ohhh yeahhhh thank you for connecting the dots. They decapitated the grandma's corpse, then Charlie lost her head in the accident, and finally, Annie decapitated herself. Three heads from the same family.
Milly was impeccable, for sure, but Alex stole the show. He was incredible in every aspect, he made the film all that much more horrifying. His semblance of normalcy and his personality was beautifully crafted through the beginning and the pain he felt, the deterioration. Just. So good. Absolutely amazing. I’d love to see more of both of them, Hereditary was crazy. Great job y’all
D Fine he made me realise that what makes a film truly scary is seeing a character on screen that is terrified by it. Right at the end (no spoilers) I wasn’t scared at all because the people we see aren’t scared at all.
Yeah i thought the same. A lot of shots in the movie we didn't see through his first person view, we saw it happen TO HIM and I thought "wow, i wish more horror directors shot things like that" it somehow made it more terrifying to me.
I really hope Milly can be cast in more movies after this and doesn’t just become “the girl in Hereditary”. As brilliant as she was in the movie she deserves even more success now!!
Sarah Elizabeth, I would have to disagree on you with that, I personally thought Alex was the weakest part of the film acting wise. He was very good in some scenes especially the car scene and the last 20 minutes of the film, but every scene with him crying did nothing but break the immersion for me. When he cried I kept thinking as if he was mocking someone else crying and that was just the take they used, I just thought it was weird. Many people started laughing in my theater around the 3rd or 4th time he started crying and I can't really say I blame them. Especially compared to someone else in the film like Toni Collette? Alex doesn't even hold a candle in my opinion.
I am SOOOO rooting for Milly Shapiros future in film. I just feel like so many wonderful opportunitites are in store for this young lady. She was on broadway and now a stand out in her first film. What an adorable girl. Good luck Milly, you are amazing !!!!!
Milly Shapiro reminds me of Drew Barrymore who has acted in the horror genre. She has that same charisma and aura which will do wonders for her career!
sohfi hamid I was so disappointed there wasn’t more of her in the film. What an impressive presence and performance. I look forward to seeing many more performances in music and film by this talented little lady in the coming years.
If they sold memorabilia I would honestly buy it isnt that awful 😂 It was such a great movie and that was the defining thing that stuck in my head (no pun intended)
Kenshin Himura The reviews or reactions about this movie are lower than others and the theater I went to was rather empty for a new movie showing. It’s just my observation and sorry if it’s not. It’s still a fantastic movie that’s easily in my top 5 horror films list though
Going by the comments on youtube alone i feel its underated. I feel like everyone should be freakin out about it but quite a few thought it was boring or wasnt put together right
The second time watching is more forward and clear. There is no puzzle to figure out except some pieces you may not have noticed while initially putting it together. The film is pain from loss and of course having a satanic cult invade you family for a prophecy to be fulfilled. The second watch is satisfying and a lot less stressful. You can enjoy it for what it actually is.
Milly's a little sweetheart and smart as a whip! "Hereditary" was the best horror film I've seen in a good while; I was either getting chills or on the edge of my seat the entire time....
The part where Peter listens as his mother realizes... *spoilers* ... what happened to Charlie was jarring. You don't see anything, but the wait is painful. Hearing her footsteps, doors opening, car doors and then the front door again for it all to end up in tears breaks your psyche.
Agreed! You knew what was going to happen but all you could do was wait and hear her going about her business, not even knowing what was about to happen. Absolutely devastating..
They asked in this interview what is the sound that represents this movie, they said they -cluck- sound, but hearing the Mom's long completely destroyed scream sums it all up for me
this movie had one of the best and scariest endings of any horror movie i've seen in quite a while. as a horror hound myself i was impressed.. it's not often i get disturbed by a horror movie any more and actually feel that intense kind of scared feeling. it's been a long time in fact. (the last movie that did that was probably one of the classic j-horror movies like ju-on or kairo)
Many people don't like this in movies but I absolutely think it's amazing how curious and confused the movie leaves you. After it ends I watch a video on what the meaning is and I realize all of the small hints and details that I missed and how every little thing ties together 😳🔥
Which scene got you the most For me it was the ending starting with peter going in to the tree house Like at that scene I felt something different from what I felt with the rest of the movie.
Yeah the ending was so bizzare and scary and freaked me out, it was a totally different tone of horror from the rest of the movie. But also the scene where Charlie is walking towards the forest and you see the grandmother in a ring of fire for a split second.
@Calamansi Yo! Films How the hell are you, Calamansi Yo! Films? I had to troll that girl, for being stupid with her little lol comment. She called the police on me. It's a mess. But back on topic, I ate that goldfish.
How did this man go from jumanji to this masterpiece. I feel like his performance is overlooked when it comes to this film, but he was truly incredible.
Just watched this last night and when i got home i started seeing objects/figures in the dark and freaked me out a bit. Had to leave the hallway lights on cuz im the only one sleeping downstairs. This movie had some scenes that really do "traumatize" you. Even tho the ending was ehhh, i still liked it overall.
First of all, for her first movie Milly was an outstanding actress!! She really made Charlie’s character come to life!!!! Nobody else could pull of a role like that! 👏 Alex’s performance in the film really made the film terrifying!! His facial expressions were what really got to me. Alex was also amazing with scenes that were extremely painful!! So let’s just appreciate these two and their acting skills. I am super excited to hopefully see many future films from these two!!
Not her first movie she played in the hills have eyes….. she is always casting her as a weird ugly character I think it’s because of her looks ….. she never plays the role of a popular cute cheerleader that all the guys want in eye school
WARNING¡! there is sort of a spoiler The whole movie was really great and definitely really scary in my opinion the scariest movie I watched and I don't usually cry when I watch scary movies but in this one I did The part that really scared me and made me uncomfortable was when peter was running into the attic (idk if it was a attic) and the mom was chasing him and he was screaming and the mom got on the attic door and started banging her head really hard and fast and loudly on it. I don't know why this was so scary to me but at night we had went home and I was like okay this wasn't so scary and I was in my room and it was very dark and the only light in my room was the light from my phone and I heard banging from the neighbors and I was remembering how the mom was banging her head and I also heard people yelling and idk if I was just hearing things because I was paronoid but yeah so I was covering my ears bc I didn't wanna hear anything so my mom and in bc she heard me screaming so she said what's wrong? And I screamed so loud and I started crying. But hereditary is a really really good movie I loved it so much and I really recommend it! Everyone was a really good actor you can tell they were really into it and it's not like one of those movies that like they look homemade and boring and not scary. They did a awesome job on the movie
Hyanne Lee I agree!😂 I was just feeling scared that night I guess and since it was in the theaters the experience was really loud and felt like you were really there
This movie didn't scare me but it intrigued me the way they show grief is very realistic characters holding there thoughts all in the way toni collettes character Annie breaks down drastically as the movie goes on ward her way of wanting Charlie back by going as to do a seance similar to bargaining when going through grief the way the music is just sometimes a simple bass line can create such an atmosphere there's also no comfort in the movie at all which allows the movie to remain unsettling the way Peter has had no comfort at all and has to deal with Charlie's ghost and Annie's yelling is just insane Alex's acting was on point his crying like a child's cry was amazing because to think he went through all of that that's why he cried like that the way how he portrayed shock was incredible too
I'm just shocked that Alex Wolff was in this movie.................from The Naked Brothers Band...................and not only that, but his performance was absolutely stellar!
I hold The Exorcist as the most traumatizing film for ME ! As a kid I saw it with no background we went into a theater and saw it. It STILL freezes me at times. But Hereditary is the ONLY film that I have EVER said is in the same class. So I don’t say it lightly as nothing could come close to The Exorcist but this movie STAYS WITH YOU and goes deeper and deeper in your mind as time goes on thinking about what you had witnessed. A truly to the core terrifying film that stays with me still. Terrifying not because of any one scene, but it’s totality.
this film is truly a masterpiece. everything from the actors to the script to the direction is top notch. i really hope the academy considers this film for an award.
I was in 5th when me and my mom watched it.....I pissed my self the next night bc I was scared to use the bathroom and I thought I heard a little girl screaming so this movie fucked with my head. A LOT
*spoilers* ...sorta...kinda I would just like to know what was up with Peter’s eyes and the photos. I kept waiting for a scene to explain that or for something to happen to his eyes...
SPOILER - There was an alternate ending filmed where at the end where everyone is in the treehouse, Peter tears out his own eyes and rips out Jean's too. Apparently that ending was deemed too disturbing by test audiences so they took it out. I would have loved to have seen that, especially since like you said there are a lot of images alluding to that.
I don't know, honestly. I'm not familiar enough with Paimon to know what that would symbolize. Best we can hope for is that we'll get that scene on Blu-ray and maybe they'll explain it in a commentary track.
Julie Ogden apparently there was an additional hour or two worth of movie cut out. Cut because of time i would've liked to have seen it because i have more questions than answers
I think honestly they both did amazing. Alex had more scenes that required him to display terror but the crying scene when he asked his mom to stop when she was trying to communicate with the daughter was not 100% it for me. I think he did great for his age and all in all this is one of the very few horror movies that actually left a weird feeling in my stomach. The cinematogrophy was great along with the plot. Very disturbing for sure.
