It's located on the corner of 13th St and Hwy 385 by the Aaron's. There isn't one on Avenue K. That one is located in the alley between Ave. I and Ave. J just off of 15th St.
Nice video! Interesting I've never heard the pulsing siren before, by the looks of it, it seems you're nearby kings manor. I've never been in that part of town when the sirens are on. I'll have to check it out next time I'm back in town and they test them.
It does sound like the chevron refinery sirens in Richmond, CA doesn’t it? They creep me out when both of the Ava cyclone and the om 120 sirens sound together.
In a word, Yes. The entire system activates at one time. The SD-10's are about 70 yrs old. Installed in the 1950's. One was located on the old fire department {Long since torn down} and the other was located at about Union St. and Ave G. When the Cyclones were installed in 1981, they were relocated to the San Jose addition SW of town the the other at the end of S. Main street. Don't know if they still work but since they are (or were last time I was there) I'm assuming they still work. But they are old for sure. Dad was born and lived there till early '90's. He told me about this. The original Cyclone and SD-10 activation was done through phone wires but has since been upgraded to wireless. They also would sound in the attack mode during a tornado warning but now just do the alert. This was according to Jay Spain who was the Fire Chief for Hereford VFD during this time. Uncle was on the fire dept and knew this also.
I assume you mean because of the loudness of these? The windows probably rattle and people inside are wishing they moved to a different location! Ha ha!! I've been under one when it came on and believe me it's intense.
@@trulyisaiah I doubt it. Dad lived about a half a block from the one by the golf course when they were first installed in '81 and nothing happened. It's more the reverberation than the loudness.
Hereford tests the first Wednesday of the month at I think 10:00 AM March thru July. Amarillo tests the last Friday of the month year round at 11:30 AM, weather permitting in both places.
Ok I couldn't figure out how send you a personal message to ask this, but when will the next siren test in Amarillo be? I always get the days turned around... :(
Basically its at the very north end of Elm street. There is a cul-de-sac there and if memory serves me it's in the alley on the right side. Google maps hasn't updated that location so its not showing. Haven't been back to that location since we took this video.
We have pretty much recorded every make and model of siren in the area. It's like if you've seen one Thunderbolt or Cyclone or SD-10, you've seen them all. But we are still very much into them. And hopefully next year we can start putting on new vids. Thanks for asking!
If memory serves me right, it's the second Wednesday of the month from March through August at 10:00 AM. Can call the FD there to confirm is you want. I do know they don't test year round.
