You forgot #1 is actually safety. I just walked away from my 9-3 v.s full size GMC SUV doing 50 MPH in front end offset collision. When life and limb is on the line you truly appreciate the SAAB. It was also always reliable, comfortable and fuel efficient on top of quick, stylish and unique. This model is a unicorn in the car world.

My 2009 Aero xwd is the same car.....280HP 295ft lbs.....5 spoke vs 3 Spoke. Jet black, but not metallic, circular styled exhaust...and lighter color silver exterior trim. can easily be had for 8-12 depending on mileage and to some are preferred for the slightly less “tuned” look. I love the turbo X but it wasn’t available in 2009 so an Aero was it for me, had the car since day one and always started up and got me where I need to go. The problem is with these cars, even the saab mechanics aren’t too familiar with the V6s due to not many examples out there. Sticker on mine was 48,xxx back in 09 and it was worth every penny. XWD (Haldex Gen4) still hasn’t been beat by anything out there. Adaptive Headlamps work perfectly and were a rarity for the time. Correct me if wrong but the “LED” strips above the headlamps were a first for Saab and I believe the first manufacturer to feature that. The 2.8 all aluminum V6 won best engine. So coupled together you have The Best Engine, Best AwD, Saab 9-3 Looks (which everyone has always conplemented on in turbox or aero trim), 5 Star safety. Unmatched mid and top range for the class (155mph reached here). 0-60 in 5.7 seems about right....but as saab always said, “some measure performance by the time it takes to travel a certain distance in a straight line....Saab Doesn’t.” The 1/4 can be had in 14. This car outperformed a Porsche in the Slalom. Nice to see another Saab Enthusiast appreciate this fine example of Scandinavian automobile execution. No car manufacturer will feature Performance, AWD, Safety, Looks, Quality and reliability quite like these cars...and heck if I take it easy, I average between 35-40 MPG on the highway too. By the way you forgot to feature the one truly unique feature of the Turbo X! Instead of the “Check Ok” message doesn’t yours say “Ready for Take Off.”? Take care of her!

Thanks Brother. Safe SAABing! I’ll try to get some photos and videos out there soon. Great video and here’s a another great story...XWD is hands down the best AWD system out there. One day, was snowed in at college in about 18-20 inches in a flash snowstorm. The only vehicles out of about 50 cars to be able to get out of the parking lot were the lifted jeeps, pickup trucks and my Saab. The WRX next to me couldn’t get two feet forward and we had to do the rock and shovel technique to help him. The looks on everyone’s faces when it was a line of 4wds and a sleeper SAAB trucking in the arctic was priceless. We exited the lot and the surface changed from snow to ice and upon making a right turn, Wouldn’t you know, the pickups fish tailed a jeep crashed into an xterra but Steady Saabing and XWD made it feel like I was driving on fresh rain and passed the suv mess. Got everyone started....what’s a saab? Didn’t they make fighter jets? Where I’m from in NY, not too many Saabs. Theres another AERO X and a Turbo X in town. Lots of compliments and gas station chats. Hoping some NEVS keep the spirit alive and we get examples in the states soon. Everyone who drives my car likes it, truly a balance of practicality, performance, safety and Style. Agreed that the looks of this beaut have aged wonderfully! The front fascia has been copied by many. GM forcing saab to remain under Cadillac and use hard plastic in the interior does hurt...but best use of carbon fiber I’ve seen in a car for sure....the black and parchment seats has been and still has is copied by manufacturers! GM wanted SAABs ingenuity and Turbo tech...GM in term provided a dealer network but would never SAAB truly have their way. Lots of stories about how trollhattan would be told to build cars “x-way” and saab would do the opposite. The TURBO X and later the Aero X is the car That GM never wanted to be built, but they did it anyway, then what did they do years later? A turbo sports sedan by Buick and Caddy....smh

My first car was an 04 9-3 little t that I got when I was 16. I absolutely loved that car and it made me fall in love with European turbocharged executive cars. I drove the 9-3 for about 3 years with no issues other than one dead battery over the course of driving it besides some minor electrical issues. When it was getting around 220k miles I decided it was time to let it go and I had 10000 to spend on a car, I ended up getting a space grey 2011 335i e90 with the n55 motor. I love my Bmw so much but I lust to have another Saab in my life once more. I’m always looking for good deals on newer Aeros since they are so dang cheap at least where I am around Nashville and the turbo x is such a rarity. I love your car mate and your channel! Keep it up, really good content!

My 06 9-3 had a knackered driver seat. The leather has seen better days, but one thing I gotta say...it's still super cozy and still holds me in well with that nice bolstering. The bang for the buck? Yeah, it's there. My 2.8 cost me about 3 grand, and it's been a great car. Style? Saab made some super gorgeous cars. Hands down.

Tip for the noisy trunk springs :) Pull the side panel off and take the spring off, dont forget to support the trunk or it will fall on your head. Then just put a piece of rubber tube on the end of the sping and install it back and you are done...no more noise.

I recently read a report by Swedish insurer Folksam. They rated the 9-3 (and 9-5) as being 20% better than average for safety. They also rated the Opel Vectra as having 40% below average safety. Saab engineers made a very safe car from a deeply sub-standard platform. Outstanding work. Next time some total idiot tells you that your 9-3 is ‘just an Opel/Vauxhall’, be sure to remind them what the difference is

I don't see such a big problem getting them in Europe, you just probably don't know where to look. In Sweden two are (were?) for sale recently. In Poland another 2. One just changed hands recently from Slovakia to Poland. Another one fully Hirsched was sold in Switzerland. Germany also had one SportCombi for sale. So they go for sale pretty regularly, changing hands from owners to enthusiasts and collectors lately. Of course prices are various, starting on 10k €, because here they are just more valueable than in the US. Especially cheap are in the UK (from 5500 pounds) but that is whole different story, market and steering wheel on the wrong side :D :D

So here's a question for you... Does the previous owner follow what you're doing with the TX? I'd be pretty psyched if my old car was being fawned over, but then again, I still have my old '92 900T Vert that I can fawn over myself. What made me feel good is when I took it to a new shop (Saab specific) for a look over, they recognized the car from when the previous owner brought it in, which must be near 20 years ago (and somewhere about 170k miles ago), and the only thing it really needed soon is a brake job... At this point, if I wanted to spend $10k, I gotta say, I'd opt for a couple-three C900 versions, but then I'd need more garage space!

What sort of fuel economy are you getting from your Turbo X? Before and after mods? Bit of interesting information the 2.8L engine is actually made in Australia, then shipped to Sweden. @AutoAutopsy
@AutoAutopsy 4 года назад
how are the transmissions terrible?
@jeredalmeida1880
@jeredalmeida1880 4 года назад
This might only apply to the older ones. The way they are constructed employs an extra linkage in the transaxle. Thus you have an extra set of moving parts to turn the whole gearbox before the primary drive. When they break, you have to lift the whole engine as the engine, transmission and chassis are all structurally supporting each other as one unit. The transmission acts as the oil pan. My explanation might not be the best so I apologize for any inaccuracy.
