Like every other country on Earth. With a hitch on the car you have. You don't need 4wd to get a boat up a ramp. A normal size sedan can still pull legally around 4400lbs They can take a lot more but that's what can be done legally at least here in Europe

Thank you! This is exactly right. My father has almost a dozen cars from the late 60s and 70s. It is amazing how smooth they are and you can stretch out and not have your knees wedged against the front seats. The trunks are huge and the cornering lamps are great. His '69 Chrysler Imperials even have auto dimming headlights. My favorite seats are the '78 New Yorkers leather seats. You just melt into them. Almost forgot, the power steering and power brakes are fantastic. Dad said that when his father bought his '68 Chrysler, the salesman demonstrated the power brakes by putting a light bulb on the brake pedal and quickly stopping the car without breaking it.

I'm 24 and I'm the old Cadillac ride kind of guy, I had an 01 Seville STS and that was perfect for me on road trips, and after driving the 2018 XTS, I think it's the proper replacement for the Seville, the only thing it lacks is a fuel efficient V8 like what the Seville had, but with modern reliability of course, I truly believe the XTS is as close to modern american land yacht as we get today, even though it's been fazes out already. Bring back the comfort, luxury isn't technology, its plush suspension and seats accompanied by wood and metal trim. The magnetic ride on the XTS does a fair job at a smooth and then sporty ride the harder you drive it and then back to smooth, and the cornering isn't wollowy and combersum. But the XTS-V is the power it deserves but missing 2 cylinders.

Hoovie I'm 34 and I couldn't agree more! I love the American land yacht and always have. The last car I really enjoyed owning was my 2005 Buick Park Avenue. I prefer large sedans but since that segment is pretty much officially dead and hasn't had a decent contender in almost a decade I have driven crossovers or SUVs since 2012. I currently have a GMC Yukon which I do like a lot but it just doesn't have the charm or romance for me the Park Avenue had. It does come closer than my Enclaves did, but if I could buy a modern interpretation of a 70's Lincoln Continental, Cadillac Fleetwood, or Buick Electra with modern improvements but kept the distinguished styling I would be on board no questions asked. The problem is Detroit forgot how to make a traditional big car around the turn of the Century and they just kept getting worse and worse to the point I am not even sad to see cars like the Buick Lacrosse, Lincoln Continental, or Cadillac XTS die. The styling is horrible, they are basically the size of a Ford Taurus or Chevy Impala from 2000, and they just aren't luxurious. The fact that Ford and GM are basically giving up on sedans of all sizes pretty much seals the fate of ever having a true American luxury sedan again, but it is fun to dream. I wish more 30 somethings thought like you and me.

The answer you are looking for, at least here in germany, was definitely the VW Phaeton... until that got discontinued as well. Also, it's not just a thing americans want! Many germans would probably like a big and most importantly a comfortable sedan, too.
@wishandwatch
@wishandwatch 5 лет назад
i'm from germany and i would definitely prefer a big station wagon with a practical design and a huge trunk. it also needs to be very comfortable. these days most station wagons are something between a sedan and what a station wagon once used to be. not a fan at all :( i fucking hate "coupé" rooflines on station wagons or suvs (not to mention that suvs are generally pretty useless...)

The Phaeton is one of a kind IMO. Absolutely stunning car for very little money. Sure you have to put a little love to it and you gotta expect some electrical issues but nonetheless the Phaeton offers a lot. Considering you can get them from 3000€ up, I'm sure it can be a nice project or even a starters car.

@peterpan2633 5 лет назад
missingremote Suburbans literally suck. Really, don’t get one, they’re gigantic on the outside and have no space on the inside. Coming from Germany we have a VW T6, which is about a meter or 3.3 feet in your units shorter, comfortably seats 6-7 people and still has lots of room for luggage. We had to drive Suburbans in the US and they are a nightmare to drive, use tons of fuel and don’t even accelerate well. All in all pretty comfortable in the front and middle seats but really not worth it. Get a VW Multivan if you need a big car. Or a “proper” SUV (not a fan of SUVs)

You know the weird thing about comfort vs. sport? Manufacturers can't seem to figure out where the hell to use them. Take, for example, the humble Honda HR-V, and other CUVs like it - they're meant to be affordable, entry-level vehicles that are practical and versatile for small family needs, and most are, but they all collectively have harsh, jarring rides, they are very poorly composed over rough, uneven surfaces, they do not disperse shocks and bumps well, and the seats are often flat, hard, rigid, and thin. The Ford, Honda, Toyota, Chevy/Buick, etc are all guilty. Like tell me, why on earth would an HR-V need a stiffer suspension than a Mini Cooper S or a Ford Mustang GT? It's not like the HR-V can corner on those eco banana peels for tires! My parents bought one after I went off to college, to downsize the "family car," and although it does the basics well, it's one of the worst riding vehicles I've ever driven/been in, and the competition in the segment wasn't much different. Luckily they have other vehicles, as do I, but it's the most efficient and practical vehicle we own overall, so it's usually what we use for trips and whatnot.
@AbzAden
@AbzAden 5 лет назад
Darren Persad well in order for HR-V to be affordable they had to cut cost...and the suspensions is where they decided to cut corners if they did offer a better riding suspension it would be in a different price point
@DarrenPersad
@DarrenPersad 5 лет назад
Perhaps, but if that were the case, truly, then you’d imagine a very vague, wallowing ride. It would cost them more for such a stiff ride, independent suspension, and the beefy shocks. Like the components aren’t that bad, but it’s like their intention was to give it a “sporty” semi-planted ride. Body roll is fairly minimal, but it’s just unpleasant when you give something hard eco tires and pair it with a stiff suspension. It’s boggling. Older budget vehicles had absolutely vague rides. They were soft - now many couldn’t take a corner, and the HR-V can hold its own against similarly priced sedans and hatches, but comfort is key in family vehicles.

@johnstewart6366
@johnstewart6366 5 лет назад
You ALMOST got it. The correct "parable" is - 2 feet of FLOWING water will cause a car/vehicle to float. If you go through 2 ft. or more of water at any speed, it may splash into the fuel "system", and, since water is neither combustible, nor capable of being compressed, you will no longer be driving - you are now REALLY inside a land yacht !!

Ive only ridden in a Rolls Royce once and it was a 1949 Chauffeur kind deal. They are really special cars and I agree that Cadillac and Lincoln should take your advice. My Grandfather gave us his 1960 Caddy when he passed away in 1965. Dad then traded it in on a 1965 Fleetwood which was fantastic for our long road trips from NY to Lexington, KY. My brother and sister and I had lots of room in that back seat. Your new House is looking great. Good luck with all of it.

As a past owner of a 1977 Ltd Landau and a current owner of a 1977 Thunderbird, I agree wholeheartedly on the land yacht idea. It truly is awesome to drive the automotive equivalent of your living room sofa down the highway. All they need are cruise control, a decent stereo, and far more cupholders than they ever came with. Hell, both of my land yachts had 5,000lb tow ratings, so add a hitch, and you can take decent size trailer with you.

A few years ago I bought a 91 Crown Victoria LTD with 56k original grandpa miles on it. He bought it new it had every option. It was such an incredible car to drive, just the way it floated and you could turn it with your pinky. Maybe the experience was highlighted, I've always driven full-size 4x4 trucks and SUVs, but that had to be one of the most comfortable cars ever built. It developed a problem with the fuel injection system I could not figure out and was making it undriveable so sold it. Regret that so much, miss it even more.
