The Saab 9-3 is an Incredible Used Car Bargain

For decades, Saab produced well-built, unique cars which attracted a loyal following. This all came to a sad and untimely end at the hands of General Motors, when they starved the brand of creativity and innovation for years, before axing the Swedish mainstay in 2010. Today, you can find a used Saab for under $5,000, and you might be surprised to learn about the value you get for your money. Enjoy!

This is great. My grandparents were loyal saab patrons and were devastated when they stopped production

Currently, summer 2024, you can buy a decent Saab 9-3 convertible in the UK for under $2000 (I do mean dollars not GBP). Ours is a 2007, 1.9 Tid 150, 110k miles. The hood and interior are like new. It has new alloy wheels and tyres, a new turbo, clutch, water pump and cam belt, and everything works as it should, with no leaks, including the hood hydraulics. We also have a 2010 9-3 Sportwagon, same engine but had 150k miles when we got it. Again, all good but in the five years of ownership I have had a clutch and flywheel done at my local Saab specialist for $800 all in. That one is now at 185k and produces slightly better performance than the 'vert, very, very good Fiat engines returning 45 mpg in the 'vert and 50 mpg in the wagon. Some people insist Saab was ruined by GM and point at EGR, DPF and other faults, however, if properly maintained these problems are either avoided or easy enough to fix. To replace the EGR is a 30 minute job, cleaning the DPF can restore performance where a car has not been used on the open road, etc. Most 9-3 in the UK are manual, six speed. There are automatics available of course and they are well suited to the petrol models, but I believe problematic in diesels. Italian engines need a good hard run every now and again, and that is also true of my 2011 Alfa Giulietta, which has the same Fiat 1.9 turbo diesel, goes 0 - 60 in around 8 seconds and returns 65 miles per gallon.

What an awesome video! Thank you, little brother😉🤪. I am a big Saab fan and I appreciate this homage to automotive uniqueness, man. It is slim pickings these days, kiddo-so to see something analog is a freakin' joy. JV Johnny ⚾⚾

Was waiting for this one! Great video. I'm surprised by the 2000-5000 range though. The minimum I see on Craigslist/FB is 4-5k, and those are for older ones with even more miles (NC/VA). Are you based in Jersey or just visiting, I ask cause the description mentions AZ.

yep. an 07 or newer 9-3 with low miles is hard to find.

nice vid, but you gave GM a bit too much credit imho ;), Saab still developed a lot of this car in Sweden. Lot of improvements on the chassis too, most importantly; all the early (pre 2012) 4cylinder turbo engines are pretty much Saab engines, block is GM, but Saab developed it on it's own, internals, motor management, turbo's, bits and bops. that engine is a class apart :) (and the 1.8t is a low pressure saab 2.0 engine(B207E), whilst the NA 1.8 is pretty much an Opel engine (Z18XE), in 2012 a 160hp and a 220hp 4cylinder (A20NFT) was offered, the V6's (LP9) and diesels (Z19D*) those are all general GM's). cheers for the vid!

One of the best Saab videos I have seen, you went through a lot of it's quirks and features. Thx for sharing this video. Also I am a 2008 9-3 SportCombi 2.0t BP owner :)

I've had a 2005 9-3t 2.0 for 12 years. Sad thing is it just threw it's timing. Has about 130k on it. Was a great car. Super fun to drive. But it's going to cost me more to rebuild it than it is worth. It's sitting on the side of my house. I don't know what I'm going to do with it.

Unfortunately, SAAB was strike out of marketing after the agreement 🤝 with GM. The branch SAAB is iconic and has a handling feature kind of car and safe. Come back SAAB.

I am interested in buying a Saab 9-3 as a second car, but what is the situation with part availability? Is Saab or anybody else still manufacturing Saab parts?
@NicholasCarter-hx3cu
@NicholasCarter-hx3cu 2 месяца назад
You can get many many aftermarket Saab parts and as far as computer parts like CIM , ISM and ECU thousands of people on eBay will fix it

What about rust on these? Any comments?
@americanchallenger
@americanchallenger 3 месяца назад
They're generally pretty good with rust. In an area with a lot of road salt they are still susceptible on the rocker panels and wheel arches.
