for me and is more reliable than it used to be plus lots of trains guys prefer to work on it. and upgrading is very doable. In other words it’s not the problematic trains like it used to be. And I’m planning on having the truck upgraded to 500 hp maybe a little less and the tunes out there especially with banks power seem to work with the transmission to give more line pressure so theres less slipping, but if it does burn up I’m already prepared to have the transmission rebuilt to handle the power. anyway versus the Asian transmissions as far as I know they can’t be worked on They have to ship back to the factory and are very hard program,if your in to tuning.
More torque but fewer gear ratios, so it's not going to be in an optimal ratio (torque multiplication) as much of the time. At the rear wheels, the torque difference is a nothingburger. I say this as a RAM owner - I realized how ridiculous your opinions were when you said you liked the ram tow mirrors. Of course you need power adjustment of the convex mirrors on the ram. When they flip, they're in the wrong place. "I really like having two exhaust brake settings." Man, I'd take one good one over two bad ones with a confused transmission. Why are you counting leaf springs? Do you realize the width and thickness also matters?
We can still be friends…… You make some good points but you were letting your Ram colors show through a little 😂. I can’t really argue over design because that is purely subjective (I mean some people think the Fords are pretty 😝) but some of your criticisms are a little bit of a stretch. The cab being maybe the main one, although performance would be a close second. Most Rams are regular crew cabs and they are noticeably smaller out back. And the mega cab doesn’t have flip up rear seats which is kind of a big deal for some people. The performance is pretty noticeably different too, empty or not but that don’t even really matter to me because they are not race cars. The bed size is another pretty big advantage that Chevy has also. The standard bed is 6” longer than the Ram and you can’t get an 8’ bed with a mega cab. I do like the Rams though. They are pretty trucks and if I was changing brands I’d go with one.
Haha, don’t jump on the “JB is bias wagon” lol!!! The MegaCab is a lot more comfortable and has more storage and even though the seats don’t flip up, you can fold them completely to the floor or allow them to stay up to not crush the storage below the seat. 6” of bed is nice but them moving the prep package behind the axle is a better advantage to me. I did two videos that day, one for the RAM the next one was for the Chevy 👍🏾
Well it’s ok to let your personal preferences show. My opinion is the mega cab will be unnecessary once Ram goes to the 1500 cab. Then it won’t matter which Ram you buy because they all will have huge back seats and they should be able to offer an 8’ bed option that way too. I know you didn’t really go too in depth on how that Chevy was optioned in this particular video but me knowing how the packages are and such it was a really rare optioned truck. It’s pretty tough to find an LT 2500 that don’t have the Convenience package. That’s a pretty big deal for the LT trim.
Yea unfortunately they didn’t have any LTZ or HC in stock and they didn’t have any other RAM SRW 🤷♂️ but really wanted to get this video done since it was on my list for about 3 months 👍🏾
Yeah I thought the inventory problems were getting slightly better but I’m not so sure now. The options didn’t really matter for this video. I was just meaning that particular Chevy was very strange optioned.
And it is all the keeping up with the Joneses. Like you said, you can identify the "better", "more expensive", "higher class" models. So, lets help drive the cost of a damn pickup trucks not just to $100,000, but well over that now. And, many options that most people want, have to get the higher packages. Its like cable tv.....paying for a crap ton of stuff you could care less about, just to get the one thing you want. Ridiculous.
Ok. I still like the Silverado because of the 10 speed transmission, which would be an upgrade to the Ram if they ever woke up and smelled the coffee. LOL Check out this beast: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-aCet-Fz3EK8.html - Not likely to be available in the USA, but what a beautiful truck, even though it is a Ram 4500.
When I've towed my travel trailer with Tow Haul mode and the exhaust brake on, in various conditions with my 2021 2500 Silverado... it seems to behave more like you described the "auto" setting in the RAM... If I'm idling along, it won't necessarily engage... however it will engage more automatically in hill descents...etc. Coasting in city streets or on the highway, it doesn't seem to engage unless the truck knows I want to slow down... if I touch the breaks a little the exhaust brake seems to engage. I'll be hooking on to the trailer tomorrow on a 2 hour route... I'll try and make note of just how/when it engages. EDIT: This fellow here describes the Duramax's exhaust brake. He says it is automatic, determines load depending on tow mode, weight resistance and braking... how he describes it is very much like my experience towing with this truck. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-csru5arshZM.html
That's how I would describe the GMs as well; engine braking not as aggressive (especially at lower vehicle speeds) as the RAM, but on long descents (common in my state), I actually prefer the duramax to the Ram. The duramax can engine-brake up to 4800 rpm, which I think gives the engine braking a little more flexibility since the computer doesn't have to be as 'cautious' about downshifting and potentially exceeding the Ram's 3400 rpm max engine speed. Still, I do really like the Ram's low-speed engine braking aggressiveness.
My opinion the bed in the Chevy is better it is longer, has better tie downs and short bed has more turning radius with the 5 the wheel or gooseneck. The 5 wheel hitch in the ram are just so far apart taking so much more room than the Chevy or the ford. But I bought a 3500 ram swr. Thanks for the videos really enjoy the channel
Ram has the better motor but their quality is low. Plus they rust out within 10 years. I would go with a Ford 1 ton. The only thing ford makes that is quality are their trucks. GM has too many call back for their product. Great review.
Good truck, fair review, I agree 6 is simpler to maintain then any 8, i have an 2500-2019 Cummins that I use for family and towing some German muscles, extremely happy with the Cummins. good reviews JB
Wait, you said the crew cab space/leg room on the GM 2500 is better than the RAM 2500 mega-cab because you have to pay extra for it. Now with the 3500 you think the Mega Cab is better and don’t mention pricing for ANYTHING? Feels like you’re flip-flopping here bro. Big fan of your videos, please keep them coming :)
For some people, who are paying $80k for a RAM, what's another $4000. Now if Someone is strongly shopping the RAM against the GM, that $4k for a bigger cab could be a deal breaker. I would never buy a MegaCab in a 3/4 ton RAM anyways because the truck becomes too heavy and reduces the payload too much. At least with the 3500 Diesel MegaCab you get an additional 500 lbs of GVWR to offset the extra weight
@@JB_WhoWork that makes sense, thank you for explaining the payload part of it. I’ve been frustrated with GM’s build & price tool online because it doesn’t show me an exact payload number for the features I might like on a truck. I didn’t consider the payload for the MegaCab. I’m also surprised they only increased the GVWR by 500 from the 2500 to the 3500. Your info is always very informative, I really appreciate it
Enjoy watching your videos but you have a lot of wrong information about the Chevy. Should of used a high country for comparison as it has alot more options especially if your going to compare it to a 90k ram. Interested to see future video with the f350s.
The Cummins diesel engine is made by Catepiller which is at the top of equipment !! Catepiller has been around a very long time and is the most used in the industry . Since Caterpillar stands at the top of dependable equipment and the test of time to equipment and heavy equipment , it only makes sense that with Caterpillar makes Cummins engines that they are the best !!! With almost 50 years as a mechanic and operator , I own a Cummins diesel !!!
You are Ram biased and that’s ok because I’m GM biased lol. Does the Ram limit torque in 1st gear? I know the GM’s don’t. I enjoy your videos but you Ram guys running around with your tow mirrors out pulling your ghost trailers get mocked by every other non Ram truck guys and gals 😂
One thing I was wondering about was the front suspension, and I'm glad you covered it. I thought the independent suspension might be better than the solid front axle. Great review, very informative. Thanks!
A solid axle has its merit but is NOT the end all and be all especially if we're talking about a primarily street driven tow vehicle, its subjective at best. Unless your rock crawling you don't need solid axles for wheel articulation. We in the US Marine Corp have transitioned all of our light, medium, and heavy tactical vehicles to IFS/IRS and it's a god send for ruggedness and off road dependability as compared to our sister service who have far more issues with rollovers due to them being heavily sprung with higher center of gravity on their solid axle vehicles.
@@rlhmarines reckon it is a matter of opinion as you stated,I’m on the other side, but completely understand your opinion and they are good points! Thank you for your service I greatly appreciate it! I’m a truck driver in my personal opinion I think solid axles are needed on a heavy duty truck at least in regards to civilian life/business even on paved roads. I could not tell you how many chevys I see going down the road with big horse trailers or hotshot, and they hit bumps and you can see them flexing outwards “appearing” to almost bottom out. I do not think they personally hold up as well in this regard or at least able to handle the weight as well or as long as a solid axle. Definitely would not hold up over the million plus miles these trucks are driven. Add all the pot holes ect on the roads and i personally do not think they hold upz
when another bad driver totals my truck all this info will be helpful. It was parked but the drivers here give me doubt that I'll get 385,000K on my '21.
Humm well I've owned ALSO all brands including Nissan Titan ProX 4 heavy half! Personal each do and will have their own issues MOSTLY at how people actually drive them! But Cummins diesel engine is the only true diesel engine, drive train in Dodge's have ONLY once left me to be towed in! Also overall depending on rear end gear ratios it depends on if you are a daily truck commuter verses someone that ACTUALLY is do real towing! Real towing 4:10 rocks and pull out pull anything behind a Cummins diesel engine! Even 3:92 gear ratio in my NISSIAN Titan pulled up real grades than the normal stock economy gear ratio 3:73! Yes less fuel mileage! But not crawling up real mountain grades at 25-30 MPH! Have to kick off cruise control with 4:10 gear ratios so not to run everything else over while pulling heavy loads! Another plus is Cummins parts are available in any tiny country town verse Duramax or Ford's new Diesel! As a professional truck driver Cummins diesel engines are the most reliable and dependable engines by far! Hell Catipillar had to even walk away far smaller diesel engines and only can produce heavy heavy equipment ENGINES that last, not speaking about cost to repair any diesel engine or just get normal maintenance done Cummins are the overall least cost for normal maintenance or major repairs! End of this total debate! Just bought a new 2021 Dodge Larime dually for my needs with 4:10 rear end gear ratio knowing miles per gallon would be less than 3:73! 4×4! It will last me the rest of my life and I'll leave to to one of my children that does pull CAMPER TRAILER and toys! Because I know it will go forever last forever because I ALSO do all manufacturer scheduled services and recommended fluids! Don't by something and not be responsible owners or cheap owner's! That's on all vehicles PERIOD
So let's talk long bed ,diesel , ride and stability must be much smoother than these city trucks, I'll park out in left field any day for the increased Xtra capacity and ride of wheelbase length
In a diesel yes,in a gasoline engine,GM hands down, the Hemi engines are not as durable or long lasting as the GM /LS based engines. The Ram has a nicer interior but it’s an older truck and design, with a smaller cab and windshield, the entire truck is dated next to the GM.
I am one of those weird people that prefer knobs over a screen. Other than that, the only thing I can say ram is better in is the interior design. From my experience they both tow the same. I do like the bedside foot step from GM tho. I use my bed so much that it’s crazy convenient
@@JB_WhoWork awesome. My favorite config for the ram is the Laramie with the 8.4in screen. Mega cab 4x4. Such a good package. Didn’t like the 12in when I test drove it
What? Don't like laptop on a dash😅. Thing is fn' huge. Our Subaru 8 inch screen is almost 2 grand to replace if breaks. Wonder how much that ram "big screen" would be to fix in a...oh work truck..hmm. both trucks look awesome though
Even tho I'm not a truck person and am a muscle car person, I watch vids like these just to learn more about the logistics that goes into these muscle towing trucks. And i do learn a good amount of info about what to and to not look when getting trucks
Chevy duramax has major design flaw. Crankshaft breaking due harmonic balancer being attached with one bolt while everyone else is using at least 4 bolts.
It's not the 'one bolt' that causes crank failures. It's hotrodding the shit out it and expecting stock components NOT to fail. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-iBoyW2e0ra0.html
I’m not sure I would want to believe anything you have to say since you stated that the 10 speed HD truck transmissions from Ford and Chevy were designed together. They are completely different and not designed together. The 1500 models were though. This is common knowledge. Another armchair mechanic.
@@clulessable, if you are not armchair mechanic, I want to see proof that these transmission are not co designed with Ford? I will be waiting for website link, please no forums where kids voice their opinions.
You already know I would get a Ram next time around JB. But I don’t need anything more than a Big Horn with about 4 or 5 options. Great review JB. Even though I have the 2 overload springs I still installed airbags on my GMC.
@@JB_WhoWork LMBO! I would love to see the Allison transmission hookup with that Cummins. I would have to do a ton of fast talk with the wife to make that purchase. Now would be the best time for me. My truck is worth almost 54K and only owe a little over 38K. With that I could get that dually in Demonico red that I love. 😃👍🏻
I agree the Cummins is a better motor but not the transmission. i don’t see no one swapping the Allison’s out for an aisin but I sure do see a lot people getting there aisin replace with an Allison. There must be a reason for that right.
Actually, HP helps to KEEP the load moving, after the TORQUE gets it moving. It is NOT just for racing. You may want to Google torque vs HP or look at many of the excellent Engineering Explained videos that cover this subject.
I see your video about the trucks which are nice. But the very few that are available the dealers that have them are gouging the customers. Hence why I'll be waiting till next year. You should also not compare a top end dodge to a low end chevy. You should compare equal trucks.
Sound like that someone did their homework and if I every get another 3500 I would consider going in that direction but of course I'm a ram guy I had now 6 rams.
👋 just wondering if u took in consideration your video from a year ago about things u hated about your truck, has anything changed or did Ram fix all issues?
Wonder how many more comments there would be if he wasnt deleting so many calling him out on his OBVIOS FANBOI Bias. Dodge/fiat best transmissions ever.. said nobody with a clue EVER
I hope so too! I don’t know why people are so sensitive about cars 🙄… I guarantee some of the manufactures watch these videos and make changes so it’s never a negative thing when we point out flaws 👍🏾
Depends on a lot of different scenarios, but they literally are neck/neck in terms of capability and available options. You can’t go wrong with any of the 3 HD’s 👍🏾
I’ve noticed from watching a lot of hot shot channels. Those guys are running either a Ford F-350 or a ram 3500. You do see the occasional guy running a Chevy/gmc 3500 but they quickly switch to a ram or Ford. I think part of it is the location of the def tank. I know the Ford is inside the diesel tank. And the Chevy is external and looks weird under the passenger side.
If Ford put the DEF tank inside the fuel tank then that is yet just one more stupid design by Ford which they are notorious for. DEF will instantly destroy both the high pressure fuel pump and injectors should there be a leak of DEF into the fuel. Ford, the not so "brighter idea company".
Wow just Wow you are so much of a RAM lover it’s not even funny. You choose a lesser trim level on the Chevy so that RAM would win. And one of the best options on a Chevy is the camera system best in the game right now and you could have touched on that but no you can’t BECAUSE you CHOOSE a lower trim Chevy. And then you have the audacity to say that the RAM tow mirrors are better when we all know they aren’t. I want to know how much RAM is paying you . They’re just no excuse to tilt a video that much. And before you say I don’t know what I’m talking about I drove a RAM for many years and and liked it now I drive a Chevy and like it better but that’s not to say I won’t get a Ford in three years or so and love that one to.
Not sure what Chevy designers were thinking in the remake of the front exterior, but I agree, RAM evolution far nicer looking! In terms of the guts of the HD trucks, please also do this compare for 2500’s. For me, I’ll never do 5’ers, but am looking for a larger bumper pull and will likely be moving from half to 3/4 ton in next year or 2. Thanks for comparison!!
Meaning after Ford's F350 in first place? Any personal info to share, I am in the market for a 1 ton or 2021 2500HD DURAMAX since the payload is the only decent one in the 3/4 ton line up with a diesel engine.
Would be great to see this comparison with Ram and ford as well. I’m a Ford guy myself, b it when it comes to trucks it’s Ford and Ram Chevy is just kind of their.
@@JB_WhoWork they are both great trucks, love the Cummins I’m a trucker and that’s what we run. Great motors we run them a million plus. Sold my f250 because of the market next time I buy is going to be tuff! Great review brother loved the video
My wife and I, test drove the F450 and a California 100K Laramie 3500. The 2021 Laramie had the max tow package with air bags and 4.10 rear end. It rode like a Benz compared to the F450. Although, the F450 felt faster and stronger.
@@JB_WhoWork I have a 2022 3500 Megacab on order. It's too bad I had to order now, because after owning my 1500 limited for 3 years I would absolutely go for a 5th gen CC long bed if it was as spacious as the 1500 and had the flat floor, even if just to get the 50 gallon tank without losing interior comfort from my 1500. If for 2023 they come out with a 10 speed, 5th gen, with a better suspension setup, I'm going to be kicking myself and cursing my timing.
The best qualities about Ram are the parts Ram doesn’t make, the engine and transmission. You have to respect that Ford is the only one to build the entire truck in house. Ford truck, Ford transmission and Ford engine. And the 6.7 Powerstroke has worked it’s way to being second to Cummins for durability.
People say that the only thing good about ram is the powertrain but I’ve owned 2 and have had no electrical problems are any type of issue that led me to believe RAM trucks are not built well
@@repairvehicle no their are go to powerstroke talk. Had a gentleman in with 1.4 million miles original engine transmission, transfer case. Unfortunately it is a 2011 and had gone three 4 turbos. Go on the forums plenty with 800,000+ on them.
Khaki Swag, I drive a 2017 F550 6.7 Powerstroke for work. 85,000 miles and is currently at dealership waiting on new 6.7 Powerstroke replacement due to a burnt up cylinder. I bought a Ram because I have had a lot of problems from this Ford. I could have gotten a turd but all 3 of the F550's at my work location have been turds.
Wait, you said RAM has the better transmission? Its funny since history tells us transmissions have been RAMs achilles heal. Words I never thought I'd hear.
@@JB_WhoWork I'm sure. My experiences with others are anecdotal. Although there is the saying for the perfect truck, Engine of a RAM, transmission of a Chevy and the body of a Ford.
JB I am curious what the payload on the Ram would be with 18 inch tires and the air suspension. With a LB do you think the 18’s are more stable and have more payload?
I just ordered a 2022, 3500 HO SRW, Big Horn, 18" wheels,, with air bags. Obviously haven't seen it yet (3 mos out), but my paperwork says 3,800 lbs. I did get sunroof though which may have dropped it a little.
